I will post a couple of things today...
The first being this taken directly from the Mailing list that I am a member of, with thanks to Liam Jarnecki.

"Mr Kennedy O'Connor and Mr Gambaccini have just pointed out ( On Radio 4's today programme)

a) Dima is a megastar with 3 MTV awards
b) He always gives good value- eg the piano girl, the Stradi, the Ice
skater etc
c) Andy couldn't even win X factor
d) Wogan chose Andy personally against a public vote and so had a
personal credibility thing going on
e) The cost of the UK's contribution if we pulled out would pay for
about 10 minutes of Dr Who
f) Maybe we should pull out of Wimbledon because we don't win that
either
g) It's all sour grapes

Well done lads-
Let them do the commentary maybe!

I think Wogan really set this all up. He misrepresented Dima to the
British viewers, didn't give the audience the right context or
background e.g. telling us what the bookies saw coming.

His phrase "Words gone out, it's Russia's turn this year" was
unnecessary, unsubstantiated and a clear suggestion that there is a
controllable block vote as opposed to the reality which which is
millions of people making their own minds up."

Wogan is diverting attention away from his mistake...
I may be cynical, but with Mr Bishop gone, his is vunerable...
Bring on Paddy, he's far more civialised and would turn the contest around.

what i always try to tell people is imagine Wales,England,Scotland had seperate entries ,we would constantly be voting for each other also despite supposed antagonisms between coutries each would have many expats and the singers would be well known in each country . Whenever a disinterested neutral here is asked about eurovision you tend to get one of 3 responses , 1] isnt it crap ,2] all the countries vote for their neighbours or 3] i just watch it for Wogans hilarious commentary . i normally attend the contest but couldnt this year so had to listen to him for three hours just saying 1] or 2] above . There is no doubt due to the nature of the voting that some countries get a 20-40 point starting bonus, how else could Armenia be top 10 in 3 years with unremarkable efforts but its effect is overstated . Russia had votes from some 38 of 42 countries and so deserved to win . it seems more of a problem to me that 6 of the top 8 were amongst the last 8 countries to perform ,from memory only Turkey have won from the first half of the draw since televoting began.

isnt it a case of "its my ball, and im going home" to say that we shouldnt enter a competition we aren't going to win.
if this is the case, then maybe we should give up alot of other events, such as world cup football, wimbledon, the davis cup.. and any other sport invented in this bloody country.

Wogan did not choose Andy personally against a public vote

Wogan chose Andy personally against the presumed judges' selection...
