Condi demurs...

"Tim, I don't want to run for president of the United States," she said. Under more pressing, she tried, "I will not run for president of the United States. How is that? I don't know how many ways to say 'no' in this town."

"You're done? You're out?" Russert pressed. "I'm done," she said. They danced back and forth a little while longer, with Rice continuing to say, "I don't intend to run," and Russert asking for her to be more definitive. Finally, she said it again: "I won't run." And Russert had his scoop—and every Republican in the country suddenly got a kick in the teeth.

Moderates who had previously backed Rice - Come on over. We've got a candidate for you, and you'll be glad you switched...

Ack - we don't have Comedy Central!! What got said?

In that vein, funny story: one of my colleagues, who knows I'm involved in this stuff, was out with some friends of his this weekend. Now, these friends don't know anything about me or what I'm doing, but anyway, the talk gets around to the White House '08, and my collegue asks his friends whether they think America would be ready for a female President. And completely unprompted, his friend replies that as far as he knows, only two women are running - Hillary and Olympia Snowe. Hah!

My colleague was stunned, he just asked him "what makes you say that name?", and his friend replies "Oh, I've just heard her name mentioned...". Hah! Hah!

I actually have no idea what the context was--I was only half-watching when Stephen Colbert was like "blah blah Olympia Snowe blah" and I was like, "What? Wait, go back!" I'll try to catch one of the 5 gazillion reruns.

Haha, that's awesome! The best kind of publicity...

I caught it on reruns, but it wasn't much of a shout-out after all, she was just one of a couple random GOP Senators who were mentioned in a bit. I think they used her because she has a cool name. ;)

I'd rather have a chainsaw enema than have this skank as a presidential candidate. Republican? Ha! This broad is nothing but a liberal who is afraid to admit it. You people must be smoking something pretty good.

I'd rather have a chainsaw enema...

A few years back, a Tibetan Monk, to protest the Chinese occupation of Tibet, burned himself alive. You know what the Chinese authorities said when they read about this protest? "Hey, look: one less monk who's complaining about Tibet".
