Hello *waves* My name is Erin. I'm a fan of Chicago's and Trixie and i followed them here in an entirely non-stalker like fashion. S'true. Anyway, I've started something of an epic length fic but as most of my friends are GW and PoT fans i don't have much of an audience for my DC fic. The fic is posted in order on my writing lj under the name dyslexic_kid. I am as advertised, meaning i am actually dyslexic but if you can get past that (i don't have a beta but i'm looking!) it's a fairly good read. Well according to my friends who don't know much about DC anyway. *coughs* so i was hoping that i could entice some of you wonderful, beautiful, fantastic (to much?) people to mosey on over and take a look and let me know what you think. It's slash, male/male. I want to try and keep the main pairing a surprise, mainly b/c i don't think you'll read it if i tell you o.O but if you won't read it unless you know drop me a line at erinn.go.braugh@gmail.com and i will tell all. There is a Robin/Superboy side pair. It's based on the DC Comic Universe. If anyone has any more question please feel free to e-mail me at the above address. Thanks guys, i really appreciate it.

12:53 pm - Updates! (belatedly)

Uh, oops.
Yes, there have been updates to the offpanel page!
New menu page -- added Tangerine, placeholders for Benway and SKH, and Leah's memorial page: http://offpanel.net/menu.html
Updated the sitemap.
Put up Leah's page.
Updated the Tempest page.
Updated the Batwoman page, for what that's worth.
Nika and Smitty are constantly adding SGA content to their pages, and nw's chick/trixie adds anime/manga-based fic to her page on what seems like a daily basis. Check 'em out!

Since none of the relevant parties are going to say anything here... It's been an eventful time at Stately Offpanel Manor.
smittywing and kerithwyn both got recced over on crack_van, 'Rith for Spøkelse (DCU) and Smitty for The Brendan Hypothesis (SGA). Both of them were holy terrors very cute while writing them, so public recognition is nice to see in that "I told you so" way.
kerithwyn has been rather prolific of late, knocking off Welcome to Arkham (which should be posted over on comics_genfic), Drought and its addendum, and Superfluidity over the last month. Read and enjoy. Because this lady hordes fic like Mr. Burns does money. Feel free to nag her about finishing more stories. Really -- she loves it when you do that.
And, of course, sevenall completed her WIP, the nine-months-in-production delight, Selma.

http://www.newcomicreviews.com/cgi-bin/eAuction161/eAuction.pl?lang=1 I have been going to any LJ community that has anything to do with comics trying to spread the word about this auction. The deal is you go to this link, you bid on awesome comic books and other such stuff and the best part is every dime you drop helps people get food, water and medical attention. If you don't see anything you like tell some of your friends, because there is something for everyone (well, except for you apperently if you looked but couldn't find anything so you told a friend)

8:50 pm - Smittyworld Update!
|

smittywing
|
Thanks to kerithwyn kicking my butt and coding a gazillion things for me, Smittyworld has been partially updated. There are now five new fics up, all of which have been on LJ at once time or another.
Five Things That Never Happened to Jack Knight, which borrows from the Five Things That Aren't True phenomenon.
Christmas in Blüdhaven which is this year's holiday project -- 23 double-drabbles capped off by one 500-word ficlet addressing the move of Robin and Batgirl to Blüdhaven.
Past Is Prologue, more of a mini-fic that ties into the recent JSA storyline.
Birds of a Feather which explores how Tim Drake's life would have turned out if he'd been mentored by Black Canary instead of Batman. Part of the Timfinity challenge.
En Passant, and exploration of what happnened to Sasha Bordeax after the events of Bruce Wayne: Fugitive, Firebrand II after All-Star Squadron, Empress after Graduation Day, and Vixen, after various things but most likely before the recent Birds of Prey storyline. Written for kerithwyn for the Four-Color Heroines challenge.

9:54 am - What is obscure?
|

kerithwyn
|
Random thinky, based on the new comica_obscura community.
Who's obscure? If occurred to me after I posted a big offpanel recs list that some of those characters...perhaps aren't. There's well over a hundred Tempest fics on our site...but they're all by one obsesso fan and those she's roped into doing her bidding. ;-) The character himself is still "obscure" as far as canon and general reader knowledge is concerned, but is Tempest fic still obscure with that output, even if it's all from one crooked perspective?
What about the other way? (As Nika points out) Kyle Rayner and Aquaman aren't obscure as far as their canon appearances go, but they don't appear often in fic.
--actually, the first c_o post mentions that "Obscure" will be defined in terms of quantity of fic, not character popularity. Which means, by definition, that Garth and J'onn fic isn't obscure, while Kyle and Arthur fic would be. That's just odd to contemplate. :)
Discuss.

I'm even MORE thrilled to welcome a new member to the harem site: the talented and lovely sevenall has come on board bearing her singular brand of brilliant and insightful fic. Check her out!
Also new, the Tempest archive for all your--okay, MY--Garth-fic needs.
Thanks to all readers and my cohorts for patience and extra-special thanks to smittywing for doing the heavy lifting on the menu. :)
* As far as I can tell; please let me know if there are still access problems. Also, there is going to be a diligent dead-and-broken link search occurring this weekend, so hang tight.

kerithwyn, hope I'm not trampling toes doing this but you went away and I'm all that's left. :)
Offpanel.net is currently in the process of having its files moved between hosts. Accessibility will be sketchy for about the next 24 hours as we shuttle stuff over. I'm hoping the main page will be accessible by sometime tomorrow morning, but the menu may be inoperable and the individual pages are returning to full strength as the appropriate admin gets to them.
Please bear with us and we'll let you know when we're viewable once more. Thanks for all your support.

Just a quick note before back to DEADLINE.
I know that various folks have had offpanel.net access problems, but the site is still there. The thing is, I never know when there's a problem because I always seem to be able to reach the site. The site provider is aware of the issue but hasn't been able to pinpoint a cause yet.
If you can't reach the site, drop a note here; I'd like to get an idea of how widespread the problem is.

|

|
I'm sitting here telling miss_porcupine about nightmare Denny's encounters and listening to Barenaked Ladies "Maroon" and it occurs to me that I totally want to write on the Star-Spangled Roadtrip story. Somehow, "Maroon" (and probably "Rock Spectacle" and "Stunt" if I wasn't too lazy to pull them out) have become my Star-Spangled Roadtrip soundtrack. Matchbox Twenty's "Mad Season" is my The Story of Dinah and Bruce music. I used to listen to the City of Angels soundtrack when I was writing and Blondie and Pat Benetar are always good stuff when I write Birds of Prey.
Does anyone else have stories with soundtracks, songs I should listen to when I read them, or am I the only freak of nature around here? ;)

Comic Fic needs some more challenges. I thought of this the other day and figured I'd toss it out there. Feel free to pass it around.
The Billy Joel Title Challenge.
Now, I'm not asking for Songfic. Just stories with Billy Joel songs as the title. A complete list of song titles can be found HERE. If you write one, leave a comment linking back to your fic in an LJ or a webpage or something so I can make a catalogue of them later. Feel free to post wherever, it's not a contest, and there's no judging or prizes--all for fun.
Feel free to link back to this or pimp around on your own if you wish.
I'll probably write more, but as an example, something I wrote several years ago:

Since I have this awesome resource at my fingertips and my comics are buried under something heavy...
Can anyone tell me the name of Jack Knight's mother and the song that was playing when David Knight died? It's something by...Little Anthony and the Imperials? I think?
I'm writing a story and I don't have the first trade available, which is where I think the song trivia comes from. In one of the later issues (69?) I thought it was said that Ted Knight's old girlfriend Doris had the same name as his wife, but the Starman Compendium lists Jack's mother's name as Adele. So I thought I'd see if anyone knew.
Thanks in advance for any answers!
PS: Oh, and um, if it's ever apparent which building David's standing on when he becomes Mortally Challenged? Much appreciated.

...Nika left. I'm bored. Shut up.
You all know, because I can't stop whining about it, that I'm working on The Reception Fic That Never Ends And That Also Has No Title. Not touching anything else until that's done. Once it is, I should finish off one of the outstanding smaller fics--like the Donna/Tula or the JAWR outtake (only, what, three years after the fact? Urgh). Two Men's Land is on the list when I can face the FS universe without cringing again.
Contrary to what Nika might tell you, I am not currently nor do I have plans to write Roy/Kyle. Anyone else, however, is welcome to. Alternatively, go read Lianne's version again.
What's at the top of your list? Babble at whim. :)
Hey, has anyone told Darklady about this yet? Not sure if she frequents LJ or not, but she should be here.
Also, unless anyone objects, I'm going to close the offpanel messageboard at the end of this week and replace it with a message/redirect to this community.
