Twin Peaks is David Lynch's surrealistic vision of a small town in the Pacific Northwest full of secrets, intrigue, mystery, and supernatural forces that seep into our world from both a Black Lodge and a White Lodge. There is much spiritualism, spiritualism, and esoteric content sprinkled within the framework of a melodrama.

We will be starting with the Pilot movie to be followed by episodes of the series on future Film, Food, Forum Nights.

The following message is forwarded from this week's host of Film, Food, Forum (FFF), which will take place Friday at 7:30pm, 1409 SE Stark St. BYO snacks & drinks.

"Freedom of will is the highest human good; and it is impossible to have both that freedom and an intervening divinity.... The separate games of chess I play with existence have different rules from your and every other game; the only similarity is that each of our games always has rules. The gifts, inherited and acquired, that are special to me are the rules of the game; and the situation I am in at any given moment is the situation of the game. My freedom is the choice of action and the power of enactment I have within the rules and situation of the game.... To accept one’s limited freedom, to accept one’s isolation, to accept this responsibility, to learn one’s particular powers, and then with them to humanize the whole: that is best for the situation." -- John Fowles

The film being shown this week has been changed from that originally listed on the SML calendar. It will be instead 'The Magus', based on the novel by John Fowles.

The Magus was an important and mind-altering film for me when I first saw it and I persist in that opinion, the comments of Woody Allen* notwithstanding.

It tells the story of Nicholas Urfe, a callous young English teacher who takes a position at the Lord Byron School on the Greek island of Phraxos as a means of escaping from his failed life. There he encounters a wealthy hermit/trickster named Maurice Conchis who gradually draws Urfe into an elaborate labyrinth of paradoxical "godgames" that grow increasingly dark and intense, eventually undermining Urfe's sense of identity and reality.

One reviewer called Fowles' novel "A splendidly sustained piece of mystification...such as could otherwise only have been devised by a literary team fielding the Marquis de Sade, Arthur Edward Waite, Sir James Frazer, Gurdjieff, Madame Blavatsky, C.G. Jung, Aleister Crowley, Franz Kafka."

* Woody Allen once quipped, "If I had my life to live again, I'd do everything exactly the same, except I wouldn't see 'The Magus'."

From Fr. Pangloss:

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

For this week's FFF event we will watch "Islam: What the West Needs to Know" and discuss afterward.

Though Islam is obviously the subject of this film, the intention of showing it is not for the purpose of exploring Islam or the Muslim world as a whole. Rather, the interest is in promoting discussion of the parallels between the Islam portrayed in this film (regardless of its bias) and the vision of O.T.O. that Crowley describes in the various Blue Equinox documents and elsewhere as a total social program supporting a project of cosmic scope.

Be forewarned: This is a propaganda film. Expect to make the most of the experience by watching with a critical but open mind.

Who: Open to the public
Where: Sekhet-Maat, 1409 SE Stark St., Portland
When: Friday, February 13th at 7:30 PM

Please bring snacks, drinks, or a dish to share.

Love is the law, love under will.

The only opportunity you have to see and hear Thelemic Symposium is at Thelemic Symposium! http://www.thelemic-symposium.com

Recording devices are prohibited at Thelemic Symposium. Non-flash photography is permitted. The restriction against recording is in the interest of promoting an atmosphere of immediacy, encouraging the panelists to speak candidly, and minimizing the "audience/performer" dynamic. Mediated content is very easy to find in the world today in video, audio, and text formats. Immediate content is rare, and Symposium aims to preserve a sense of immediacy because the topic is so personal. Panelists may choose to publish their prepared material on their own, but that's as close as you can get without attending.

Tickets will sell out in the final couple of weeks, and are already half sold. Anyone can purchase tickets online by visiting http://www.thelemic-symposium.com

Friday, Feb 6th at Sekhet-Maat Lodge (1409 SE Stark)… The time, 1930.

This week at the Film, Food, Forum…. Experimental film - The short films of Maya Deren.

We will screen some of Maya Deren's short films including "Meshes of the Afternoon" (1943), "A Study in Choreography for Camera" (1945), "Ritual in Transfigured Time" (1946) and "Meditation on Violence" (1948) among others.

And if those titles don’t grab you… This is experimental film at it's best.

Bring food and drink to share.

We’ll have plenty of discussion along with the shorts. Those new to Maya Deren along with old fans are encouraged to attend. And if you are a Anaïs Nin fan... well, you know.

Love is the law, love under will.

Sekhet-Maat Lodge Annual Report 2008 ev

Sekhet-Maat Lodge has completed its Annual Report for 2008 ev. We strive to remain as transparent as possible so that anyone may examine our work in detail. The only things we have redacted from the report are matters pertaining to initiatory mysteries or private information about individuals.

We invite all our brothers and sisters in the Order as well as those outside the Order to come and explore our Lodge to find out about what we have accomplished in the last year, the challenges we faced, and what we plan to do in the coming year. I wanted some opinions. Ive been pondering joining the Rosicrucian Order A.M.O.R.C. of which an old friend of mine was an initiate. I want a good "formal" system of magickal study and understanding on which to build. Whats some of the PDX-Occulters opinions on this organization and its practices?

Please join us Tuesday, 7:30pm, 1409 SE Stark for an open discussion on the rights of humankind:

Liber Oz

"the law of the strong: this is our law and the joy of the world."—AL II:2

"Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law."—AL I:40

"thou hast no right but to do thy will. Do that, and no other shall say nay."—AL I:42-3

"Every man and every woman is a star."—AL I:3

There is no god but man.

1. Man has the right to live by his own law--
to live in the way that he wills to do:
    to work as he will:
    to play as he will:
    to rest as he will:
to die when and how he will.

2. Man has the right to eat what he will:
    to drink what he will:
    to dwell where he will:
to move as he will on the face of the earth.

3. Man has the right to think what he will:
    to speak what he will:
    to write what he will:
to draw, paint, carve, etch, mould, build as he will:
    to dress as he will.

4. Man has the right to love as he will:—
"take your fill and will of love as ye will,
when, where, and with whom ye will."—AL I:51

5. Man has the right to kill those who would thwart these rights.
    "the slaves shall serve."—AL II:58
"Love is the law, love under will."—AL I:57
