Sibling Rivalry
Sibling rivalry isn't easy to deal with at the best of times - when a younger, more successful or more attractive brother or sister usurps you, despite your best efforts to show them up. But when the rivalry is between celebrity siblings and it's played out in public for us mere mortals to witness, it's much, much worse. Take Madonna and younger brother Christopher Ciccone. They shared a close relationship, until, Christopher alleges, Madge froze him out of her inner circle in favour of mates from her Kabbalah centre. What's a guy to do? Write a tell-all book about his famous sister, that's what

ETA: Some of your stories are hilarious, especially the one where the brother hog tied you and stuffed a sock in your mouth.
I just remembered, last year (when I was 21!) my brother and I got into a fight that ended up with him punching me and me biting through his t shirt and drawing blood. He went out and I went into his room, spat blood all over his bed and wiped my arse on several of his work shirts.

Madonna and her younger brother Christopher Ciccone used to be closer than close – in the eighties and nineties he worked as his sister’s personal assistant, her backing dancer, home decorator and artistic director. She even took him as her date to the Oscars in 1998.
But they drifted apart five years ago (he blames her increased reliance on the teachings of Kabbalah) and they haven’t spoken in years. A tearful reunion seems more unlikely than ever now that Christopher has written a tell-all book about his superstar sis.
In his book, Life With My Sister Madonna, Christopher Ciccone claims that Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s entire lives are ruled by Kabbalah and that his multi-millionaire sister is stingy with money, except when it comes to donating to the religion. In a recent TV interview to promote the book, Christopher also let slip that Madonna has had a facelift.

Noel and Liam Gallagher have one of the world’s most well-documented sibling rivalries. The Oasis brothers are as notorious for their mutual loathing as they are for their songs. Noel, 41, and Liam, 35, seem to have the knack of doing each other’s heads in, occasionally even coming to blows. Some of their bust-ups over the years have even jeopardised the band’s existence as both brothers have threatened to quit Oasis.
Infamous rows have included Liam hurling a chair at Noel during the band’s first US tour in 1994, Noel leaving the band during a European tour in 2000 because he couldn’t stand to travel with his brother, and an argument in 2007 over who should keep their Brit award for Outstanding Achievement.

It’s a case of reversed sibling fortunes for the Simpson sisters! Jessica was the blonde bombshell with a successful solo career, a famous husband, a reality TV show, a budding film career and lots of lucrative endorsements, while Ashlee was merely the slightly nerdy, less attractive, younger sister hanging out in the background.
Fast-forward five years and Jessica’s divorced, the big film offers have dried up, and her albums are in the bargain basement; while little sister Ashlee has the bigger celebrity profile thanks to a rock star husband (Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy), a successful solo career and a well-timed nose job. And the couple have a child on the way.

Owen and Luke Wilson’s sibling rivalry tells a similar tale. Luke was the better looking, more famous brother in the nineties, but in recent years Owen has overtaken his more chiselled sibling in the career stakes. Rewind eight or so years and Luke was starring in respected films such as Rushmore and big blockbusters like Charlie’s Angels and Legally Blonde. But since then, he’s had to make do with smaller roles in films such as Jackass Number Two.
Owen, meanwhile, has seen his career and earning power go from strength to strength. He’s just finished filming Marley & Me with Jennifer Aniston, and has enjoyed hits aplenty in recent years with The Darjeeling Limited and Wedding Crashers, among others. Loads more girls fancy him now too, which is nice.

There’s nothing like a bit of sport to spice up a sibling rivalry. And in the case of Venus and Serena Williams, we’re not talking about a wrestling match in the back garden; we’re talking about competing to be the best female tennis player in the world!
The sisters have been each other’s biggest rival since they first picked up racquets as children. But unlike most child siblings, they both became top players at the highest level and have been fighting over the top spot in rankings for years. Neither likes to admit the other has the upper hand.
The pair recently took to Centre Court at Wimbledon to do battle for the women's title, which was won by older sister Venus. Before the match, Serena resented suggestions that Venus was the one to beat at Wimbledon this year. "I would never sit here and say she's the favourite when I'm still in the draw," she retorted. "That's not me. I always believe that I'm the favourite. Even if I'm not the favourite, I'm always going to believe that I am."

While Peaches and Pixie Geldof swan around London, going to showbiz party after showbiz party, posing for photographers outside exclusive nightclubs and dating guys from the NME Cool List, older sister Fifi Trixibelle stays home and watches Big Brother.
Sure, FiFi may have made a conscious decision to keep a lower profile than her socialite sisters, but there must come a time when she pines for a night of cocktails in the VIP section of London’s newest members’ bar, or for a share of the free clothes, jewellery and make-up that her glamorous younger sisters are sent by publicists on a regular basis.

Unlike most siblings on this list, Kylie and Dannii Minogue don’t want to poke each other’s eyes out – they’re always very lovely about each other in interviews and are often spotted out together on the red carpet, but it’s not all happy families behind closed doors.
It wasn’t easy for Dannii, the much bigger star in Australia when the sisters were growing up, to take a back seat to older sister Kylie when she won a role on Neighbours and subsequently signed a solo recording deal.
Dannii is widely regarded as the better singer of the two, so it couldn’t have been easy to watch her sister’s career head into the stratosphere while her own solo career faded before she was eventually dropped by her label. In fact, it took Kylie’s recent battle with breast cancer to finally bring the singing sisters closer after years of frosty relations.
At least they’re no longer in direct competition – Dannii has all but given up on singing to concentrate on her TV duties, hosting X Factor and Australia’s Got Talent. Kylie, meanwhile, cemented her status as Britain’s favourite adopted daughter when she was recently awarded an OBE from Prince Charles.

What's the worst argument you've ever had with a sibling? My older sister tried to push me out a third floor window when I was 15, so in retaliation, I set fire to her bedroom. Yea, that's how I roll. But they drifted apart five years ago (he blames her increased reliance on the teachings of Kabbalah) and they haven’t spoken in years.
