Rob Corddry lands 'Project A'
Ben Stiller among producers for actor's first starring role

Rob Corddry has landed his first starring role with "Project A," a New Line action comedy being produced by Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld via their Red Hour shingle.

Corddry will star as the "A" in the venture, playing a man trained by the U.S. government as a Cold War experiment to become the world's biggest jerk. The script is written by Etan Cohen, one of the writers of Stiller's upcoming "Tropic Thunder."

The project has been in development for several years, and Corddry has long wanted in on it.

"Ben and Stuart gave it to me to read years ago, and it's always been the first thing I ask my agents and managers about," Corddry told The Hollywood Reporter. "They've always said, 'Go open a movie first!' "

Corddry is onscreen in New Line's "Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay" and "What Happens in Vegas," stealing scenes as he's always done since his getting his start as a correspondent on "The Daily Show."

He said he's happy to reach the stage of his career where is being considered for larger roles.

"I'm slowly working my way up the ladder, starting from high school drama class," he said. "I am hoping this will break my cherry, as it were." Only half-joking, he added, "I've never been higher than No. 3 on the call sheet."

No director is attached to "Project A."

Richard Brener and Dave Neustadter are overseeing.

Corddry, repped by Endeavor and Principato/Young, is prepping to portray former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer in Oliver Stone's "W," which he will shoot in June.

BTW: It should be noted that Ed Helms also has a starring role in "A Whole New Hugh" currently in development with Apatow Productions & Universal.

I used to feel that way, but then Jon Stewart started being really, really political, and the funny stopped being as funny. Colbert is just ridiculous which appeals to me. Plus, he's hot.

At least I have Colbert Report.

I love John Oliver. He's easily the best correspondent (sorry, Sam Bee), but it's a long way before he'll be able to open a film. He's got about 2 more years of "wacky sidekick" roles in movies.

i love this guy, 'the winner' was not given time to develop. i mean, it wasn't great, but it could have been with a minimum of time. this movie sounds hilarious.

He was funny on Harold and Kumar but idk if he can carry a movie. Like, in some scenes he was HILARIOUS and in other scenes I was like "get that jackass of my screen, where's NPH?".

Yeah, "The Winner". It had potential, but it never had an actual shot at being successful, at least not on FOX. If it'd been given a full season I think it could have been great.

I miss all of the old DS correspondents, like him and Ed Helms and Steve Carrell... the only ones I really love that are left now are Samantha Bee, John Oliver and Aasif Mandvi.
