Agyeman nominated for award, Barrowman talks fetishes & Marsters may return to Torchwood


The star-studded annual Screen Nation Film and TV Awards will return to London's West End on October 15th 2007, at the Hilton London Metropole.

June Sarpong (also nominated in the Presenting category), Trisha Goddard, Jocelyn Jee-Esien and Freema Agyeman will battle it out in the Favourite Female TV star category.

John Barrowman talks Torchwood with AfterElton.com



AfterElton.com: The “Captain Jack Harkness” episode of the first season of Torchwood was a great, unapologetically gay episode with men expressing love for one another. As an out gay man who is married to his partner, how was that episode to film?

John Barrowman: It was good. It was emotional. The whole fact that the guy he loves is going to go off and die and Jack takes his name made it emotional. Also, the period it was set in, because a lot of the older people have said they didn't do that [engage in homosexuality] in their day. No, actually they did, they just didn't talk about it. That's like saying, “We didn't have suicide in our day.” My response is to tell them to shut up because they did, but they just didn't talk about it. It was touching on material that was there and not being dealt with at the time and it was a romantic episode and I think it worked beautifully.



AE: There's a Captain Jack figure for Doctor Who, so would you like to see Torchwood toys?
JB: We can't have Torchwood toys because we can't market to children, because it's an adult show. [Laughs] We could do Torchwood [lists assorted sex toys].

AE: Are we going to see more of Captain Jack's past in series two of Torchwood?
JB: Yes, you will. You will definitely. Without telling you what, there are things revealed in series three of Doctor Who that will be reiterated in the second series of Torchwood.

AE: Are you ever going to kiss David Tennant?
JB: I don't know. [Smiles mischievously] I haven't yet … on the TV series.

AE: Would you like to see Captain Jack settle down with a nice man?
JB: Captain Jack might settle down with a nice man in series two, but which man that will be I can't tell you.

AE: So is the affair he had with Ianto last season still in the running?
JB: I don't know … maybe.

AE: I would like to see Jack and Owen hook up. That would be an interesting switch on the relationship.
JB: Would you? Well you never know, it just might happen. One thing about all of the boys in Torchwood: we're all well balanced. We're all omni-sexual. We all realized the other day when we were changing that we were all “well proportioned” and we have decided that is a criteria for all males who come to the show. The girls have to have big boobs and the boys have to have big … egos.

AE: Let's get back to the kissing David Tennant question. You kissed Christopher Eccleston. So would David do a kiss?JB: I kissed Christopher because Jack was going off to die and that was a love for the Doctor as a person, but I think now Captain Jack does fancy David's Doctor. It's revealed in series three of Doctor Who because Martha Jones says something about liking the Doctor and I turn to her and say something to the effect of “Oh, you too?” So it's clearly out there. But I don't think they will kiss.

AE: I think for fans it's a toss up between whom to lust after more: you or David Tennant.
JB: Well, they can do both! There's nothing wrong with that. [Laughs] You know what David's nickname is? Well, let's just say the Doctor would fit in with the men on Torchwood.

AE: How many seasons will it take the entire Torchwood team to shag each other, since everyone got a bit of a start this last season?
JB: Five. [Laughs] No, I think it'll happen before then. Some of the characters might die before then, though.

Marsters back for more Torchwood?



The former primetime face of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" recently told fans at Dragon*Con in Atlanta that his one-time appearance on the "Doctor Who" spinoff might not be one time after all, according to TorchwoodTV. Marsters may return for a later episode this season, but the acrtor is not confirming anything until such an appearance is finalized with the powers that be.

"I cannot confirm or deny anything about my character on 'Torchwood,'” Marsters told the convention crowd. “But I thought Spike was nasty ... that was nothing. And they opened my eyes over in Wales, I gotta say. I mean at first I was all freaked out ‘cause this dude playing Jack, he’s like all sexy on the set and everything. And I didn’t really realize we’d be playing these Time Agent characters who’ll have sex with anything, like any thing with a hole! I’m serious.”



”The first day I was like freaked out, ‘Oh God help me,’" Marsters said. "Then I got into my character and I got to understand my character and everything. And the lead character Jack goes -- he drives up in this beautiful red car -- and he goes, ‘I almost did the car.' And by this time I was totally comfortable with it and I knew that he was in character and I said ‘Well, that shiny metal is winking at you … I’d do her, too … where ‘d ya take her?’ and he said ‘Up the gas station.’ I mean like he didn’t really do that but I looked at the SUV and it’s like, 'James, steady there.'

”But it’s like, yeah, that’s a very English show,” he added. “Cut! Yeah I’m a little more comfortable with myself now."

Barrowman admits to a leather fetish



"I have a fetish for leather that I've never lived out. I would like to be blindfolded and guided in a room, with everyone else in chaps, in harnesses and slings, and just — I'm a control freak. So I'd be taken out of my control zone. If anybody out there would like to arrange it, give me a ring...But sometimes fantasies should remain fantasies. [My partner Scott Gill and I] are kind of conservative in that way."
