Wicked whispers and racy rumors! Just asking if the romance between pop-singer Jessica Simpson and Dallas Cowboys football star Tony Romo went up in smoke this weekend. He’d arrived here on Thursday checking into the Hard Rock Hotel and told friends that while she was stuck in Los Angeles they were busy texting back and forth and calling each other to see how they could link up here. Tony was with fellow Cowboys Jason Witten and Anthony Fasano for the retirement celebrations of team-mate Marco Rivera.

Tony enjoying 24-hour single-status, was all over town: cocktails and bowling at his Hard Rocksuite then at Tryst in the Wynn where he partied with boxer Floyd Mayweather and poker pro Kenny Tran.

Then next night Jessica flew in to surprise him and two-romantic days got underway as they ecstatically coupled up in the resort’s plush posh penthouse. They invited their team-mates and other NFL stars in for private bowling and drinks where Jessica racked up the highest scores! Their first night together, which included a dinner at the resort’s new Robert DeNiro restaurant, Ago ran “honeymoon smooth,” according to those in the know. The only sad part of that was the farewell rounds of drinks to Fasano being traded away to the Miami Dolphins and Rivera’s retirement. At Ago the 30-person strong party ate Italian family style accompanied by Ago’s own Super Tuscan red Wine.

Next day all started beautifully with private butlers serving “breakfast in bed” to Jessica and Tony, who stayed on camped out in the suite relaxing in the Jacuzzi. But then sometime after that things began to unravel, Badly! Now I’ve got some pretty solid inside sources in this city but what you’ll read now is a doozy. Somewhere amidst the rumors, the gossip, the whispers lies some elements of truth but here’s the gist of the behind-the-scenes flare-up and flame-out!

It began when Jessica, Tony and the players all hit the Peacock Lounge for high limit blackjack. Jessica was said to have won $5,000 and then they retired to their penthouse while the others went onto the Body English nightclub. The couple even spent some time tanning in the sunshine rays at the new $8 million makeover pool at the Hard Rock while watching the NFL draft on their private cabana HD TV screens. At some point, however, allegedly Tony, who was rumored to be paid a $15,000 appearance fee at Body English took the money and went gambling. My spywitnesses tell me that by the time he was finished he’d lost a fortune and I swear to you I was told that the figure could have run as high as a whopping $2.5 million. Whatever the staggering loss totaled it immediately put a damper on their fun weekend. I’m reliably told Hard Rock officials offered to pay Jessica a bonus $25,000 if she’d co-host at Body English the second night with Tony.

Allegedly a livid Jessica refused because she’s paid far more for personal appearances and the fun weekend had suddenly turned into a commercial gig. Also she was said to be “angry beyond words” over his gambling and the large loss. Insiders told me that one thing led to another and they wound up in a “furious fight.” I was then told that instead of turning up together for a third day of “fun in the sun” at DMX’s party for the re-opening of the Rehab summer pool they both left town unexpectedly.
