A Spice Girl for Geri

GERI Halliwell gave birth to a baby girl last night — after refusing to allow the tot’s dad to be present.

Ex-Spice Girl Geri, 33, checked into a suite at London’s Portland Hospital early yesterday to prepare for a Caesarean section. Her mum Anna Maria was with her at the birth — which was not due until later this month. The baby was delivered at 9pm by top obstetrician Malcolm Gillard, who delivered David and Victoria Beckham’s first son Brooklyn. Mr Gillard was also flown to Spain to oversee the birth of Posh’s third son Cruz and was recommended to Geri.

A hospital source said last night: “The birth went well. Mother and daughter are doing fine.”

The baby’s dad Sacha Gervasi, a 40-year-old Hollywood screenwriter, had been frozen out. Geri was introduced to British public school-educated Gervasi 18 months ago by pop pal Robbie Williams. She got pregnant during a six-week fling last year. But the couple split after a finger-jabbing row which left Geri in tears. Bearded Gervasi — who has battled drink and drugs demons — is angry at being shut out of his baby’s life. He is reported to have engaged the same high powered lawyers used by movie mogul Steve Bing in his paternity battle with Liz Hurley.

If Geri had the child in California, she and Gervasi would have shared equal parental rights. But she has spent more time in the UK during her pregnancy and decided to have her baby in London.

Geri has never publicly acknowledged that Gervasi is the dad. He said in a statement: “I fully intend to give Geri and the baby all the love and support they need.”

Why did they state he was public school educated? Is that a big deal?

In her head, maybe she did.

I don't know why, but I get the feeling she tried to get pregnant. Maybe it's just my view of her, I remember hearing how desperate she was to have a kid :/

My mother had to have my younger sister more than a month early because the strain of the pregnancy was making her go blind in her left eye and she needed to fly to a city (we lived in a small town at that stage) for an operation - but she was enduced as oppopsed to having a C-section. Geri could have just wanted to have a tummy tuck but there could have been some other medical reason behind it. Maybe? But seriously, I have no idea why women would want to be cut open, have a permanet scar and be in recovery for a long time than go through labour. Sure, it must hurt like hell a lot more at the time (helloo epidural, my love) but from what I've heard by those who have gone through both, the pain from C-sections post birth hurt a hell of a lot more.

Oh my God, your poor mom! That must have been scary for her. :(

My grandma had a C-section because she'd been pregnant for over 10 months and the doctors were concerned about her health and my mom's.

It seems that Geri has always wanted to have a baby - at least it seems to have been mentioned in the press A LOT - so it seems a bit sad that this is the way it happended. I don't pretend to know the whole story, but I hope she doesn't shut the father out totally.

Ohhhh, good for her. I can't wait to see what name she ends up going with.

I'm not going to judge about the c-section thing; I'm completely against having c-sections for no real medical reason, but the article didn't SAY it wasn't for one, so I'm keeping my mouth shut on that front.

If it really was delivered by the same doc that delivered Victoria Beckham's babies, then it probably was an unneccessary C-section; he doesn't seem to have a problem performing them. Celebs tend to have them at 8 months because it's easier to lose weight (don't ask me how though).
