student health
So...I couldn't find this in the memories, maybe I'm blind or something, but:
How far should I trust Student Health? Do they know what they're doing? If not, what would you recommend?
Thanks!!!

Pick up a copy of The Grape...there's a huge article on it that may help you.

um, student health can diagnose strep throat. and that's about it. go to a private practice if you have insurance (that they'll take; for example, nobody in town will take Aetna insurance), and if not, go to the cleveland clinic.

uuhhh...i have aetna insurance and my primary care physician is right next to the hospital on west lorain. there's a whole list of doctors around here that take whatever version of aetna you have on their website.

They're good for really basic stuff -- they can't necessarily do much but they can tell you what's wrong. Diagnosed my stomach flu the other spring and seemed competent enough to take out stitches I got over a break. Wouldn't advise them if you feel like it's any worse than the current ObiePlague.

If you're blind, then you are most likely pregnant

They are a good first stop. If you feel they didn't do you justice, ask for a referal, they refer to lots of great doctors. I wrote the Grape article, and can answer more questions than the article, as I cut things. :)

don't trust them at all. no matter what's wrong with you, they'll say you have a cold or the flu.

maybe the oberwiki page on health will help you find some good past discussions.

When I called them to ask what to do about my infected eye, they told me there was no one who could see me, not implying there were no openings...just...there was no one to see me.
You choose.

On the other hand, they're actually a lot better about reproductive health than my general practitioner back home. Laura Heironomous is pretty damn competent. The problem is that the Nurses aren't actually THERE all the time. That's why you "have to make an appointment" to have a cold/sore throat/ deadly cough, and it's hard to find someone to see you. If you've got time to make the appointment, they can be helpful, but if you are falling down sick/ think you might die, see the Cleveland Clinic. Not as cheap (you only pay for perscriptions and extreneous tests at Stu-Health) but they'll see you then and there.
My two cents.
