Ed McMahon's House is losing his house: ITS ALL BRITNEYS FAULT
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Ed McMahon, who for decades appeared as Johnny Carson's sidekick on "The Tonight Show," is fighting to avoid foreclosure on his multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills home, according to published reports.

The former "Star Search" host was $644,000 behind on payments on $4.8 million in mortgage loanswhen a unit of Countrywide Financial Corp. filed a default notice Feb. 28 with the Los Angeles County Recorder's Office, The Wall Street Journal first reported late Tuesday.

McMahon, 85, has been unable to work as a pitchman for various products since he broke his neck 18 months ago, said his spokesman, Howard Bragman.

"There are plenty of people affected by the weak economy, bad housing market or bad health," Bragman said.

McMahon has been in "very fruitful discussions" with the lender to resolve the situation, Bragman said. But it's unclear whether McMahon and his wife, Pamela, will remain in the home.

A spokesman for Countrywide declined comment to the Los Angeles Times.

The six-bedroom, five-bath house is in a hilltop gated community overlooking Mulholland Drive called The Summit and is listed for sale at $6.25 million. It has been on the market two years, according to real estate agent Alex Davis, who has the listing.

The house is near that of pop star Britney Spears, which doesn't always work in its favor.

"When we were trying to sell the house one time, there were about 100 paparazzi there," Davis said.

That swing set looks like it's from the dinosaur ages. Then again, so does McMahon.

Foreclosure is a bitch. It makes me never to want to own a house since mortgages always seem like 2k a month :/

That's because people just love buying more house than they can afford. I have an updated 3BR/2BA house with yard & 2-car driveway in a safe Philadelphia neighborhood and my mortgage is $850/month ($1,060 including taxes & insurance). Trust me, owning a house fucking RULES if you go about it the right way.

I rent a house right now in rural KY. It'll be a long time before I buy a house since both my and my husband's credit is horrible.

I'm just saying, it isn't something you should be afraid of. There are homes out there for all budgets, it's the people who demand McMansions/SUVs/flatscreen plasmas on average salaries that get screwed. Well, them and the people who can't be bothered to actually read their mortgage terms.

My husband and I live in northern TN and we have a 3br/1.5 bath house...even with not so good credit, we were able to get house payments of $525/mo. Don't give up without trying...we didn't think we'd be able to get approved but we did.

it's been so far the most 'real' house i've seen though - although it's mammoth, it actually looks like people live there.

Yeah, but the thing is, homes for sale aren't supposed to look like that. Ideally they should be staged with only a couple items, and absolutely nothing kitschy/personal, so it's as neutral as possible and easy for buyers to imagine themselves there. All that clutter is probably why it's sat on the market for as long as it has.

I totally agree having just sold my own house in 4 days.

For some reason I just liked that it looked like people actually lived there.

At his age, he should have saved up money so that he wouldn't have to work. At 85 you shouldn't depend on being able to go to work.

I would expect much more for $6.25 million. CA is out of control! But I think it's sweet that he has that painting of Johnny on his wall. TBH I wasn't really aware Ed was still alive. :/

I don't know how people can go w/o some sort of window covering. I would get so ticked at the sun trying to creep into my room in the morning. Or the neighbor peeking at me taking a bath.

I used to think that too, but when I moved into my new house we didn't have window coverings for the first week or so, and you get used to it really fast. Since the sunlight comes on slowly it doesn't wake you up - and then when you do want to get out of bed you wake up more easily, because the sun makes you feel like you should be awake. I dig it.

Hmmm...that's probably not a bad idea, I would probably wake up easier if my room wasn't pitch black when my alarm goes off lol.

CLOONEY lives near Britney, so if I buy Ed's house, I would be near to George.

THat's how they should market this house.

I drive by his house every couple of days or so. It is a really beautiful home from the outside, but yes, Britney lives on the next street and it's a damn nightmare. Yesterday the damn helicopter was a few hundred feet above us trying to get shots of her in her backyard and even though they have posted No Parking signs outside of the Summit I saw two paps parked out there waiting for her to come out. They sit at the intersection of Mulholland and Coldwater with damn walkie talkies in order to keep updated on her activities. They suck and it disrupts the whole damn neighborhood especially when the helicopter is overhead.
