The Rules of the Onlinecomics Community
[info]seanthesean wrote:
i thought the community rules say strictly, "No furry comics."

No such rule exists. I suggest you have a read:
http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=onlinecomic

Now, let me get this straight:
You complain about the rules on LJ-Cut and say "but i don't just arbitrarily follow rules, especially on the internet."

And then you turn around and Make Up a non-existent arbitrary rule about Furry Comics, and then go back in the Onlinecomics Archives to find a my post from a Month and a Half ago to push that rule?

I've no clue. But out of the blue, it appears he's started going through the archives of the group, back over a month in time to pick fights with other cartoonists.

i understand the rule, i just chose not to follow it. ... i don't just arbitrarily follow rules, especially on the internet.

Maybe he should create his own comic community and that way he'll be able to overcome any arbitrary rules from being put into place.

Yeah, I agree with you - I mean, you can't even follow his logic. A rule about lj-cut is a courtesy for the readers of this community. A rule about banning specific types of comics...I don't get that (I'd really like to know what he believes the word 'arbitrary' means) - you'd first have to strictly define what it is (I mean, is Garfield a 'furry' comic - it has a talking cat...is Usagi Yojimbo a furry comic, I met Stan Sakai -I didn't get the impression he believes it is).

And in the end, his logic also goes against the whole point of the community - online comics. Why would you ban a segment of what you're trying to promote?

He indicated that he has some sort of problem with Anime and Furry comics. I can only assume that he's decided to make up his own rule to suit his own personal preferences and is trying to pressure people into following it.

Shoulda Woulda Coulda... get out of your hole boy, there is such a thing as furry comics. Deal with it or leave. And what do you care anyways, they're actually following the rule of using lj-cut so you can quite easily skip over them. But...you've already shown you can't deal with the reality of their existence so maybe you're a little too sensitive for even that. Probably a community out there for your meek tastes.

Actually...wait, before you go - define furry comics for me. I'd really like to know because you sure as hell don't know the definition of arbitrary. Show me where only having a grade school education can get you in life ;)

yes true, my mere grade school education really is holding me back. i think you were looking for some logic where logic wasn't the operating motive. by arbitrary i meant, "rules that don't serve me right now" that's straight up american values right there, so i'm sure you can understand that. as far as furry comics go, i find them to be incredibly disturbing, something about the incredibly unrefined, distorted sexuality in them and their largest support being on the internet is really wrong. that and it's impossible to do a google image search without furries coming up on the first page.

Damnit, why do people gotta be stirrin up crap with my community?! Not you. I know you're just reacting to his jerkness. Next time, though, email me or comment in my journal about what's going on and I'll put things right. I would have caught the large image today, but I would have missed the furry attacks.

You are correct, there IS NO RULE BANNING FURRIES! My best friend runs a fur chat site affiliated with furnation over at www.kingdomanimalia.net so to ban furry comics would prolly get me beaten up.

I have replied to him in his original post. Things should be better now. If not, well, I'll take the next step.

My apologies.

After I noticed he went after me where no one was likely to notice, I saw he'd gone after [info]hollyannvix too, and possibly a lot of other cartoonists too.

If it had just been me, I'd've probably blown it off. But I didn't want someone telling lots of people "You're not supposed to be here."

I realize that being a moderator is usually a thankless difficult job. I've done it myself and learned a lot of things I'd rather I hadn't learned.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is Thanks for keeping order on the playground! :)

You are correct, sir. I try and take care of everyone, but it is my community, and I won't harbor hatred. Now, if you make fun of furries in your comic and want to link to your comic, there's nothing wrong with that. Give a heads up that your comic tends to be of the blatant opinion type and don't post a large uncut image of a person in a rabbit suit with their leg torn off in a bear trap. You've got to cut that stuff with warnings!
I'm not trying to stop you from believing what you do. I'm not telling you you can't advertise. I love comics and websites that take jabs at everyone equally. Ever been to www.tshirthell.com ?
I just want there to be respect among members here, reguardless of interests.

Don't feel obligated to give equal weight to opinions that are divisive and counter-productive. You gotta draw a line in the sand at some point, and having a member going around harassing others for their comic preferences and on top of that act like they're above rules that all others follow...

Not my place but I'd say this was your fair warning to him.

Oh, THAT joke. That's the "I'm a troll, but it's okay because I'm only kidding" joke.

We've heard it before.

For someone trying to do something interesting and different with a comic, you really ought to reach for less stale humor in your posts. Or at least not try to excuse your trolling as a joke.

You've been caught out. A little humility, and perhaps an apology will go a lot further than continuing to dig at the bottom of the hole you're in.
