does every antm winner deserve to win? [07 Feb 2008|12:17am]
On her talk show today, Tyra decided she wanted to play Moment of Truth, that game show that hooks people up to lie detectors and then asks them difficult questions. Tyra's set of questions (which we're pretty sure her staff wrote) included: "Did you really make up with Naomi Campbell?" (She said yes, which was apparently true.) "Are you jealous of Oprah?" (No, proved to be false.) "Do you really care about girls' self-esteem?" (Yes, true.)

"Do you think every America's Next Top Model winner deserves to win?"

Eva Mendes Checks Out of Rehab [07 Feb 2008|12:56am]

Life & Style
is reporting that actress Eva Mendes, 33-years-old, has left rehab and is now back in Los Angeles.

The actress left Utah's Cirque Lodge rehab clinic earlier today and
boarded a flight to Los Angeles just after 6pm this evening. Not too long after Kirsten Dunst allegedly check-into the facilities.

Mendes arrived at LAX shortly after 9pm PST
after spending a number of weeks in rehab.

At the time her spokesman said: "Eva has been working hard for the
past year and made a positive decision to take some much needed time
off to attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she
felt deserved some outside professional support."

Karolina Kurkova Is A "G.I. Joe" Cover Girl [07 Feb 2008|01:38am]
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Czech supermodel Karolína Isela Kurková will be bringing Courtney A. Kreiger, better known as Cover Girl, to the big screen in Paramount Pictures' G.I. Joe. The film is based on the "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero" toy line of the 1980s.

Prior to joining G.I. Joe as a tank jockey, Illinois-bred Cover Girl was a highly successful fashion model who graced the covers of countless magazines. Failing to find fulfillment in the fashion world, she joined the army to seek out new challenges and prove she was more than just a pretty face.

Kurková joins David Murray (Destro), Dennis Quaid (Hawk), Arnold Vosloo (Zartan), Channing Tatum (Duke), Sienna Miller (The Baroness), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Rachel Nichols (Scarlett), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Heavy Duty), Said Taghmaoui (Breaker), Marlon Wayans (Ripcord), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Rex), and Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow) in the movie, set to be released August 7, 2009.

Brit's 'BFF' and our favorite cousin Alli Sims [07 Feb 2008|01:41am]
I went to LSU my freshman year in college with Alli Sims. It was the 1999/2000 school year and she was only there for one semester before she went on to Ole Miss. We pledged Kappa Delta together and were sorority sisters together until she left. It is weird to me to have known a "celebrity" and see her everywhere now. She was a very smart and very sweet loyal girl, nothing like the girl she is sometimes portrayed to be. She was never a name dropper and only her friends knew Britney was her cousin. She even got me a autograph from Britney because I was a fan. The night of the 99 VMA's which took place 9.9.99 Alli & I were together and she called Britney from my cellphone to see how things were going. That Christmas she was upset because she would miss Britney's birthday party in New York because Alli had finals (which took place around Dec 2nd.). I'm just saying Alli did not just appear from nowhere like some of the other people. Alli is a smart girl and very kind. Anyway I have a few pictures if you want to see them. She really hasn't changed much at all.

Haylie Duff tries to win back Charlie Mcdowell [07 Feb 2008|02:51am]
" HAYLIE DUFF is desperately trying to reunite with writer/director ex-boyfriend CHARLIE McDOWELL, less than two months after she ditched him.

The pair hooked up last summer (07), but Duff - big sister to Hilary ditched the son of Mary Steenburgen and Malcolm McDowell in November (07).

But sources claim Duff, 22, changed her mind when she heard rumours McDowell, 24 was romancing Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere.

A friend tells the National Enquirer, "She did an about face and began calling Charlie non-stop, telling him she'd made a huge mistake. At one point she even begged him: 'Please take me back.'

"He told Haylie he'd moved on and wanted nothing more to do with her." "

Parenting Team: Nicole Richie and Joel Madden [07 Feb 2008|06:35am]

They’re one of the hottest new parenting teams in Tinseltown, and Joel Madden and his girlfriend Nicole Richie are taking the right steps to a lasting relationship.

Not letting their parenting duties rob them of their alone time, the “Simple Life” hottie and her “Good Charlotte” rocker beau took some quality time to themselves on a stroll out on the streets of Hollywood yesterday.

Letting her long blonde locks down, Nicole looked cute and casual in a striped shirt with a leather jacket and some comfy jeans, while Joel rocked a fedora, track jacket and dark trousers.

Speaking of Joel, it sounds like he may have a chance at an acting gig coming up soon. Rumor has it Juno writer Diablo Cody thinks he may be right for a part in a new flick.

Pete Wentz is said to be the number one choice, but you never know what may happen if they both audition.

Super Bowl Losers' Misprinted 19-0 Gear To Third-World Countries [07 Feb 2008|07:45am]
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

New York Giants Super Bowl XLII gear is flying off shelves, but what happens to the losing New England Patriots' merchandise?

Shirts, sweatshirts and hats, all printed with the Patriots as the Super Bowl winners, arrived at the World Vision warehouse in Sewickley on Tuesday.

Many of the shirts say "19-0" -- a reference to the Pats' quest for a perfect record. Instead, the Giants' victory ended the AFC champions' season at 18-1.

The losers' gear will be packed and sent to third-world countries by World Vision, which works to improve the lives of poor children in more than 100 countries.

Misprinted merchandise for the Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers, who lost to the Giants and the Patriots in the NFC and AFC championship games, will also be sent to other countries.

Post-Strike Update [07 Feb 2008|09:24am]
When TV Shows Return

The latest rumors on the post-strike return of "Heroes," "Ugly Betty," "Gossip Girl," "How I Met Your Mother," "24," "Samantha Who" and other shows.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

HEROES: NBC's sci-fi drama from the producer Tim Kring was originally planning to open a new arc titled "Villains" in early 2008. Since the studio would probably not be able to film more than 3 new episodes this season, NBC is expected to delay the return of the drama till September, when season 3 launches. Next season may however contain more than the standard 22-23 episodes.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

GOSSIP GIRL: The CW's teen drama based on the series of bestselling books is expected to return in late April with the remaining 9 episodes. Under that scenario, the struggling network would extend its official TV season into the summer. "Gossip Girl" was the first freshman drama to receive a full-season pickup last October, and would possibly be the only hour-long drama to film a full season of 22 episodes.

Naomi: Fashion industry more racist [07 Feb 2008|09:35am]
Naomi: Fashion industry more racist

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Supermodel Naomi Campbell says the fashion industry is more racist than ever.

Campbell hit out at the lack of black faces on magazine covers and catwalks.

She told The London Paper: "Women of colour are not a trend. That's the bottom line. It's a pity that people don't always appreciate black beauty. In some instances, black models are being sidelined by major modelling agencies."

She continued: "Fashion needs to go back to the way it used to be when wonderful designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Gianni Versace and Azzedine Alaia just had a great line-up of beautiful women - white, black, Chinese, Hispanic."

Campbell, 37, admitted that her supermodel pals helped her career by taking a stand against racism.

"Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington would go to big designers and say, 'If you don't pick Naomi to be in your show, then I don't want to be in it'," she recalled.

"The only reason I got the cover of French Vogue was because Yves Saint Laurent called up and told them he'd pull his ads if they didn't."

The Streatham-born star spoke out after her former boss admitted racism was still rife in the industry.

Carole White, head of the Premier model agency and who represented Campbell for 17 years, said: "A black girl has to be perfect to get work. The bookers are told, 'Don't send any ethnic girls'.

"I showed a picture of a new black girl to an agent in Milan, and he actually recoiled. He said, 'We don't have black girls in Milan. It's impossible.'"

With a brown wig and bloody nose, this is Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding as you've never seen her, in a new thriller.

Pop star Sarah looks unrecognisable as she covers her blonde elfin crop for a performance in upcoming movie Bad Day.

The film marks Sarah's second on-screen outing after her cameo in the St Trinians movie last year.

Sarah, 26, plays Jade Jennings opposite former Casualty star Claire Goose in the low-budget movie, which was filmed in just two weeks in London.

Claire plays vigilante cop Rebecca Ryan, who goes a revenge rampage to find the killers of her daughter Lynn.

In one scene, Sarah looks quite the femme fatale as she smokes while dressed in a white macintosh in the back of a car.

Beck admits lyrics from classic songs were nonsense
Words from 'The New Pollution' and 'Devil's Haircut' were 'scratch' vocals

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Beck has revealed that lyrics from some of his most famous tracks were nonsense.

The star admits that many songs - including 'The New Pollution' and 'Devil's Haircut' - featured "scratch" vocals – lines the star recorded during initial recordings of the songs to fill in blanks, that theoretically should have been replaced later on.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the singer explained that most of the vocal parts on his 1996 album 'Odelay' were ad-libbed.

“Most of the vocals on the record were scratch vocals,” he said. “We just grew attached to them.”

The lyrics Beck referred to include the lines, "Heads are hanging from the garbage man trees/Mouthwash jukebox gasoline" from 'Devil's Haircut', and, “She’s got cigarette on each arm/She’s got the lily-white cavity crazes/She’s got a carburettor tied to the moon/Pink eyes looking to the food of the ages" from 'The New Pollution' .

The Christina Aguilera Baby Exclusive [07 Feb 2008|11:22am]

CHRISTINA AGUILERA sits down with our JANN CARL for her very first television interview since having her baby boy MAX less than four weeks ago.

"I'm enjoying him every second," she says of her son. "I can't stop staring at him, studying him. You can't believe you created this. Me and my husband couldn't be happier."

The Grammy-winning singer says having a baby doesn't compare to anything she's done before.

"You think you've accomplished all these amazing things until you have your first born or even your second born and it's like, 'You can't believe what you've done, what you're capable of doing,'" she says. "I have to say throughout the pregnancy I was never more appreciative of what the female body is capable of doing until the whole thing happens and you're like, 'Oh my God I did this.'"

Christina, who's all-new concert DVD 'Back to Basics: Live and Down Under' is in stores now, says there are many places she wants to take her career but knows it will now involve a creative balance.

"'How am I going to balance my love for creativity and performing with the ultimate of importance in my life -- my child?'" is something she says she's definitely asked herself. "[But] it can be done -- there are many mothers who are able to do it and do it well."

Paris Hilton Picks Up Harvard Lampoon Award [07 Feb 2008|11:33am]

As promised, Paris Hilton made a rare visit to Massachusetts today, picking up her trophy for being named the biggest slut in hollywood Harvard Lampoon’s Woman of the Year.

The heiress showed up to the ceremony about an hour later than scheduled, walking up the steps of the Lampoon “Castle” before telling gathered onlookers: “You guys rock. Harvard is hot!”

Always the comedian, one eyewitness tells, “At one point Hilton tried to dupe the crowd by telling them her friend Nicole Richie was with her, before saying ‘Just kidding.’”

More seriously, the 26-year-old told the 100 plus onlookers: “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine standing here, standing on the steps of the Harvard Lampoon. It’s really exciting and I’ve had such a great time.”

Britney's Hair Issues :( [07 Feb 2008|11:58am]

What the hell IS going on with Brit's hair in this picture?

RADAR:What is this? Why did it happen?

ALLISON: Oh, no.

SETH: Oh my goodness.

ALLISON: She did the top with a single process, then this is bleached, then she's trying to let her natural grow out in there. She has so much going on, there's so many factors. Wow. The bleach is breaking her hair, and she's sewing in tracks.

SETH: This is an example of her saying, I'm going out tonight, I want extensions and I want tracks. She wants that thickness, but of course it's not working.

RADAR: Would she have been better off with a wig?
SETH: Oh, yeah.

ALLISON: Should have been a wig from day one. Like a beautiful, gorgeous $10,000 lace-front wig.

RADAR: What's a lace-front wig?

SETH: Imagine a bathing cap with hair sewn onto it, put onto all of your own hair, and then integrated around all the borders to finish it, with the front of your hairline integrated. Britney can afford this.

ALLISON: They can be beautiful.

SETH: For instance, Nicole Kidman. She's got a head of hair, but the hairline isn't perfect, so for a lot of her movies she gets full lace-front wigs.

Rosie gives up alcohol

 +  =

Rosie O'Donnell is on the wagon, she says on her blog.

The former View host made the alcohol-abstinence revelation after telling one fan she'd shed pounds by giving up beer.

That prompted another to ask, "So, Rosie, alcoholic or not? Just spit it out! Don't go all Star Jones on us here. What led to you stopping the beer?"

O'Donnell posted back: "'Cause I was drinking too much, 'cause I didn't want to any more, 'cause it is hard to lose weight when drinking, 'cause I can never have only one."

Swearing off the sauce is "not easy," she added, "but I feel better."

From her blog:
"So Rosie, Alcoholic or NOT? Just spit it out! Don’t go all Star Jones on us here. What led to you stopping the Beer? You’ll only help someone else. “you felt it was time”…WHY…inquiring minds…

cause i was drinking too much
cause i didnt want to anymore

Winona & Keanu in New Movie [07 Feb 2008|12:35pm]

From Variety: Alan Arkin, Monica Bellucci, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Keanu Reeves have joined the already starry cast of Rebecca Miller’s “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.”
Pic, which is produced by Elevation Filmworks and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, already features Julianne Moore and Winona Ryder. Robin Wright Penn stars as a dutiful wife whose husband falls for a younger woman, freeing her to explore her buried sensuality and leading to “a very quiet nervous breakdown.”
Miller (”The Ballad of Jack and Rose”) directs from her own novel of the same title. Lensing is skedded to begin in April 2008 in Connecticut.
Samantha Horley’s London-based Lumina Films is executive producing the pic and handling worldwide sales, with CAA partnering on the sale of North American distribution rights. Jean-Luc De Fanti and Winchester Capital Partners provide finance and take exec producing credits.
Pic is the fourth collaboration between Lemore Syvan of Elevation and Miller, following “Jack and Rose,” “Personal Velocity” and “Angela.”

Girls Aloud: the modern Spice Girls? [07 Feb 2008|12:42pm]
[ mood | embarrassed ]
[ music | Killola - Hollow ]

When Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Tweedy, Sarah Harding and Nicola Roberts won the girls’ section of the U.K. reality TV talent contest Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, and then formed a group called Girls Aloud, I don’t think anyone was really expecting much from them.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

After all, the last U.K. band formed via a reality show, Hear’Say, had gone spectacularly to pieces, with public backlash and rapid disintegration within 18 months. The twist to Popstars: The Rivals was that it put together not one but two bands: Girls Aloud, and a boy band called One True Voice, who were then expected to battle it out for that year’s U.K. Christmas No. 1. Public money was on One True Voice: After all, teenage girls always have room on their walls for another boy band, whereas everyone in the U.K. knew that there hadn’t been a successful five-piece girl band since ... well, since the Spice Girls.

In the end, One True Voice came up with an awful piece of drivel called “Sacred Trust” for their first single, and Girls Aloud beat them to No. 1 with their first release, “Sound of the Underground.” Since then, the Aloud have been more successful than anyone would have predicted, achieving 17 consecutive top ten singles, three of which reached No. 1. Although not a global phenomenon like the Spice Girls, they’ve held on to success steadily for five years, without any major upsets like the loss of a band member.

Image-wise, the girls project a slightly different, more aloof and grownup vibe than the Spice Girls do, and they also play to a different demographic: less to kids, more to men’s-magazine-reading guys (alas). However, to introduce you to each band member individually, and to amuse myself, I thought I’d try pairing each Aloud Girl with her equivalent Spice Girl:

US visa dept tells Amy NO NO NO [07 Feb 2008|12:52pm]

LONDON - Amy Winehouse will not be performing at this year’s Grammy Awards because her request for a visa has been turned down by the U.S. Embassy, her publicist said Thursday.

“Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and although disappointed with the decision has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery,” The Outside Organization, which counts the troubled retro-soul sensation among its clients, said in a statement.

Winehouse shot to fame with the autobiographical single “Rehab.”

The 24-year-old singer and her acclaimed “Back to Black” album are nominated in six categories for at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Her potent blend of blues, jazz, pop and soul has won praise from critics and fans, but Winehouse has become as famous for her chaotic personal life as for her music.

Since the album’s U.S. release last year, she has canceled a slew of appearances amid reports of drug use.

Her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is in jail awaiting trial on charges of assault and lying to police.

I've made a huge mistake. [07 Feb 2008|12:53pm]
[ mood | sleepy ]
[ music | Damaged by Danity Kane ]

"Michael, call our lawyers.... "

Will Arnett has been replaced as the voice of KITT in NBC's soon-to-premiere Knight Rider TV-movie/backdoor pilot. According to Variety, though Arnett had already recorded what I am sure was some deliciously dry dialogue, it came to light that because the Arrested Development alum has done voice-over work for General Motors — and KITT is "played" by a Ford Mustang — he'd have to graciously bow out.

Val Kilmer instead will lend his pipes to the shape-shifting upgraded supercar.

source

How did NBC not know about those commercials until now? I remember them. And they're replacing him with Val Kilmer?! HIs voice is not what I'd call memorable. Get Mr. Feeny back instead at least. I don't think he's too busy these days.

Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige Plan Co-Headlined Tour [07 Feb 2008|12:55pm]
[ music | "Work That" Mary J. Blige ]

Now this is truly the best of both worlds. Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige have announced a 25-date North American co-headlining tour that will kick off on March 22 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami.

The tour, which will be called "Mary J. Blige & Jay-Z: Heart of the City," was touted in a press release as "the first time in more than 15 years that African American male/female [artists] of this stature have co-headlined a national concert tour," apparently referring to an Luther Vandross/ Anita Baker tour some years back. It will hit Boston, Philadelphia and Baltimore before swinging through New Orleans, Houston, Las Vegas and Oakland, California. The first batch of dates announced will end on April 16 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, but more dates are scheduled to be announced soon. Tickets for the first shows will go on sale on February 15.

The outing will unite the longtime friends and collaborators onstage and will be first time Jay has toured extensively in support of his 2006 comeback album, Kingdom Come, and its follow-up, last year's American Gangster.

"The [songs] we're playing are the soundtracks to people's lives," Jay-Z said in a statement, according to USA Today. "We've poured our hearts out many a night in the studio and look forward to going one step further onstage."

The current Heart of the City tour dates, according to the press release:

· 3/22 - Miami, FL @ American Airlines Arena
· 3/26 - Baltimore, MD @ 1st Mariner Arena
· 3/27 - Uniondale, NY @ Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
· 3/28 - East Rutherford, NJ @ Izod Center
· 3/30 - Philadelphia, PA @ Wachovia Center
· 4/2 - Toronto, ON @ Air Canada Centre
· 4/3 - Boston, MA @ TD Banknorth Garden
· 4/5 - Greensboro, NC @ Greensboro Coliseum
· 4/6 - Washington, DC @ Verizon Center
· 4/16 - Los Angeles, CA @ Hollywood Bowl

I wish Mary would have toured with Alicia Keys or something so it would be like "Battle of the Divas," but I guess Jay-Z's cool. I just want to hear "Just Fine" live...it's my anthem!

EW's weekly Lost article [07 Feb 2008|01:00pm]

THE BIG TEASE!
Cryptic intel about this week's episode, titled ''Confirmed Dead.'' (Ominous, huh?) The second installment of Lost's fourth season was written by Cloverfield scribe Drew Goddard and comic book superstar Brian K. Vaughan. I give you a line of their dialogue, taken from the final scene of this terrific, mythos-expanding, can't-wait-to-talk-about-it episode:

''What is the Monster?''
D'oh!

Things we should know (maybe) for tonight's episode. )

HUGS FOR HURLEY: AN INTERVIEW WITH JORGE GARCIA
Last week I expressed my big-time fondness for Hurley's story and Garcia's work in the season premiere, so I thought it would be nice to actually tell him that, plus ask him some questions, too. We chatted by phone earlier this week as word began to leak that the writers' strike may soon be over. That's good news indeed for Garcia: ''I've just been hanging out in Hawaii. It was good the first couple weeks, but boredom has begun to set in.''

DOC JENSEN: What did you think when you got the season premiere and it was all about Hurley?
JORGE GARCIA:
A little pressure. A lot of times, after a lengthy hiatus, you want to get into the swing of things a bit before you get your episode. But I was really excited, too. It was a different direction for a season premiere, and I felt the fans would probably dig it.

More Jorge and who was originally in the chair in Jacob's cabin. )

Rumor has it that there would be six more episodes this season if the strike ends this weekend. LET'S DO THIS.

the white stripes release "conquista" [07 Feb 2008|01:02pm]
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Viva Las Rayas Blancas! Viva rock'n'roll! Say hello to "Conquista", the latest single from Las Rayas Blancas, better known to us English-speaking sorts as the White Stripes.

Wait a second. Didn't the Stripes have a single with an awfully similar name not too long ago? Well, yep. But this is different: "Conquista" features Jack crooning the Patti Page classic en español, a muy bien idea if you ask me. The single, in both CD and vinyl form, hits the States February 19 from Third Man/Warner Brothers, though you may have a bit of a time finding it in the usual spots, as the disc will indeed be credited to Las Rayas Blancas. Record store employees of the world, shelf this one responsibly.

The two-track single contains "Conquista" backed by "Conquest (Versión Acústica De Mariachi)", which we're pretty sure means it's acoustic and features a mariachi band.

A Spanish language version of the totally awesome Diane Martel-directed video for the tune will premiere on the music video channel mun2 Thursday, February 7, along with an interview with Jack.

In other news from the Stripes, there's an old sample driving them a bit loco lately, an appearance in alta definición February 22, and a potentially excellente collaboration between Mr. White and Mr. Dylan in the works. Alas, no live dates are in the works appear to be in the works at the moment. Qué malo! Okay, okay, silencio. The Raconteurs are playing Coachella and Bonnaroo, though.

M.I.A. DJing Marc Jacobs afterparty Friday night in NYC

M.I.A. is DJing the after party on Friday night; she'll be front row with Victoria Beckham and Courtney Love.

Are you going to be too tired to party, dance, and scream to the music?

Because that would just be sad. Of course, if you're going to the show, you might not have a choice...

♥♥♥♥♥

She was also spotted at some fashion show for Diesel (?!) sitting near Brittany Murphy. She wore a No Limit shirt lolol. <3

Justin Chon joins the cast of Twilight [07 Feb 2008|01:10pm]
From Variety:
Justin Chon has been cast in Catherine Hardwicke's "Twilight," opposite Kristen Stewart. Chon recently completed roles in "Crossing Over" and "Ball's Out: The Gary Houseman Story."

No word on what role he'll be playing (and they put a picture of Clark Duke on the page instead of Chon), but I think he's probably going to be Jacob. And yes, he's Korean. He plays Tony in Nickelodeon's Just Jordan.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It's not an April Fools' joke, my friends--the release of SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET appears to be scheduled for April 1, 2008 in the United States and Canada, according to Hi-Def Digest.com. SWEENEY TODD will be appearing in standard DVD format and also in HD. Expect a full media announcement with information on the DVD extras in a few days. For our readers in region 2, the SWEENEY TODD DVD release in Europe is scheduled for May 19, 2008, according to Amazon.uk, and they are listing a 2-disc release, which would mean lots of extras. Amazon.uk is also advertising a release in Blu-Ray format.

The Dirty Double Standard

If, before she was committed, Britney Spears had been found dead with "oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine" (better known as OxyContin, Vicodin, Valium, Xanax, Restoril and Unisom) in her system, the media would be full of talk about a druggie ODing. When Heath Ledger's toxicology report turns up the same drugs, it's a tragic accident, and everybody makes sure to mention that he was prescribed these drugs. But what's the difference, really? None, as far as I can see.

a lot of people will probably think this is too long. )
source

i think the death of heath ledger is sad, but i also agree with this point of view.
p.s. i've been a member for a while but this is my first post & i'm a little frightened.

for the record, i don't in any way think that this article was intended to mean HEATH VS. BRITNEY in the sense that one is better than the other, but take it however you want to.

Clooney concedes Oscar to Day-Lewis [07 Feb 2008|01:37pm]

Daniel Day-Lewis’s performance in “There Will Be Blood“ has the inside chance at the Oscar.

There are some things in life that are perfect.

A San Diego summer day. Bar Rafaeli. Tiger Woods’s golf swing. The Godfather. The 2007 New England Patriots. Oh, wait.

It appears that Daniel Day-Lewis’s performance in There Will Be Blood can be added to this list. At least according to George Clooney, imdb.com reports.

Clooney, nominated for Best Actor in this year’s Oscars for his roll in Michael Clayton, concedes Oscar defeat to Day-Lewis, claiming that no one has a chance against the British actor.

Also nominated for Best Actor is Viggo Mortensen for Eastern Promises, Tommy Lee Jones for In the Valley of Elah, and Johnny Depp for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

After watching Day-Lewis in his nominated role, Clooney says, "If you want my honest opinion, I think it's going to be Daniel Day-Lewis. He sort of irritates all of us because he's so good. I'll tell you right now, I don't like him!"

The Academy Awards will air on February 24.

Stallone and Gosling, Foster, Wood or Murphy in a Bronson Remake? [07 Feb 2008|01:55pm]
It appears if I want to be in touch with the direction Sylvester Stallone wants to take his post Rambo/Rocky career I may need to brush up on my Charles Bronson flicks as he has already talked about his desire to remake Bronson's Death Wish and now Dark Horizons is saying Sly is set to star in a remake of The Mechanic and he is eyeing either Ryan Gosling, Ben Foster, Cillian Murphy and Elijah Wood along for the ride.

The original sounds a lot like Luc Besson's The Professional. The pic was released in 1972 and starred Bronson as a professional hitman who is planning to retire and has found young apprentice (Jan-Michael Vincent), but there is some confusion as to what the young man's overall goals are. Stallone would, of course, be taking on the Bronson role. There is no word on which one of the young actors mentioned above is in the running for the role of the apprentice.

Pic is set up at MGM and said to be budgeted at $40 million.

IMDb has a remake of The Mechanic listed with a screenplay penned by Shane Salerno (AVP-R). There is no director attached and no mention of Stallone and based on the plot that says it has been "reimagined as a spy thriller" it doesn't sound like the two projects are related.

Jay-Z could be returning to the corporate ranks.

We were the first to tell you, in December, that the rapper-turned-executive was likely to leave his post as Def Jam CEO after he and Island/Def Jam chief L.A. Reid failed to reach a resolution on his contract renewal.

Now we hear Jay has been huddling with Reid's rival, Warner Music Group head Lyor Cohen, to talk about starting his own label - tentatively called the Carter Music Group. (Jay's real name is Aaron Carter.)

Review of Janet's new album "Discipline" (+ pics) [07 Feb 2008|02:09pm]
I just got home from another exhilarating evening with JANET. I was one of the few hundred people who had the privilege of attending L.A. Reid's special listening event for Janet's upcoming DISCIPLINE album at the New World Stages off-Broadway theatre complex in New York.

What a night. I have so many thoughts and opinions swirling through my head. Where to begin? Note that my take on the album is only after hearing it once. I might totally change my mind on some points when I get to hear it again and again. What you read here also is only what my hands could scribble and my mind could recall.

DISCIPLINE is an album that combines an electronic 80s sound with the present-day computer age, all fit to rock your body on a dance floor near you. This is mostly a dance album which will be your aerobic workout soundtrack for the year. Computer-driven beats and sounds from the streets buttress Janet's light and playful voice through emotions of love lost, love found, and love sustained to the fullest. What else could you want in a Janet album?

After standing in line outside for about 40 minutes, the event began with a pre-reception in the lobby. We all received souvenir DISCIPLINE lyric booklets wrapped in a black, 4-flap envelopment, with a dark red plastic seal stamped with a "J". This was very helpful because it meant I didn't have to try to write excerpts of lyrics down, but I still had to scramble to get lyrics to the interludes down, which were not always complete.

The lobby was decorated with huge black-and-white Janet photos plastered on drapes and on the walls. We drank banana and blueberry rum smoothies and ate hors d'oeuvres until they let us inside Stage 1 for the listening event (the complex has five or more small theatres for off-Broadway productions). My second row center seat was the perfect place to see and hear everything, especially since I had received word that Janet would definitely be in the house. Later, I'll tell you about Janet's grand entrance.

L.A. Reid entered the stage just after 7:30 p.m. and said a simple hello and quickie introduction--nothing more needed to be said! The lights dimmed and the "Janet" logo on the video screen was replaced by a 5-minute or so promotional video (or possibly the official electronic press kit or E.P.K.) of past photos, music video footage and concert footage. The video was dazzling (especially for a fan) and serves to reestablish who she is and her impact on the music industry and the world. When the video was over, the room erupted in applause. On the screen we then saw "Janet" and "Discipline" logos interspersed with black-and-white photos from the past and present (yes, new ones), all treated with a vintage film effect of lines and blemishes, as we heard…

Not fot the tl;dr crew )

Angelina Jolie Ruined Lunch For 'Hills' Couple [07 Feb 2008|02:21pm]

Angelina Jolie ruined a romantic lunch for The Hills lovebirds Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt when she shut down their favorite restaurant for a meal with her kids.

The movie star asked staff at Los Angeles' Il Pastaio to close the restaurant and refuse anyone entrance so she could dine in peace on January 27, according to Life & Style.

And so, when former engaged couple Pratt and Montag turned up and tried to get past doormen, they were told the restaurant was closed.

The puzzled pair chose another favorite resta
