oicontest #7: be happy!
Okay, next oicontest has been chosen. (Finally.)

You can enter up to two icons. The theme is happy - so "yay!" and "squee!" icons are the theme. Bounciness, glee, all that fun stuff. Just... happy. Nothing any more complicated than that. ;)

If you have any questions, feel free to comment with them.

We'll be accepting entries up until Saturday, April 15th.

Comment with your entries on this post, comments will be screened so only the judges can see your icons. If you want your icon journal or whatever credited instead of your username in awards (if you receive one), please include the name of your icon journal in the comment. :)

That's all, I think. Happy entering!

Really random, newbie question....what are the rules regarding making icons for contests? Are there any? Can you use an artist's work if you credit where you go the artwork from?

Basically, "don't enter stuff you shouldn't", hee. So if the artist allows their stuff to be altered with credit (they'll have a terms of use or something on their site), yes, you may use their art.

I was wondering 'cause I made icons/bases from scans of cards from a game. The game prominently acknowledges that all the art is done by one person. I'll have to poke around to see if I can find a terms of use for it. Hmmm.

Thanks!

are any of the posts friends only? just because this is one of my favorite icon communities and i haven't seen any new icon or base posts for a while.

No, we just tend to be either flood or famine - sometimes a bunch of us will get inspired and post all at once, sometimes there aren't posts for weeks. Just keep checking back. :)

Referring to Jia's post, I'm going to ask you to submit this hosted elsewhere, and not as one of your userpics. It makes sense to standardise rules across contests, as there will be less confusion that way. It's also a good rule to have.

Ah, I wasn't submitting it. I was just saying "Yay!" to the contest theme. *L* It's not even an icon I made myself.

Okay, so I know I'm complicating a simple theme, but I'm wondering how strict an interpretation of 'happy' we're talking about. I guess I'm just wondering if the icon needs to be of someone being happy, or just to convey the idea of happiness? I'm looking at the entries for the old 'angry' contest, and it seems that a general theme/tone/idea would be acceptable?

I would say that anything that has a recognisable theme of happiness/joy/squee/yay/whatever would be acceptable :)

The judging post on our secret designer community is about to go up, along with the viewer's choice poll, but your first icon is just a red X. =( Hopefully you submitted a second later in the post..

It's there now... odd. Well, saved for viewer's choice poll and added to the judging post, so all is good. :)

Yep, it does. If this will be your contest entry, make a new comment with it (and your other entry, if you end up having one). :)

It doesn't work, no. It asks me to sign in.

To get the image link, right click on the picture and select "copy image location" if you're using Firefox, or "properties" if you're using Internet Explorer (then copy the image address from the properties box.)

Nope, this doesn't work either.

Try photobucket.com or imageshack.us. You'll need to do <img src="http://www.linkaddress.whatever"> as well.
