Love. Peace. and SOUL.
It’s the end of the line for the Soul Train Music Awards, which have largely been ignored by the African-American stars the event aims to honor. A spokeswoman said the show would not go ahead with its 22nd annual installment this year, but a reason was not specified. At last year’s event in Pasadena, most of the winners did not show up, including such A-listers as Beyonce Knowles, Mary J. Blige, John Legend and Gnarls Barkley. The show takes place a few weeks after the Grammys, the music industry’s top awards. Similarly themed ceremonies like the BET Awards have also provided some competition.

For old time sake, four legends performing the classic ballad "That's What Friends Are For" @ the 1st Soul Train Music Awards [March 23rd, 1987]

Soul Train went off the tracks the minute Shemar Moore started hosting. Ugh. No one can replace the smug coolness that was Don Cornelius

and I <3 that vid. God, the 80s were so terrible. LMFAO @ stevie's hair!!!

I am reminded of the episode of Fresh Prince when Uncle Phil's parents came into town for his award and he was embarrassed by his upbringing.

Poor Zeke.

I think it's just "Best of" shows now. It's from way back in the day when Don had a huge fro.

when i was a wee one, i'd watch the show with my mom every week! it was fun. i caught a glimpse of it once since growing up, and it went straight downhill and into hell. i mean, the people were still wearing the same shit from the early 90s/late 80s! and it was like 2-thousand-something. it was crazy. the dancing was worse.

That shit smells like BET. >: (

Man the Soul Trains were absolutely awful last year. The worst thing ever.

Man "That's What Friends are For" always makes me so sad.
We sung it a lot at my elementary school. I understood and felt it so much even back then. I was an emotional kid.
also my mom and cousin and aunt sung it like karaoke style at a mall once and got a tape. so it always makes me think of them. :)
Man Stevie Wonder is such a wonderful guy. OH LUTHER! :(
oh whitney come back. you're the best there ever was!
