Blindness [07 Oct 2008|12:04am]

Dudes, do NOT go see Blindness. I was pretty stoked about it - it looked interesting and i dig Julianne Moore. But it is bad and DISGUSTING. Sean and I walked out on it during the FUCKING GROUP RAPE SCENE. I had to throw up, i was so horrified. and not in an, "oh-that-was-so-intense-and-artistic" kind of guttural reaction, but in an oh-he's-threatening-to-blow-her-head-off-if-she-doesn't-suck-his-dick kind of way. it was revolting. i can't express this enough.

just disgusting. and it's wasn't even clever or new. I don't need a movie to tell me that people do despicable things. good grief. at least make something intelligent.

Sorry. i just can't get over it.

those days have all but gone, and still I'm listening in [06 Oct 2008|02:25pm]

yesterday I found the key to finally fixing my mood, which has been awful for several days.  I got out and into Baltimore on my own, and exploring and involving myself in things really made me feel happy.  I suppose that's something I picked up while abroad; it's nice because making acquantances with strangers reminds me that I'm an interesting and confident individual, and because seeing new things (especially from behind a camera's lens) makes me start seeing everything better because I look with more interest and motivation.  I'm really happy when the whole world seems pretty to me.  I'm also in love with Baltimore, even though it sometimes does scary things when I get myself and my friends lost there at night (oops).  I'm going to start kicking myself off campus by myself more often... maybe once a week, if I can, until it gets cold.

I got kind of manic on that trip and was pretty well insane last night... but it was an okay change from the few days before, when I really didn't like myself and felt crappy about the things I'm doing with my life.

I have some really dumb ideas right now that I'm not letting go, and no good will come of it in the end... but plenty will in the meantime.  so I guess stupidity is just my way of life from time to time.

oh, and I also dug up some peaceful thoughts at a poignant time )

now, I really do need to start searching for a new laptop and doing my homework.  I'm learning to associate the library with whole days of shitting around.

I have a mysterious rash on the inside of my left forearm. The Internet told me it was shingles. I never had chicken pox. I have poured calamine lotion on it.

The Rebs concert tonight went well, and tomorrow (today, Sunday) the jazz ensemble is playing for the dedication of Welsh Hall (the T, where I live). Ananse is also happening again at 8:00 if you missed it on Saturday night. People have been complaining about the props, but I don't know that there is anything I can do about it at this point.

I think Goucher should do something like this.

Baltimore has some really odd events.  I'm searching for campaign events  in the next week or two to photograph (any info or suggestions would be ridiculously, insanely appreciated), and I've come across relatively little.  But I have found:

the Baltimore Tall Club (for women 5'10" and over, and men 6'2" and over) - I wonder if they measure you at the door?
- the Baltimore Chapter of Drinking Liberally - for, you know, liberals who drink

to be continued, I guess.

First post in quite a while, I suppose. I guess you shouldn't be expecting too many from me these days, I just haven't been on the computer at all.

However, I just have to put it out there. With all this craziness with the national bailout and the upcoming election, which, in my eyes, could go either way, I'm shitting my pants in fear.

One month from today will be the most important day in any recent political history as it concerns me. And until then, nothing else really seems to matter all that much.

Sculpture is going better! Apparently the teachers I freaked out to about that class (Allison and Mary) actually went and talked to my professor about it, and she admitted that she'd been really hard on me, but that she admired my persistence in the class, and sees a lot of herself in me. It helped that she really seemed supportive of my project, and that I'm back on schedule with everything else. That piece may very well make it into a show that's going up on October 17 in Towson Commons, so stay tuned for updates on that.

Ananse props are also right on schedule. I promised our director, Elolo, that everything would be onstage, if not finished, by Thursday night. Everything is onstage, and only the umbrella really still needs work. Our TD, Mary, is going to attach the antelope's horns for me tomorrow, as well--she hung it up today, and aside from the pulley being a little wonky, everything is set. Hooray! That goes up this Saturday, October 4. Jazz Ensemble is also playing a short concert on Sunday the fifth, for the dedication of the T (Welsh Hall, now). I haven't had a chance to be at Jazz rehearsals because of Bunnicula, but I think I'll do okay.

David slept in the common room last night while his apartment was being flea-bombed. It's a good thing that Buddy is up in New York or we would've had to hide a dog in here, too--and a flea-ridden one, at that. When I dropped him off at home this morning, there was a ruby-throated hummingbird in his neighbor's yard! I was so delighted. I love hummingbirds. When do they migrate away for the winter? Do the birders on my list know anything about that?

my computer is most definitely still broken.  and I haven't done anything about it.

::shrug::  I don't really have the wheels or the drive (haha, punny) to do much for it right now, and it's not really on my list of priorities.

seriously, though, wouldn't it be freaking sweet to replace it with a steampunk computer?

here's a health to the company and one to my lass.
let us drink and be merry all out of one glass.
let us drink and be merry, all grief to refrain,
for we may or might never all meet here again.

I have all kinds of love for my loyal, quirky, darling pirate crew.  my (most likely) last group trip to the renaissance festival was quite definitely the best one yet.

Palin Meme [27 Sep 2008|09:54am]

daflipp
I post this not for political reasons, but because it's a damned funny exercise.

Sarah Palin married her high school boyfriend, Todd Palin, on August 29, 1988. The Palin family lives in Wasilla, about 45 miles (72 km) north of Anchorage. The Palins have two sons (Track, 19, and Trig, four months) and three daughters (Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7) [ages as of August 2008]. Todd Palin has said Track's name came from the interest Sarah's parents had in the sport and the fact that he was born in the sport's season; Bristol was named after Bristol Bay in Alaska, where Todd grew up and where he does commercial fishing; Willow was named after Willow, Alaska; Piper got her name because it is uncommon and "a cool name"; Trig's name is Norse for "strength".

1)Your first-born will be named after your parents favorite sport:
Football DeFillippi.

2)Your second-born will be named after a nearby area that you're not from but you like the sound of part of the name, and maybe you have nostalgic memories of said place:
Arlington DeFillippi.

3)Your third-born will be named after another nearby place, for no reason other than you already have two children and don't have time to put much thought into another name:
Roxbury DeFillippi.

4)Your fourth gets a "cool" name:
Chuck Norris DeFillippi.

5)Your fifth gets something mythological, possibly straight out of Lord of the Rings:
Rincewind DeFillippi.

(The original meme didn't have lastnames attached, but I find it considerably funnier this way!)
