It's my last semester at Oberlin. What would you recommend I be sure to do, if I haven't done already, to make sure I haven't missed out on anything? Places to go, things to do? What do you think is essential to the classic Oberlin experience?

Have you had an orgy yet?
Gone on WOBC for any odd reason?
Seen someone naked or been naked in public?
Had a bonfire in the arb?
Wandered around the reservoir? The cemetary? The bike trail?
Tried to break in to the fourth floor of Talcott?
Spent an afternoon talking with Pat in Stitch by Stitch?
Tried to eat at CDS but couldn't because everything was unidentifiable?
Had to figure out how to spend that last $200 in flexdollars at the Decafe?

OK, I'm out.

FYI- Stitch by Stitch is no longer in downtown Oberlin. But Pat works at Dave's now, and is definitely worth chatting with.

She ran it out of her house last year, but with very limited hours, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Her husband ran it when she was at Dave's. Don't know if she still does that, though. Go ask her sometime.

In retrospect, I wished I had spent more time walking in the Arb, or known about the WWII memorial wall on the south side of Finney earlier... two nice quiet spots on campus that it took me too long to know about

I also wish I'd done 80s night more often (though that part might have changed, I've been out for 4 years now)

Mainly, it's hard to find the same kind of concentration of interesting people outside the Bubble as it was in... just spending time with people you like is probably the best use of your time

80s night isn't nearly as lively as it once was- though we aim to change that.

cool... on only barely related note (being as the Sco is across the hall from it), any chance 4th meal will return to the Rat? found out during one of my post-graduation visits that it's now in 'Scum, which sucks mightly compared to the cozy experience at the Rat

I just wanted to let you know that I think this is an awesome question to ask as a senior. That's really cool of you.

volunteer in the Oberlin Public Schools or find some way to interact with kids from town. I did this my senior year by hosting a radio show with kids from town and it changed my life (it convinced me to stay post graduation).

Take Everything Credit/NE (if you can - I don't think you can anymore), and practise the following schedule:

Monday Night Pitchers (or Poker if you prefer),
Teusday Night Quarter Beers,
Wednesday Night Splitchers,
Thursday Night Pitchers*,
TGIF,
The Feve Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Nights;
and the Inn and/or Drinking Games whenever you feel like it.

*not sure if this is still happening.

Sex Every Night.

Take a long walk in the arb at any time.
Take said walk at night. Bring a flashlight and your sense of wonder.
Go to Halloween Organ Pump.
Go to any midnight organ pump at all.
Sit under the weeping birch between Hall and the Allen Art Building.
Spend all night in Mudd.
Come to a Harkness Pizza Night (Fridays @ 6:20pm). Hell, even Nancy did it last year!
Get to know people in town.
Take a class on something you may never have another chance to study in a rigourous way, even if you know nothing about it.

Yeah, the weeping birch is awesome.
If you have a significant other, bring them.

Harkness pizza is a must. Don't miss it.

Organ pump is the awesome; try to get right up against the base of the instrument and lean your head against it; you'll feel the music as much as you hear it.

On misty/foggy nights around 1 AM, College Street and Main Street can look like scenes from 1940s films - the lights are somehow just right. But you won't see it except late at night, when the streets are empty, and the lights cast globes of glow in the haze.

Go to Chance Creek.
Go to the Bike Co-op (something I missed out on as a student and totally regret).
Check out the Farmer's Market.
In the spring, get ice cream at Miller's.
Take a prof to Professor Beers.
Spend time in the Allen.
Eat in a co-op.
Sled down Mt. Oberlin.

When it starts snowing late at night, go for a walk in it at like 3, 4, 5 am, preferably before a whole lot of people get to it. Generally is really cool while insomniacking and is really surreal and beautiful and wonderful. While it may not have been my brightest move, I went alone and put a footprint smiley face on that octagonal thing in front of Warner (which was pretty much destroyed the next day, but it was pretty cool while it lasted).

I also second the late night walk thing...Elm Street when it's foggy is pretty neat to see with all the street lights too, again late at night.
