Sprint cell coverage?

What's the coverage like? I looked at the map on Sprint's website and it ranges from "Best" to "Good," but I just don't trust cell phone companies. What are your experiences?

Sprint is miserable. It's all about Verizon and that is IT.

It's shit. I signed up for a two year plan and I'm still regretting it. I barely got signal anywhere unless I stood outside (and even then it was only reliable in wide open areas).

My boyfriend has Sprint, and when he visited me in Union St. and in my apt. of-campus, he seemed to get pretty good coverage, but I couldn't say as far as dorms. Reception seems to vary a lot from bulding to building too. I got great reception in North and decent coverage in Barrows with Verizon. I don't think anyone gets good coverage at all in Burton, and I don't know about the other dorms. But from what I've heard, Verizon seems to be the best bet for coverage in Oberlin.

Yes, Verizon is the best. Keep away from T Mobile, the other popular one. However, for everyone, there is NO reception in the Science Center (damned chemists). Ever. So you know.

i actually have t mobile and it works great. i get reception in all of the buildings. including the science centre. granted, not all of the science centre, but the parts where it's okay to have a cell phone ring if someone calls.

Yeah, I also get pretty good coverage with T Mobile. It's better on south campus than north, but I still get signal in most dorms, as well as all places outside.

i'm curious if anyone has had any experience with unicel at oberlin. i'm an alum and not planning on visiting soon, but i've found that unicel gets amazing reception in places where other services don't do so well (e.g., inside buildings). so i'm curious how it stacks up out there in ohio...

i don't think unicel has coverage at all in ohio. i was looking into it cause i'm in vermont for the summer and my t mobile wasn't working, but unicel does, but decided against it because it looked like it would be worthless in oberlin, where i spend most of my time.

unicel is hands down the best in vermont. in a few places i've found that sprint and verizon can be as good or better, but overall my experience and anecdotal evidence has made me a big fan of unicel's service.

i know that unicel claims nationwide non-roaming coverage, but, of course, so does everyone. when i visit family on long island they're always impressed how good the coverage is, and none of them had ever heard of unicel before.

i guess next time i visit oberlin i'll have to bring my cell phone...

Alltel is really good too. I don't have it, but my roommate does, and she even gets good reception in the dreaded science center of cell phone death.

Alltel is the absolute winner in most all of rural Ohio.

also, before you get a new phone, check how good it is at getting reception... i have cingular, and i knew i wouldn't get great reception in oberlin, but i got the phone that best responds to available reception.

that said, i can get one bar in most places on campus that involves windows or outdoors. that's enough for cingular's calls, though.

my friend has sprint and she has reception almost everywhere on campus, except in some of the lecture halls and in the science center.

I have Sprint and I fared better than my roommate who had Cingular. We lived in East. I got reception in my room if I hung out near the window. Outside was no problem. I didn't get service in the Science Library or Mudd unless I stood in a stairwell. Sprint has treated me well thus far.

Hm. See, I have Verizon right now and I've been pampered by getting coverage everywhere in Oberlin with no problem. I want to change to Sprint because of a deal they've got with Amnesty International to give part of the bill to them. But yeah...I'm scared to give up my good cell service! I live in East, too, so your comment really helps. Dilemma.....

Yeah, I can't complain too much... I lived on the 2nd floor. Although, once when visiting a 1st floor room I found I had no service at all. I also didn't get service in the Decafe which was kind of a drag. And even outside, I never had full service until I got to the airport. Definitely manageable, though.

I don't think anyone has good service in Decafe. Verizon doesn't work there.

With Cingular (AT&T), coverage changes with what brand of phone you have. I have a Nokia and got good service, sometimes in Barrows hallways it didn't work but it always did in my room, and I had friends with Cingular and other brands of phones who had terrible coverage. So yeah, Cingluar+Nokia is good too.

Agreed. Also, my Cingular/AT&T+Nokia reception seems to be improving, which sort of irritates me a little because it means my phone is more likely to ring in more places, rendering me feeling more obligated to answer my phone.

Reception in more places for most people, however, seems to be a positive thing.
