Incomplete me
Does anyone know how to get an emergency incomplete? Can I do it if I'm just incompetent?

"Emergency Incompletes may be authorized by the Dean of Studies for reasons that arise from circumstances beyond the student's control. These incompletes are usually for medical, psychological, or life-crisis reasons."
There are educational incompletes though, details here:

You get them from the Dean of Studies office, located in Peters. You can read under what circumstances you can obtain an emergency incomplete here:

Kathryn.Stuart@oberlin.edu is who handled my emergency medical incomplete, and she was amazing.

Academic incompletes are good for incompetence. You just need your prof's permission. Aaaaand you get two total! Hooray!

I have taken a fair number of incomplete's in my day.
Educational Incomplete's are the easiest to get. You get two during your oberlin carrer. You get the form from the Dean of Studies Office (Peters 205), but you only need your professor to sign it. Some profs are better than others about giving out incompletes. Many will happily do it, especially if taking the incomplete will allow you to do aditional work and produce a better final product. Some profs are a little more difficult, and strongly discourage taking incompletes. I'd advise meeting with your professor and talking about it. I'd also advise saving one of your incompletes for your junior/senior years.
Emergency incompletes are for medical of "life crisis" reasons. They have to be aproved by the Dean of Studies. Unlike educational, you have an unlimited number of these, and your prof does not need to ok them. However, it is pretty much up to the discression of the Dean of Studies whether you qualify, and Stuart and Grim have been quite bitchy to myself and many other people I know. If the medical crisis is physical (like a broken arm, say), they are easy enough to get, you just provide acomanying documentation. If the problem, however, is a mental illness, or some hard-to-document life crisis, they can be very difficult. The more documentation you have the better.
From what it sounds like, an educational incomplete is the way to go for you. If you want more advice on the process, e-mail me.
