Two things *spoilerish for Akainu's really obvious powers*
Cannonballs in One Piece: From what I can tell so far, the physics work similar to a artillery shell (lame analogy I know) but basically the danger of the cannonballs is that it's propelled out of a cannon and then explodes upon contact rather then the momentum of the cannoball itself. Although, given how it's been shown to explode upon contact (wood, ships, ground in Buster Call) I find it strange that it doesn't explode when it comes into contact with human flesh as Robin is able to net balls without it exploding, Sanji is able to kick the cannonball back etc etc. So out of all things, the protaganist human flesh are immune to not only the dangerous force but the incendiary power of the cannonaball as well? Also, it's strange that they've been able to create explosive cannonballs and yet there are no grapeshots. I'm pretty damn sure from experience that if the Marines were smart they would have realised by now 'hmm cannons don't seem to work on Luffy so why not cut with scrapnel'?

tl;dr: Exploding cannoballs. Effective on everything except the Straw Hat crew with their character shields.

What do you think of this fridge logic?

Also

Just as a bit of a challenge try creating a original combo attack involving two or all three Marine Admirals. If you need refreshment, Akainu has lava/magma (would it be lava since it's being launched out from his body and magma while it's not?), Kizaru is a Light Man and Aokiji ate the Ice Ice Fruit.

Basically, try to do in in this format Name:Description with participant's name. You don't have to provide the name of your created attack in Japanese or romaji but feel free to if you want to. Anyway here's what I've come up with so far

Admiral Sentai Combo: Akainu decides to rip off Pirate Docking from the Straw Hat deciding that 'the forces of justice can do it better'. Akainu has his legs carried by Aokiji forming the left leg with his bottom half in ice and Kizaru carrying his right turning his legs into light for speed. Akainu forms the body and turns his two arms into fists of lava. Hence with their powers combined they are...Taisho Zord?
*Fist Of Justice: Akainu punches the enemy with his two magma fist
*Roundhouse of Justice: Akainu kicks his left leg Aokiji into the enemy's  mid section followed b Kizaru who subsequently kicks the frozen midsection breaking the person in half.
*Pyroclastic Headbutt: Kizaru blasts off with lasers whilst Akainu turns his head into magma both burning the opponent as well as pushing him backwards from the momentum of the lightspeed attack

AkaAoKi Iai: Aokiji slashes the opponent midsection with Ice Saber before Kizaru slashes him upward with Ama no Murakumo causing him to fly upwards before he is forced back down by Akainu who forms a whip made of magma (not canon attack yet).

Tunguska Impact: Kizaru uses Yasakata no Magatama to shoot laser beams into a large ball before Akainu covers it with magma followed by it covered in an outer layer of ice frozen by Aokiji. The subsequent ball is then kicked down by Kizaru like a giant asteroid and upon impact the magma is released burning anyone who wasn't flattened underneath followed by an explosion as a result of Kizaru's core of light.

Rain of fire: Akainu fires many small balls of lava which are then frozen by Aokiji while he is intangible as shards of ice. Subsequently the person is pelted by rock projectiles (slightly obsolete though as lava is probably more effective then rocks.

Wrath of Ra and Vulcan: Kizaru appears behind an opponent while Akainu is in front of him. He is subsequently attacked simultaneously by Kizaru's laser beam from his leg as well as Akainu's Dai Funka.

Magnifying Glass: Aokiji forms a clear ball of ice which Kizaru then fires at. The Light is concentrated into a single point burning said person like an ant with fire. Ice ball can then be moved around to more poor blokes who'll be running away from the trail of fire following them. Yes you can use ice to make fire. Quite interesting, saw it on Mythbusters.

Pinball Machine: Aokiji forms block of ice around the ground. Kizaru then uses Yata no Kagami bouncing off these reflecting blocks and hinting as many people as possible.

Regarding the cannonball attack: I think we can include that in the "where Oda got physics wrong" list.

Cannonballs aren't supposed to explode on contact. Like you said, the power of destruction of cannonball comes from the large mass and speed, which creates a large momentum and therefore kinetic energy. When you see explosions in OP due to cannonballs, that is most likely for the visual effect rather than correctness. Notice that hollywood movies can sometimes get this wrong too, just like how they always show flashes of light coming out of bullets shot from a gun (they're not supposed to emit light). Although to be fair, they did get this cannonball stuff right in Pirates of the Caribbean.

That said, I don't think the Marines have explosive cannonballs. I think Oda's just doesn't know that cannonballs possess a destructive power due to their kinetic energy. Either that, or he knows the fact, but just wants to create some sort of visual effect that makes things more BOOM!

Muggy Balls, on the other hand, follow a different law, since it can be deflected by Mihawk and yet still explodes when it hits Buggy xD

It still seems odd how the heroes are immune to these exploding cannonballs and are almost always able to deflect them.

The question is moreso the fact that these cannonballs have a habit of failing when they fire upon the Straw Hat crew. In other words, they seem to have a character shield.

They would fail when they fire upon any powerful pirates with the ability to counter them, when have we seen them work on any of them?

This whole article seems pointless.

Yes they're powerful.

But nonetheless, you mean to tell me that these things out of all surfaces cannot explode on human flesh?

Well we see them not explode so no, and thus there's no problem, before you start pointless topics go find out what the mechanics of OP cannonballs are so you have something to argue about.
X-X-X

Actually to hell with that, maybe you could remember what kind of series you are watching?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODOwuDlKI9o
The crew can be seen to regularly onshot giant sea monsters.
And as for sanji handling a little heat?
Do the words Diable Jambe mean nothing to you? Or the fact that "HIS HEART BURNS EVEN HOTTER!"

Hell what about the fact there's a selfmade cyborg that is powered by cola, and why is he powered by Cola? Because "COLA IS GOOD!"

Save your nitpicking for a series that cares. We're too busy having fun.

Cola powered cyborgs and diable jambe are a different matter in terms of development and instant power ups and less about canon mechanics. I have nothing against Franky because it was implied in flashbacks that he turned himself into a cyborg.

Sanji's diable jambe. Remind me again how from the entire length of the Sea Train arc from Water 7, how he magically figured out 'hey if I spin around really quickly I can somehow make a burning kick' even though for the whole of the arc he was merely using normal attacks? Or for that matter, how did Luffy during the whole sea train arc with no training whatsoever suddenly decide 'If I pump blood around my body really quickly, I can get superspeed.'

And back to cannonballs. So you mean to tell me that we can blow up a city with artillery and if it drops on a human it would instantly fail? Now, not to say explosive materials don't fail occassionally but we're talking about blokes catching a explosive weapon and suddenly sending it back.

Save my nitpicking? Well my friend, you care as you are still attempting to question me about the whole
