Over 500 people go see Gene Hackman, live in concert
RALEIGH - Gene Hackman drew a large crowd of over 500 people on Friday at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh, as they gathered to meet the actor who was signing copies of his new book.

Hackman, a well-known and popular actor for decades, was there to promote his new book called "Escape From Andersonville," a novel about a soldier who escapes from prison camp during the Civil War.
According to the bookstore, the novel is Hackman's third and was written with fellow author Daniel Lenihan, who was also at the book signing.
Amazon.com book reviews show that Hackman and Lenihan's books have received good reviews with all three of them receiving four out of five stars or higher.
Those who waited in line at the book-signing were eager to meet the Oscar and Golden Globe winning actor, who has been a fixture in movies four over four decades. He kindly shook hands with guests and many had their picture taken with him, as he smiled or shook their hand.
Hackman has appeared in dozens of movies including the French Connection, The Conversation, A Bridge Too Far, Superman, Reds, Hoosiers, No Way Out, Mississippi Burning, Class Action, The Firm, Unforgiven, Geronimo, Wyatt Earp, Crimson Tide, Get Shorty, Absolute Power, The Royal Tenenbaums, Runaway Jury and other great films.
Many fans brought movie memorabilia, DVD's and photos for Hackman to sign, who kindly posed with fans for pictures and signed items for several hours.
Hackman, a former Marine, has been known for his roles in which he plays smart but tough characters.
"It's exciting to meet him," said a fan who had just shaken Hackman's hand. "He's a screen legend and to me, he's the ideal American hero."
