Twins no excuse as Ange turns recluse

FOR her sins - beauty, gorgeous partner, unfeasibly plump lips - Angelina Jolie is copping a lot of stick at the moment. Years of affection for her ability to swing from actress to UN goodwill ambassador, sexy girlfriend to devoted mother, appear to have crumbled. Jolie is now under attack from the gossip magazines for her introverted ways since giving birth to twins in July.

NW reports that Jolie is "refusing to leave" the French chateau she shares with Brad Pitt, but does not clarify who is asking her to load the people mover, venture beyond the front gate and face probably 50 photographers for every one of her six children.

The mag says Jolie is petrified her children will be kidnapped and quotes a "pal" saying: "If one of them is unaccounted for for more than 30 seconds she gets hysterical."

Grazia brands Jolie a "virtual recluse" because she "has not been seen in public for at least two months", an astounding claim given the tattle rags' usually critical response to celebrities making appearances immediately after giving birth.

Warning that Jolie "has long struggled to maintain a healthy weight" and "wants Brad to cut all ties with anything to do with Jen", Grazia wonders if the actress has lost her mind to vanity and jealousy.

Pitt, Grazia, OK! and NW trumpet gleefully, is to visit the Toronto International Film Festival just days before his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, an almost-collision the mags foresee as certain disaster.

OK! have even timed it - only 40 hours separate the pair making their respective walks down the red carpet. The dangers don't bear thinking about. Will Pitt, in a fit of latent guilt, spray paint "Sorry, I was an idiot, please take me back" on the carpet for Aniston to read on her stroll the next day? Will Aniston, her wristwatch out of whack from incessant international travel, turn up 40 hours early and walk confusedly beside Pitt to the cinema door? And, if the pair do somehow meet, are we to believe these seasoned celebrities will crumble before the world's media to kiss, punch or run away with each other? Reality, no doubt, will prove to be much more boring.

Much more spectacular is NW's cover story, Plastic Surgery Shockers, a terrifying gallery of Hollywood's more enthusiastic users of cosmetic remodelling. Tori Spelling's dented cleavage is dragged out for inspection once more, as are Lara Flynn Boyle's sagging cheeks and Britney Spears's scarred armpit. But the re-upholstering prize goes to Heather Locklear, whose face looks to have been inflated by a jumping castle's pump.

I'm sure there's a lot of ~scandalous~ snuggling taking place
