Skin Cancer Takes Friends
In recognition of May being Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Olay and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) have joined forces for the fourth year for "Skin Cancer Takes Friends," a nationwide free skin cancer screening program that encourages Americans to bring their friends to a participating dermasurgeon's office for a free skin cancer screening. Together with Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross, Olay and the ASDS are working to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and detection in the fight against skin cancer.

I know why they're doing it, but I still laugh when it's well sunny out and I see pale people with umbrellas.

b/c Asian girls do it and it's ridiculous and awkward. However, I am allergic to many sunscreens and I do it when I can't find any.

Ugh, I go in for my yearly skin check next Thursday, and I am terrified I am going to have skin cancer/be dead from it within a week.

Light-ish complexion, I hate you!

I urge everyone to get screened. I just found out a couple weeks ago that I had melanoma, and I'm not high-risk (I have medium pigmented skin, wear sunscreen daily, and have never been a sun-worshipper). I had a punch excision done and that's that for now since it was caught so early, but now I have to get regular checks a few times a year to make sure it's not progressing or other areas aren't affected.

I go in next week... would you mind if I asked you a question or two about the process? (I'm just a little scared, that's all.)

My dad was found with stage 3 melanoma. He went into remission but then it came back as stage 4. He had pretty fair skin and spent most of his young adult life in Afghanistan and Malaysia, where he got some pretty horrible sunburns, even with sunscreen.

hah

olays makeup is full of parabens and other chemicals.
if they really want to fight skin cancer they should drop the cancer casuing ingredients in their makeup.

Except that it's the UVA (and to a lesser extent UVB) rays that causes the vast vast majority of skin cancer.
