Celebrity Real Estate

Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany 's turn of the century mansion is under contract for close to it's 8.5 million asking price:

The RealEstalker reports:

"It certainly didn't take long for pulchritudinous Paul Bettany and Oscar winning actress Jennifer Connelly to unload their Brooklyn townhouse. According to the online listing, the 5,276 square foot Golden Age limestone mansion has already gone to contract and the rumor sweeping up and down Park Slope's 7th Avenue is that it's being sold for very close to the $8,500,000 asking price. The extremely successful but low key couple served as the de facto poster children for the Brooklyn real estate renaissance having scooped up their speck-tack-u-lar Prospect Park West mansion with 9 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in August of 2003 for $3,700,000."

The couple are also under contract to buy a penthouse loft in TriBeCa...

Photos of their Brooklyn Mansion:

RealEstalker reports: "All rumors and reports say that Miz Connelly and Mister Bettany have purchased a $7,000,000 (approx.) loft in the hideously expensive and tragically trendy celebrity and Wall Street enclave of TriBeCa.  At least Brooklyn still has Oscar nominated Michelle Williams, one of the gays from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and of course the newly anointed king and queen of Brooklyn based celebrities Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard. For now."

Speaking of Maggie, she has been the only person so far to shed light on why Paul and Jenn are leaving their incredible home behind.

NY Magazine writer Tim Murphy asked Gyllenhaal at a charity event for her thoughts on Paulifer leaving Park Slope:

So what does Gyllenhaal think about her fellow Brooklyn celebs, Jennifer Connelly and hubby Paul Bettany, fleeing the borough? "I don't know her,  but everyone's telling me that she's leaving, she's leaving. But she lives in a mansion, like a huge house, and we don't…" Our eyebrows involuntarily took flight. "I mean, we live in a brownstone, it's huge, it's big, believe me, I'm grateful for all the space we have. But I think [Connelly] was saying that her house was kind of too much. Our house, like, it doesn't feel like too much."

As for Paulifer's reported new pad, Curbed.com reported "The 4,000-square-foot Tribeca loft has a drop-dead-gorgeous private roof deck, and while leaving Park Slope must have been a tough decision, the recent $995,000 pricechop on this apartment probably made it a bit easier." The penthouse loft's price was lowered to $6,995,000.

They better get the interior decorator from their Brrooklyn pad to their new place stat. Those chairs in the kitchen make me want to claw my eyes out! Horrifying. Love the roof deck and the bookshelves in the living room though. All in all, these two made out like bandits. They sold their place at a huge profit, which allowed them to buy the penthouse easily....and I'm sure all the moolah Jenn made as the face of Balenciaga didn't hurt either. So which pad would you take? Park Slope or TriBeCa bbs?

Jesus. They can sell their 8.5 million dollar mansion, but my sister can't sell her 114K house. Crazy.

The housing market is so depressing right now. My friend's mom is a real estate agent and it seems like she can never get a break. Every time she's about to close a deal, something bad happens. :(

I think the Brooklyn house is too dark and creepy. The loft is gorgeous. I love it.

Good for them. As long as they're not selling it because they're splitting up, I don't care where they live. :)

I agree. The first place is too oversized and oppressive. A family their size would rattle around in it. The new place looks more like a family home.

i love the brooklyn house but it is too huge. I'd also want all the wood painted white or cream. i know that's a crime with a house that is as classic as that but all that dark wood screams heavy and oppressive to me.

Poor bb....I think it depends on who did the breaking up and whether you want to get back together...I'm guessing since you wrote him a letter of apology, you broke up with him? If you're calling because you want to get back together, you can call him whenever...if you want to stay broken up, DON'T CALL HIM.

Its asking price.

And really technically, their asking price, since the house can't ask its own price.
