[20 Aug 2008|02:45pm] moredarker my paycheck always totals out to 80 hrs. no matter how much or little i put in, i'm always at 80. so i got a $1.50 raise and a $500 bonus. but this week's paycheck is only $310 more than last week's. so, why did i think i was actually getting a whole $500? OF COURSE they're gonna tax me on it. lame. taxes suck. especially since i thought the dollar amount was going to be way higher because i was all excited about my bonus. stupid taxes. i blame dubya. but hey, it's still better than nothing. I hate that this is true. But I'm dragging my feet again. Drowning myself in work. I work 6 days a week, just under 60 hours a week - and with all of that I don't even have the time to stop and think of what I'm doing exactly. I've been a fucking robot for the past few months. Though it does not matter, I still feel like I have to out beat and come out the winner. My computer is down, therefor updating must take place on my sister's. Work has been SOO slow. I can't take it anymore and I can tell that everyone is feeling the same. My supervisor Tina's last day will be Friday, everyone is sad because she's so cool and the nicest person in the office, as far as management goes. This new chick, who I'm not going to call "lady" or "woman", is in training. We're all hoping she isn't as bitchy or uptight as Gail. I finally got my car back yesterday after work, and let me tell you, they did an absolutely perfect job. For such a cheap price, they even washed my car! I didn't expect that at all, but hey, I'm not complaining. Speaking of washed car, I keep forgetting how clear the windows are, and thus have tried pulling them up when they already were all the way up! Oh well, whatever, "I do what I want!". If you didn't know that the back bumper was damaged, then you wouldn't have known that it was fixed. It looks inpeccable, and I'm so happy that I have it back looking new! This weekend Kevin and I are planning on taking his two dogs to the dog park. Hopefully that goes well and ends up being a lot of fun. I want my own dog so bad! I already have a name picked out, but I won't say, in case you might steal it! ;) Next Tuesday class starts, let the countdown begin! Random: Finding out that people who has ridiculous OCD is pretty amusing. Especially in the work place, and even if it isn't an OCD, it's still fun to just pretend that it is. =) Join Hands!

Foreign Service Exam Explained [18 Aug 2008|08:44pm] emosnail    A number of you asked what passing the Foreign Service Exam meant. Since you all asked the same question I figured I'd answer it once in an entry rather than make the same comment response over and over again.    Having passed the Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT), my application proceeds to the "Qualifications Evaluation Panel" (QEP) where they'll put it in a pile and look at it in mid-November and decide if I'm awesome or not. If they decide I seem suitably kickass they will then call me in for a Oral Assessment. And then... they'll probably spend months doign a background check.    So there's certainly a lot of steps still to go, but the FSOT weeds out like 98% of the applicants and I haven't gotten past it before, so I am quite pleased.    All this is for a position as a Foreign Service Officer (FSO), ie someone who works in a US embassy abroad. Specifically I've applied to the Political Division (as opposed to things like Economics, Public Diplomacy, Consular, or Management), so I'd be analyzing local politics where posted and reporting on it and such.    My dream is to be in Tblisi right now (= Totally Unrelated Picture of the Day I'm amassing a collection of beach photos 6 Hands| Join Hands!

[18 Aug 2008|10:49pm] poppoppop It was Anya's birthday yesterday. She turned 20. We had a fun day. I took her on a picnic. It was totally sweet. White wine was sipped. Kisses were shared. You know... I look weird in this picture. Hot, yes. Weird, though. After that, we drove about an hour to the coolest place ever. Monster Golf! It's indoors and glow in the dark. It was a surprise and how can you not be surprised when you're taken to a fucking indoor glow in the dark mini-golf course in the middle of a shopping mini-mall? The answer is you can't. Between you and I, I'm pretty sure I won but don't tell Anya that. We weren't keeping score or anything =) Here's the glow in the dark mini-golf place. I told you it was awesome! After that, we joined some of her family at the fabulous Carmine's in NYC. Probably the best Italian place ever. Their croutons in their caesar salads are amazing. I wish I could eat there every single day. I've been thinking a lot about my relationship lately. Especially because Anya is about to leave for 4 months. I can't even believe how close we are. You wouldn't even believe some of the shit we've been talking about lately. It would blow your mind. It was stuff I'd see on TV and call bullshit at, but I guess when you really find that person, it's not bullshit at all. Haha, we're watching the Olympics right now and she just said "If there was an event for loving you, I would come in first place." What a dorkus. Seriously, though... I can't believe how well this has gone these past 4 years. There was SO MUCH shit talked on both of us, mostly me.. but did anyone of you really think it would go this far? I think the only ones who really did were Anya and I. I couldn't be happier with how we're doing. I guess that's why I'm so depressed about her leaving for 4 months. God, that's such a long time. Trust is HUGE in a good relationship and I think once you betray that, you're sort of just kidding yourself. I'm so glad I have that. It feels like the warmest, softest and most long lasting comfort blanket you're not allowed to buy. If you don't fully 100% trust someone you're with.. why are you even trying?
