| All Turns to Silver Glass |
[Mar. 16th, 2009|10:13 pm] |
Well, folks, we have had a good run with Operation Gathering. With your help and encouragement we were able to pay all guests who were owed following the Gathering of the Fellowship, 2006. We also reimbursed most of the other guest-related expenses. Before we finish our quest and sail into the West we will be having a fire sale to disburse all of our remaining raffle items.
We want to profusely thank EVERYONE who has made a contribution to Operation Gathering. Be it purchasing raffle items, donating items from your collection, or simply offering kind words of support you have kept us going these long years.
Here is how our fire sale will work: We will have a goal of selling as many raffle tickets as we can by April 15, 2009. On that date ALL items will go, regardless of how many raffle tickets they have on them. We still have some great items available. If you are a collector, now is the time. This last-ditch effort will be to pay off what is one of our most important guest-related expenses...one of our own who gave selflessly so everyone could enjoy a certain guest who shall remain unnamed. We are so close to our goal...Can you help?

| Operation Gathering Newsletter |
[Sep. 9th, 2008|06:47 am] |
Greetings from Middle Earth! It has been a while since our last update. Things are winding down for us at Operation Gathering. Over the past 2 years we have come together in the true spirit of Tolkien fans to do what was right. Thanks to your help and support we have nearly achieved our goal! We are now working on our final programming expense. Without this person's contribution the convention would have been missing a wonderful guest, and would possibly have not taken place at all. We truly appreciate your kind words, encouragement, donations, and raffle ticket purchases. We have come this far together and it has truly been a privilege. Please join us in our quest to make things right by taking a look at all the items we currently have up for raffle now. Many of these items are only 1 or 2 raffle tickets shy of being ready to go. We are very close...The end is near! In fellowship, Elda, Talasi, Heather, Zee |

I didn't have a clue until then though as I had completely forgotten about it disappearing from your luggage. Receiving it now was very unexpected and really made my day!! | The Gathering is a GO! |
[Jun. 14th, 2006|10:11 am] |
Dear Tolkien Fan,
Last week, we made it known that the Gathering event was in trouble; that pre-registrations were far below targets, and that we were considering cancelling it.
Since then, we have experienced a variety of reactions in a flood of emails, offering support and encouragement, some expressions of anxiety, and even some anger. Most people told us that while they were disappointed, they understood our situation and would learn to live with whatever the outcome. Others said that they would be coming to Toronto no matter what happened, to gather together in fellowship; so at the very least we have succeeded in our goal of bringing people together to discuss Tolkien. But the most heart-warming of all have been the donations! We have received a number of donations, some minor and some major. There is no expression of "thank you" that does justice to how we feel about these gifts. One thing is clear: there are no people like Tolkien fans. Your generosity has humbled us.
With these reactions in mind, and with the cooperation of our volunteers over the last week in cutting costs to the bone, we have decided to go ahead with the Gathering event. It will be more intimate than we first envisioned, a smaller group and less frills, but it will go ahead.
But we still need your help! We are by no means in the free and clear! We still need many more registrations to be able to cover our expenses. Every little bit helps, from donations of any amount, to convincing your friends to attend with you. Please purchase your registration before arriving in Toronto, as our biggest obstacle at the moment is cash-flow. We have recently made more Silmaril packages available, so you may freely purchase them or upgrade your existing package. With your help, this Gathering of the Fellowship convention can still be all that we want it to be!
Thank you in advance for your support.
In Fellowship,
Edward Rodrigues Anthony S. Burdge Jessica Burke And the rest of the Planning Committee |

| Bruce Hopkins site update |
[May. 10th, 2006|02:54 pm] |
There has been a note added to Bruce's site. For those of you going to The Gathering, they are showing 1Nite, Bruce's interesting and award winning Indie Film. While it was listed as a short, it is really an 80 minute feature and will show from 9:30PM until 11. So, no thinking, you're going to run in and out in about 15 minutes.
Word of note: I have seen this film - I own it - and it isn't 'child friendly'. It is very thought provoking and is an interesting set of character studies in set circumstances. While some would consider it dark, I enjoyed it tremendously. I'll make sure my son is occupied elsewhere during the showing. |

| New news at The Gathering |
[Apr. 3rd, 2006|02:51 pm] |
|
It has been announced that Bruce Hopkin's (Gamling) Award winning independent film - 1Nite - will be shown at the Gathering on Sunday evening. I own it - he signed it for me - and it is very interesting! |
