Simon Cowell Has a Heart!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
He's known as a meanie on American Idol, but today on Oprah Simon Cowell revealed what a big heart he really has.

The British judge, whose known for his bitter tongue, decided to take part in Oprah's Big Give program in a big way -- by paying off the mortgage of a couple who are struggling with their daughter's debilitating cancer.

Amy and Randy must travel more than 100 miles from their home each day so that their daughter Madeline can receive treatments.

In order to lessen the burden on the family, Simon decided to pay off the family's $162,000 mortgage.

"I never knew that doing good could feel so good," said Simon.

ok

those people annoyed me. the mother did nothing but cry during all the segments filmed of them in the hospital and it made her daughter upset and start crying even during the times she seemed to be taking it all pretty well. come on! pull it together for your kid! i know it's a tough situation to deal with but the incessant crying is only making everything worse for your child.

and then simon told them about paying off their mortgage and the dad just sort of stood there like someone told him they would buy him lunch that day. he was like an emotionless robot or something. talk about an extreme couple.

Seriously though, this was a very nice thing to do.

I seriously need to come up with some sob story so a famous person can do something like this for me.

This reminds me, you know those people on Extreme Home Make Over? Usually they are poor and shit, how do they pay the electric and water bills in those gigantic houses that get built for them? My electric bill is outrageous and my house isn't anywhere near being as big as some of the houses I have seen on that show [and I am not as broke as some people on that show appear to be].

From what I understand of Home Makeover, they go out of their way to try and lessen the financial burden of the new homes by doing...something with the mortgages. Argh! I wish I could remember. They do better than any other show at lessening the financial hardship. And sometimes someone pays off the mortgage completely (which leads to extra money to pay those power bills). But I've wondered about that too - if the mortgage isn't paid off and they get a huge house, how are they supposed to afford to live there? Heck, the property taxes will skyrocket!

If I had money, I would love spending it on people like that. As it is, all I can really do is buy someone's lunch and not make them pay me back. It feels nice though :D... usually.

Can somebody tell me why it was necessary to travel 100 miles? Couldn't they have just.... oh, I don't know, moved? And maybe purchased a less-expensive house?

Idk, I didn't watch the show, so I'm hoping somebody can explain it to me.

A 100 miles is about 1.5-2 hour drive. Not long when you compare how much people commute in this country.
