freelancing?

i lost my job recently and i think that i'd like to give freelance web work a shot, i have a strong portfolio and the skills to pay the bills but i'm understandably hesitant.

are there any books or sites that i can read up on that offer tips/advice/insight? i don't really know what to do when it comes to invoicing or how much to charge, etc.. i mean i know i could figure it out on my own, but i wanted to check to see if anybody knew of any resources, or if anybody has any ideas/advice.

thank you very much and enjoy the football today! :)

okay so i have an email address at mylastname.com

email there goes to paidforemailservice.com and forwards a copy to my gmail account

i'd like to switch to gmail altogether and stop paying

currently paidforemailservice.com has mylastname.com's dns records configured to do everything

my question is, what is the best way to set it up so mylastname.com mail forwards to my gmail account efficiently and in the best way possible?

the domain is registered with name.com and i can't seem to find anything within their settings

--

i could go through my hosting for mylastname.com - but is this the best way? what if my site/hosting goes down, will my email be down too?

also has anybody made the transition over to gmail? i'm nervous to do so, i've been using the other service since the late 90s.

thanks everybody so much, you're all so helpful here.

I have an olympus IR-500. I've searched the internet for sites on what I'm going to ask.
I'm no photographer, but I carry my camera around with me most places and adore taking snap shots. I live in the UK and I'm taking A level photography next year in college.

I need tips/a guide on how to explore with my camera more with it's settings. I've looked in the intructions, and it doesn't tell me anything about the settings.
I need to know what my camera is actually capable of doing & how I can take better photos, you know? Because I know I'm not letting it reach it's full potential.

This is a link to a site about my camera: http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/29_Digital_Camera_IR-500.htm

Agh please help :(

This might be a long shot, but I've noticed that there are people on RMO that are into digital art and the such.

My question is this:

I have a mac mini. I have installed the Adobe Creative Suite and the Microsoft office software on it since I've gotten it. I have some projects and some pictures saved on it. I know that I bought it with atleast 1GB. I could check if its necessary for more info.

My applications run sooo slow. The icons bounce forever and then it takes a few seconds for tools in the applications (especially Illustrator and Photoshop) to do what they are supposed to do. Is there a disk cleanup on macs like there is on PCs? This computer is basically brand new and should not be acting this slow.

Thanks to anyone that has any suggestions or answers.

design my club's shirt?

is anyone interested in designing me a shirt?

i'm part of the interact club in my high school. we're a community service club filled with students who volunteer our time to work on projects and partake in events that help others.

there's not much in it for you, except that you'd get your design printed and worn by 50-100 members. and a free shirt sent your way. and a bigbig hug of appreciation from me.

the only requirements are that it includes:
"interact club"
"silver creek high school"
" '06-'07 "(optional)
our motto, "service above self"
and our logo:

our club colors are blue and yellow/gold, but the shirt doesn't have to follow that.

if anyone is interested, i'd be extreeeeeemely grateful, as i suck at designing stuff, and i don't know anyone who can.
CALLING ILLUSTRATORS, GRAPHIC DESIGNERS AND CREATIVE WRITERS
I want to exhibit your work to the hip young gunslingers of Manchester, UK in the firstPAPERBOMB PROJECT.
The first Paperbombing will be at a Mind On Fire club night, featuring UK live acts, local dj's, art installations, pre-recorded visuals and live visuals. More information on MOF and the April 3rd event can be found here:
www.myspace.com/mindonfirecollective
To get involved you must email me your illustrated work/graphics, or original writing which could be a short article, poem, piece of prose, lyrics, commentary or simply a story you'd like to tell. You can submit as many pieces as you like, but! EACH PIECE MUST FIT ON ONE SHEET OF PAPER WHEN PRINTED OUT, AND BE EFFECTIVE IN BLACK AND WHITE.
All work will be scaled down to A6 size and photocopied hundred of times, similar to show flyers. They will be distributed around the venue, in their hundreds, making huge mess. Obviously, your work will not be presented at its highest quality due to cheap photocopying, but we aim to maintain the quality as best we can. Line drawings will reproduce best, artwork with lots of different hues and dark areas will be more difficult. Your words or art will end up on the floor, in bins or ashtrays, it will be trodden on or ripped up and used for roach material. BUT, someone may pick up a sheet and be inspired by it. Many will be kept and taken home. You might live on another continent but something you wrote or drew could be pinned to someone's bedroom wall in the UK, or in someone's wallet kept as a memento, or could inspire further work. Someone might just pick it up and study it, muse over it for maybe a minute or so. But this is the idea.
I want your work to tell a story or put across an idea. The concept is that at each Paperbombing, thousands of stories from all across the world will be floating around. It takes art out from behind glass in art galleries, it takes words off pages in expensive books, it takes it directly to the people, it is art to be shared and appreciated collectively.
If you are interested, please email me your work:
deathofadiscodancer_@hotmail.com
For your own benefit, please include your email address and the copywright symbol somewhere on your piece. Although it is ok if you'd like to remain anonymous, this addition will protect your original ideas and also allow people who were touched by your work to contact you.

please get in touch by comment or email!
apologies to the mods if this post is innapropriate.

Lil

pretty broad topic, but i'm a very paranoid and worrysome high school junior right now.

1. which school do you go to? do you like it?
2. what should i watch out for (portfolio wise)?
3. are art schools real difficult to get in?

i don't know, i'm real pessimistic about my acceptance rate. =\

i would love to get as much feedback as possible though to ease my worries. & thank you all in advance. :)

hey guys, i reallly need your help. i have a photography project due and need your help. it's supposed to be an introspective self portrait, which is basically a self portrait that instead of taking a picture of yourself, you show in pictures who you are on the inside. obviously, none of you know me, but i need questions to ask myself and i need inspiration, i have a block! thanks so much.
