The Real World "Detroit".... in Royal Oak...
If the rumors are true, MTV's popular reality show, "The Real World," could be taking up residence in Royal Oak.
The rumor has been circulating for months, but there is one thing that is for sure: Viacom, the owners of MTV: Music Television, have made a big real estate deal for a loft that is very similiar to others used for the show.
Local 4 obtained a press release put out by Southfield real estate company, Signature Associates-ONCOR International, which stated that Viacom Inc. leased 8,812 square feet of space for MTV in downtown Royal Oak.
"There was a lease agreement signed for more than 8,000 square feet to Viacom, which is the parent company of MTV," said Eric Morath, a writer at the Oakland Business Review.
News of the deal was first listed as just a small story in the transaction section of the Business Review, but now it's growing into a bigger story.
Morath reported that Viacom's leased space is in the Main North development on Main Street, near 11 Mile Road. It is still under construction.
A model of what the finished loft will look like reveals funky furnishings, chic interiors and exposed brick, Local 4 reported.
MTV officials would not confirm the purchase, Local 4 reported. They would only say that they are currently shooting "Real World: Key West" and will shoot next year at an undisclosed location. That is when the Royal Oak lofts are expected to be completed.
When Local 4 contacted Signature -- the real estate company in Southfield that issued the press release -- they said they had no comment.

I think they should get away from the fancy living of the past Real Worlds and let them experience the real Detroit... that'd be some good TV! Remember on one of the first Road Rules when they went to Detroit and they showed it abandoned and run-down and they were all Oh what a horrible place..? That's what I want to see :)
edit From the rumors I've heard they're going to be working the Superbowl... so that would make sense with them choosing Michigan...
