Is it possible to delete a Paypal account and then open a new one from the same email address with a different name?

I changed my name and obviously had to get new bank cards in the new name. I've emailed Paypal my change of name certificate and passport scan and done everything they say on the website but they haven't even acknowledged it, and

not enjoying uni [16 Nov 2009|04:18pm]

scarie_fairie
has anyone dropped out of uni in the first few months & reapplied for the next year?
i started at leeds uni this september & i'm really not enjoying it. i have friends, but i feel very "southern" & just don't feel like i entirely fit in :(
has anyone found this in their first year but then enjoyed it later on? i don't know whether to stick it out in the hope that it may get better when i know that i could end up regrettng this if i leave it too late to apply for next year.
thanks :)

Hobbies! [16 Nov 2009|01:13pm]

suzyvalentine
So, I need something to occupy myself; I work part time in retail, am struggling to find a full time job after uni and all my pals are 9-5 office types. When I'm off work I'm increasingly bored and feel like I'm wasting my life away staring a computer screen. All in all, I think it's time for a new hobby! Something to keep me occupied and interesting!

What sort of things are you guys into and what hobbies do you have? Even just a general interest will do? I'm looking for inspiration! I fancy trying my hand at something a bit different but the place where I live isn't exactly known for it's fun and varied forms of opportunity!

New Year's Eve at Edinburgh? [16 Nov 2009|01:14am]

biginjapan
Has anybody spent New Year's Eve in Edinburgh before? My friend is coming over from Paris from December 28th to January 2nd and I have NO idea what to do with him! I usually just sit in the house on the 31st and maybe watch Jools Holland but he really wants to do something good... I live near Newcastle* but don't really fancy spending the night there & my friend wants to go to Scotland while he's over here too so it's a kind of two-birds-with-one-stone thing.

Anyway, have any of you been? Specifically, has/is anybody been/going to the Hogmanay Street Party? & also does anybody know any problems that could arise in not getting anywhere to stay for the night and just bumming around until the first train back? :-)

Thank you ♥

*If anyone has suggestions as to what I could do in the north east instead I'll gladly take them! I just don't want to spend a bazillion pounds getting a taxi back from town on the 1st :-(

Paris Hostel [15 Nov 2009|11:39pm]

papertoad
Can anyone reccomend a nice hostel in paris for my stay next weekend?! I'll book it tomorrow.
It has to be:
in a central location near a metro
have a private double/twin room
be under 50 euros a night pp
be in a not so dodgy area.

Thanks guys!

Oh and has anyone stayed here before: http://www.hostelbookers.com/property/index.cfm?fuseaction=accommodation.search&isdynamic=1&strsearchby=destination&straccommodationtype=hostels&intdestinationid=1069&strdestination=paris&strdestinationparent=&intnights=2&intpeople=1&dtearrival=21%2f11%2f2009&intpropertyid=25003
Is it centrally located? I dont want to waste precious time in paris faffing about with transport!

Digital Cameras... again :) [15 Nov 2009|08:58pm]

pocket_slam
I made a post on here a while ago about buying a DSLR... after researching heavily from all of your advice I decided that it wouldn't be worth getting one because the cost was too great for how much use I would get out of it for personal use, and I wanted other presents at christmas than just the one camera (can't help myself!) So instead I've decided to get just a normal compact digital camera... but now I am stumped as to what is best on the market. I currently have a Canon and I am not the biggest fan. I'm in need of the camera having a super zoom as I attend many *fan* events where a zoom would come in handy a lot, so I presume that is what the optical zoom amount is? My current canon goes blurry when I currently have it on a relative zoom, it is also bad taking pictures without the flash, which I quite like doing a lot.... I think I've been right in hearing that probably the better brand ones are the Panasonic Lumix and the Sony Cybershot, is this correct? If you agree with this, can you recommend me a good model of these cameras, or just back up my knowledge so I know I can get these brands? Anything between £100-200 is fine, or if you own a different camera which you think sounds perfect (great zoom, steady handy features that kind of thing!) can you recommend them to me? Sorry to ask so much but I'm stumped and dont want to end up getting a camera that doesn't do what I want and theres no photography shops near me I can go in and ask for advice! Thanks everyone (again!)

nostalgia party! [15 Nov 2009|07:14pm]

marauded
i've finally decided to have my 21st in my house at home with my college friends, a small affair.

but, most of them have never been here before and i'm at a loss as to what (vegetarian) food to supply (about 15 ppl) and how to decorate the house, obviously it will be around christmas (dec 30th) so the tree etc will be up, but i want to make the place looks as sophisticated as possible.

do you have any suggestions/examples of how you catered for a house party and how you decorated, any inspiration will be very much welcomed!

The theme I'm drawn to the most is 'nostalgia', so lots of 80s/90s/early noughties songs, board games - how could i spice up the party games we were used to as a kid? (remember pass the parcel?) and people will be staying over after traveling for around 2-3 hours so dressing up would be an issue.

i'm going to stick pictures of me as a kid, a tween, a teen etc on the walls ^^

i'm sorry if this post is a little vague, even just post pictures of the best house party/21st you've been to?

thanks :)

x-posted.

Good quality foundation? [15 Nov 2009|06:31pm]

sparklyllama
[ mood | curious ]

After months of being skint and using crappy cheap foundation, I finally have some spare cash to buy some decent foundation. Yay!

Only problem is, it's been so long since I bought any that I have no idea which ones are any good, which ones are best avoided, or how much any of them cost, so I was hoping you guys could give me some recommendations! I'm prepared to spend about 20 quid, and I prefer liquid foundation (although I do also like Benefit's Playstick).

Any help would be appreciated! xxx

Does anyone know somewhere other than eBay that I could sell a laptop? It works just fine, I just happened to treat myself to a new (pink) one, and it seems a bit of a waste. I've never sold anything on eBay before, so I think I'd struggle to sell something expensive without any feedback.

Any ideas?

sorry for the boring question but does anyone know when one is able to upgrade their phone whilst in a 24month contract? i am 16-17 months through a 24month contract with orange and would really like a new handset but i have never been on contract &upgraded before so i dont know much about the process. what would normally be the earliest that i would be able to change my phone and when upgrading, do you normally hand in the old phone? i did phone orange and they said i could not upgrade until may (which will be 22 months into my contract - does that make sense?) they werent very helpful. my friend managed to upgrade during her contract without problems and was really surprised that i couldnt do the same. apologies for cluelessness. thank you. Also what is Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle like? Is it really heavy?

lastminute.com - booking flights and hotels. Help please? [14 Nov 2009|08:55pm]

fairy_scarsx
Me and the boyfriend are planning to go Tokyo in March 2010

Tues 9th- Tues 16th.

Its our first time doing this, booking and going on holiday without family...

We found a deal on lastminute.com
Which sounds very good.
Around £1300 something...for return flights and hotel. (thats for two of us)

this is the hotel
Shinjuku Washington Hotel

Has anyone ever stayed there?

Also; it says the baggage costs are not included, does anyone knows how this works? do we just pay on check in? how about on the way back from Japan to England.. do we pay again? Im a bit confused... also do we pay when we stop off aswell for baggage? im so confused!
Roughly how much is baggage per bag/ what is the max limit? and also anyone have an updated plan of what we can bring etc with the whole shampoo thing? or is it okay to bring whole bags of shampoo as long as its in suitcase

Also; how was your experience with lastminute.com? are they reliable? Sorry for so many questions but its alot of money so better to ask.

It's all very scary... I don't even know how airports work... : S

O.K so I was wondering if anyone else had been in this situation, or could offer me some advice.

When I was in my first and second year of Uni, I became incredibly close friends with this one girl. She's one of the cleverest people I have ever met, and quickly became probably the best friend I have ever had. I was in the year below her though, and when she graduated, she moved back to her home town and settled down with her boyfriend. Since then, I've hardly heard from her. I have serious issues with talking on the phone, and she doesn't use the internet. We've basically fallen completely out of touch with each other. I feel really guilty about it because she has tried to call me in the past but my phone phobia prevented me from picking up the damn phone. I'm so sad not to have her in my life any more. I'm so scared of picking up the phone and calling her though, I keep thinking she will be annoyed with me for not being in contact, or we'll have a really akward conversation. But I really miss her!

Also can I get a roll call for anyone else in alone on a saturday night? I've got a stomach ache and have resigned myself to The X Factor and my cats

Lacking inspiration [14 Nov 2009|05:34pm]

elouberx
Hello everyone,

Needed a little bit of a rant after yet another unsuccessful shopping trip today, and thought you lovely people on 'OTHS' would be nice enough to let me do so!

I'm basically stuck in a rut at the moment fashion wise and just kind to seem to find anything I like or indeed want on the high street! Everything's very 80's at the moment, which don't get me wrong can look amazing on others, but rubbish on me, and it's also not very practical for a girl of 17 who spends 5 days at Sixth Form and 2 days either working, socializing or lazing about!

Im usually one of those shoppers that buys anything I like and have the money for and then hope that I have something to match with it in my wardrobe, which is usually not the case. But at the moment I just cant find anything and it's really starting to get me down!

I love Alexa Chung's style, and spend countless hours on sights like lookbook.nu, THS and fashion blogs admiring others outfits, yet cna never seem to work out my own! In terms of designers I love Chanel (Karl Lagerfeld is a genius), Philip Lim and Luella, but have neither the budget nor the locations to wear their clothes! I have thought about maybe trying out a Stylist service in places like Topshop, but always feel that I'd get pushed into buying stuff I didn't really want, and plus despite the fact I have money saved up to spend, I always feel that I wouldn't get enough for the money!

Has anyone got any shread of advice for me, because it would be really appreciated.

Thank you all in advance!

Has anyone bought back issues of ELLE from their website? If so, are they subscriber's edition covers? My subscription ran out before I realised I'd missed an issue, and I have two years worth of subscriber's editions! I hate to see a gap in my little collection.

starting a blog [14 Nov 2009|11:13am]

petitfaon
As I've been having a bit of a crap time of it lately, I've been thinking about starting a blog to give me something to do and to practise my writing. I'm happy with coding, webhosts etc., but blogging platforms and so on are not something that I know much about! So I have a few questions if any of you bloggers/blog-readers out there would mind answering any/all of them :)

If you have your own blog:
- How often do you update?
- What do you write about?
- How do you gain a readership?
- Which blogging platform do you use? Your own hosted site, or somewhere like Blogspot/LJ/Tumblr?
- Do you use some kind of program like Wordpress? If so, what do you feel the benefits are?
- and finally, please link me to your blog :)

If you read other people's blogs:
- What are your favourite blogs & what do you like about them that keeps you coming back? Links please!
- What do you like to read about most? Fashion, cooking, day-to-day life..?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Also, does anyone know an ebay/etsy seller who sells hats like this, that aren't so... big? There was a perfect one in River Island. Its on the website on the first page of hats, 'popcorn beret.' I want a red or black one :)

being an artiste [13 Nov 2009|08:31pm]

tinkcupcake
does anyone have any idea on how to get private galleries (you know the ones that sell paintings) to display your work? do they choose you? do you approach them?
I am quite successful in selling my commissioned works to people, but I would like to use some of my time developing my style using the funds from my commissioned pieces to fund larger "works of art" that I would like private galleries to display and sell for me.
I am not just a "I have decided to paint, buy my sh*t paintings" kind of person, I actually have a degree in fine art but due to my circumstances when I graduated I went straight into full time work and never toyed with the "practicing artist" idea in the slightest... but now obviously circumstances have changed hence the random question

Sorry for the irritating post, but I was wondering if anyone had any ffffound.com or lookbook.nu invites going spare? I had a lookbook one, but for some reason it deleted my account and I got nowhere with contacting the owners, so I gave up, but my tutors say it's a good idea to have places to collect and collate inspiration, and printing everything I find out is ridiculously expensive and therefore not viable on a student budget, my photobucket(s) are all but full, and my flickr I use as a portfolio, so I'm getting myself as many little homes on the net as I can.

Any help would be much appreciated!

The pill+antibiotics [13 Nov 2009|07:01am]

xthisgirlx
I know I should just go to a doctor, and i probably will in a few days but i'm in France which makes it all the more difficult. I was prescribed a french antibiotic and had someone translate what the doctor was saying but they didn't say anything about the pill and a week or so a go i found out that antibiotics can interfere with the pill. Some of my friends say they have taken both medications together, unaware, and it's been fine but obviously i'm still worried, and being abroad is making me more panicky.

Any experiences with this?

Edit: The reason i said i was 'worried' was to imply that i had already had sex without other protection. So i was wondering if anyone had used antibiotics and the pill without protection and NOT gotten pregnant. Although from your responses it seems none of you have been as silly as me.

Discussion: Quality vs Quantity? [13 Nov 2009|10:44am]

miss_emmajane
For the last year I have been trying to focus on quality clothing and accessories now and again rather than lots of low quality clothing all of the time. I have bought two items from Primark in the last year, one an amazing sequin sleeved tee which I adore and have got some cheaper bits from eBay now and again as I am loosing weight so need some bits to put me on 'till I go down the next size.

However I really believe in quality rather than quantity as although say Falke tights are £22, the amount of Primark tights that you would go through in the time that those Falke tights last would probably be near, the same or over the £22 anyway. Plus, I have to say I just like having nice things and aside from the odd highstreet buy such as the Primark sequin top and a few H&M things I get my excitement from high end clothing and accessories.

I wish I could afford designer clothing as I can high street but I save for a bit to get something I love rather than buy ten things right away which I don't care for very much. I also don't like cheap make-up and won't buy high street make-up anymore as once I had used higher end I couldn't take myself back aside from mascara as I have yet to find a high end mascara better than what you can get in Boots.

Opinions?
