[Current Mood | awake]

I found these at the thrift store a few days ago. Their expressions seem to say, "I've just seen something disgusting!", yet they are a festive, cheery color. So, they are my Disgusted Tropical Octopus earrings!

Hello, :) I am a painter and writer currently tinkering with dolls of my children's storybook cephalod characters (some paintings of which I've posted here before). I've finished some of the dolls, so I thought this would be a good place to post some pictures of them, :)

Aquarium visit. [Mar. 11th, 2009|02:16 pm]

radioohgirl
I have really good luck with aquarium octopi. It seems like every time I visit an aquarium the octopus knows it and comes out to say hello. <3

I have a few pics and even a video for you all to enjoy under the cut.

The video is still uploading (go dialup) so I'll edit this post when it's done.

The Hatchery [Feb. 24th, 2009|12:01 pm]

This is the last in my space cuttlefish series. There is three in all. I like the idea of giant cuttlefish attaching their eggs to moons and comets to colonize space with their awesomeness.
Someone last time asked if they were for sale. They are now, in my etsy shop at http://lizzelizzel.etsy.com .
They're 35 dollars each, which I think is pretty reasonable.
Thanks for looking!

I love this video because the octopus looks so friendly. To me, it looks like he's frolicking around the bottom of the ocean looking for a friend. And when he sees the camera, he playfully moves away insisting on the camera man to follow him, so that he can show off his his underwater home.

Maybe I thought too much into this. The music sure helped give me the playful vibe.
Gotta go to class!

Monster Mondays- Dumbo Octopus [Feb. 9th, 2009|06:52 pm]

boju

dumbo-octopus, originally uploaded by Boju.

Today Dapper Cadaver's Monster Monday Blog dives down to the bottom of the sea for one of the strangest, and rarest creatures on earth- the Dumbo Octopus.

They live all over the world in depths of 12,000 feet and below. They've discovered new species of them as recently as 2007 and while most are 20cm and below, some grow to over 5 feet. If you're in Sarasota, Florida, then I highly recommend visiting the Mote Marine Laboratory which is offering lectures and encounters with their favorite sea monsters, including the dancing pink elephant with the weird ear-wings, the dumbo elephant.

More Dumbo Octopi including a video of octopi in flight and a cartoon featuring the proper use of a naughty tentacle after the jump

I know this doesn't have anything to do with octopi (specifically), but has anyone ever heard of The Octopus Project? They're SUCH a sweet band and it's no surprise that they chose the best animal of the bunch to name their music after!

Cool post over at SeaWayBLOG!

Yes, I realize I am kind of pimping this place. The photos are awesome and more than make up for when he does posts on sailboat racing (something I am not altogether interested in).
