Eyebrows Extravaganza
Eyebrow Transplants???
The Huffington Post discusses craziness at the source. Excerpt: "One plastic surgeon says facial hair transplants - eyebrows, moustaches, even beards - are all the rage, especially with his Hollywood clientele. Dr. Antonio Armani, whose Alvi Armani clinics are located worldwide, says crafting becoming brows is increasingly common cosmetic procedure. When he began doing hair transplants in 1999, the doctor said he performed 10 to 15 brow transplants per year; lately, though, brow transplants have increased to 4 to 5 per month. Why the uptick? Dr. Armani thinks it's because thicker brows are more popular in Hollywood right now: Women tell him they'd prefer their brows to look like those on Brooke Shields or Jennifer Connelly." More on this in the post.
Interesting because Brooke Shields paved the way for this particular eyebrow look in the 80's, and became a highly successful model doing it. Jennifer's teen modeling career took off partly because she had 80's Brooke Shields type eyebrows. Both of them now are recognized as 80's eyebrow icons, so one might think that it's just one more sign that the 80's are back in a big way.
BUT comprehensive studies on this topic show that the changes in eyebrow preference may be more than a fad. The Daily Mail reported on a study released last year, done jointly by Johns Hopkins U in the US, and University of Regensburg in Germany, with the findings being published in the journal Aesthetic Plastic-Surgery.
The researchers compared the brow types illustrated by Nicole Kidman (highbrow) and Jennifer Connelly (lowbrow), finding that younger people prefer brows like Jennifer's, while older people prefer brows like Nicole's. To sum up the findings:
a. The most attractive brow of today is the one that curves low over the eye, reaching a peak height two-thirds of the way along.
b. Women are today resorting to plastic surgery to get the perfectly low eyebrow.
c. Younger people find this trend more attractive.
d. According to the report in the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery journal, the eyebrows are frequently placed too high, with the eyebrow arch in the middle, leaving the patients with an unnatural astonished expression.
e. According to researchers of the University of Regensburg in Germany and Johns Hopkins University in the US, lower brows are the shape of the future. (http://www.plasmetic.com/latest-trends/b
Lauren Conrad sports the lowbrow look.
"Plastic surgeons, ticking off their checklists for perfection, say American actress Jennifer Connelly has the best eyebrow shape of the moment. It curves lower over the eye, reaching a peak height two-thirds of the way along.
In contrast, the arched eyebrow favoured by Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman is at its highest point in the middle. This gives a somewhat quizzical, wide-eyed look.
Cosmetic surgeons believe the high eyebrow - at its peak in the Hollywood stars of the 1930s and 40s before its current appearance - could soon disappear forever.
After years of patients asking them to make their eyebrows higher, they are noticing a profound change in taste.
The surge in facelifts, which often make the eyebrow appear artificially high, could be deterring younger people from the look. Those opting for surgery are increasingly requesting that their brows are kept low.
Plastic surgeons at the University of Regensburg in Germany carried out a survey to assess the trend. A team of researchers showed pictures of women with different shaped eyebrows to around 350 people, ranging in age from 12 to 85.
Younger men and women rated lower eyebrow positions on all faces to be more attractive, while the older participants were drawn to the arched look.
The research was carried out with Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. and the findings published in the journal Aesthetic Plastic-Surgery.
Its report said: "Great diversity exists among individuals with respect to eyebrow position and shape and the notion of an 'ideal' shape has changed quite significantly over the past several decades.
"Young people up to 29 years of age judge arched eyebrows to be unattractive and prefer the lower positioned eyebrow with a maximum in the lateral third.
"Because trends are generally introduced by young people and not by older individuals, it seems plausible to assume that the trend currently appears to be moving away from arched eyebrows."
So who else sports the lowbrow look?In this look the brow arches further to the side.
And who doesn't?
In this look, the brow arches more in the middle.
Somehow Amanda Beard thinks she is better looking than Michael Phelps. You keep on believing Amanda. Just be thankful I didn't make this picture larger, it is truly frightening.

Christie is lowbrow, Alexa Ray highbrow.
Carrie had the lowbrow look....
But changed it.....
I liked them better lowbrow.
There's also been alot of talk about fuller brows making one look younger.
Holds true for Keira, here with her brows photoshopped out.
Pretty, and ........................................
Mena Suvari says "Don't overpluck ladies!" Again I spared you all the full sized photo. Very unpleasant.
And now we've come full circle. Back to this eyebrow transplant issue.
So eyebrow transplants. Weird huh? The source discusses this Dr Armani guy's process:
"First, Dr. Armani draws brows on you, both so he can assess how many follicles the area will need, but also so you can check out how your new brows might look. The actual transplantation process is typically a two- to three-hour-long procedure not requiring hospitalization. Dr. Armani says he uses local anesthesia to freeze an area of the body with fine hair, which works best for brows, in order to remove 50 to 400 follicles. For ladies, he removes scalp hair from above the ears; for men, he often removes back hair. Each follicle is microscopically taken from the original site and transplanted individually to the new site. Fiber implants are against the law in the United States and Canada so no hair implants are “fakes,” says Dr. Armani." (For some reason underlining is stuck on this paragraph, sorry).

No, I don't know that Megan Fox had brow transplants. She may not have. Maybe she overplucked before and managed to grow her brows back. But it's certainly possible. We know she changed other things about her face. In this picture, the brow hairs seem a little too perfectly straight, and somewhat growing upward, which is odd because most people's brows don't grow so perfectly in one direction. And the hairs would actually be attached and growing, so the longer they're there, the more natual they look, I assume. I dunno, in certain photos they just seem weird. Yet I do realize that many changes in appearance are due to things like cosmetics, aging, weight fluctuation, lighting, etc. So maybe something else explains it. What do you think ONTD?
