POLL IS CLOSED!!! Sign-up HERE now!!!
While it was close up until the very last second, a bit of last minute pimpage by [info]storydivagirl ensured that there will be no Top 10 list of fandoms. And while a long sign-up time was holding it's own up until the bitter end, most people want to get the fun going immediately. (So, I tried to be fair and we'll have a short sign-up time, but a long time to write. *g*)

Any "closed" fandom is allowed. By "closed" we mean there isn't any new canon material coming out for that fandom. (Whether or not the Buffy/Angel comics are canon is something we're just overlooking since we want to focus on the TV showverse.) Also, the fandom cannot be one of the huge ones that dominate LJ (HP, LotR, etc.) even after the canon material has stopped being produced. If you're unsure a fandom is eligible, go ahead and ask. Also, please bear in mind the more obscure the fandom, the harder it is to match, but we'll do our best!

And now on to the rules:

Timeline:
Sign-Ups: May 6, 2008 - May 20, 2008
Assignments Sent By: May 25, 2008
Default Deadline: June 20, 2008
Fics Due: July 4th weekend

1) Even though you choose three fandoms and as many pairings as you want, you only have to write one story about one pairing.

2) All fics must be a minimum of 1000 words. There is no maximum. Please be sure to have your fics betaread prior to posting. (Ficathon mods are not available for betareading purposes, nor are we able to find you a betareader. We will, however, put a post up for betareaders to volunteer in.)

3) You will be asked to list pairings or characters you want. Please be sure to list a reasonable number for your writer, who is allowed to include any other characters he or she wishes to write. (Also: Please, no incest prompts. That's a can of worms your mod doesn't particularly want to open.)

4) If you sign up and discover you will not be able to complete a fic, please let me know by June 15 so I can find a back up. This also means you will not get the story you requested. It's only fair.

Defaulters will not be allowed to participate in any future [info]oldschoolfic ficathons.

5) If you have any questions, please e-mail me at larah33@gmail.com

The sign up format will go as follows:

So people can choose any fandom they want? or just any from the post before, despite what votes it got? ::is confused::

Sorry for the confusion.

People can choose three of any fandoms they want. But be aware that the more obscure the fandom, or if no one else mentioned it in the comments, we are less likely to be able to find a writer for you.

Um, am I just missing it, but where's the list of allowed fandoms?

There's no list, go nuts. This may cause some headaches for matching up, but we're going to roll with it. :) I'm compiling a list of requested & offered fandoms for reference.

I only write in one fandom (well, two, but the other is an offshoot of the first one), and, from the 'request' list, nobody seems to want it ...

It's still early; your fandom may still come up!

Maybe if you offered a particular fandom, it would spark a long-forgotten desire for fic in that fandom in someone else.

a few ficathon questions

I have just a few questions, if that's all right. I'm sorry if I'm too easily confused; I can only say that I'm fairly new to ficathons, and more familiar with email-list challenges. (And I love the idea of promoting out-of-production fandoms!)

>"and as many pairings as you want ... one story about one pairing." and "list pairings or characters you want."

First, to be sure, is gen all right? That is, the word "pairing" usually means romance. (I do see that "or characters" and the "and"s instead of slashes in some of the sample requests, but I want to be absolutely clear.) Nothing against romance! I just happen to lean gen.

Second, does the sample "Request 1" want Veronica/Logan and Mac/Dick and Wallace and Logan all in one story? Or is it Veronica/Logan or Mac/Dick or Wallace and Logan?

Third, depending on the answer to the second question, may we make all three requests in one fandom, or do they need to be in three fandoms? (I can offer to write in six or more fandoms; it's not that. ~g~)

Thank you very much!

Questions are always a good thing. Since this is the first ficathon I am running, I expect things to be a little confused - on everybody's part. ;-)

In answer to your first question, gen is a very good thing. If the recipient has requested Veronica/Logan, the slash is a request for romance. If you can't write romance or the pairing of these two characters squicks you out, as long as you have the two characters interacting in the story you should be fine.

As to your second question, the sample request is Veronica/Logan or Mac/Dick or Wallace and Logan. Unless you figure out a way to incorporate all the characters. In that case, you should be writing for TV.

Finally, I'm not sure if this is relevant as I'm not sure which answer it relates to in question #2. But for the record, you can make all three requests from one fandom. It might, however, make it more challenging for the moderators to find you a writer, and for your writer to be inspired for plot.

Feel free to ask more questions! (About the ficathon. I know nothing about quantum physics.)
