City Wheels... CarShare... thingy...
So how does this big car-sharing program work? How do I go about getting a car for a particular time, and what does it cost?

It's a $25 membership with half subsizded by Oberlin, so it's like $12, plus $8/hour you rent the car-- no gas, insurance, or any other payments. There are also day rates if you need the car overnight. You can take it up to 500 miles away, which includes Chicago and DC but is just shy of NYC. You can take the car for any period of time it is not signed up for, and sign up for any period of time you're gonna need it. There are two cars, one of which is a sweetass Prius with an onboard super computer full foridiculous gadgetty goodness, the other is a sort-of SUV that seats six or has fold-down seats for carrying stuff like Cellos. I know all this, but not the next step, which is how to sign up.

You better be 21-- and you are. =)

Are you sure about the $25 membership fee? I was under the impression that it was far more than that, like $100.

According to ym ENVS classmate who helped set it up, the fee is really mad high everywhere else, but there's some sort of sweet deal that makes it only like 12 bucks for us. Do not quote me! But we were all riding in that Prius and impressed at said low low price.

I wanted to take it to Cincinnati for a weekend, but a weekend would be mad expensive, yes? It seems like it would be very affordable for a trip to Cleveland, but kind of expensive for longer trips. Leaving at noon and coming back at 6 the next evening is $252. Hmmm.

Thank you very much for all the helpful information. :)

No, the day rates are far cheaper. I really suggest you still check it out.

Ohhh, I missed that part of your comment. I dug around on the college website and found the link. If anybody else is curious: http://www.citywheelscleveland.com/

Looks like the max charge for a 24-hour period is under sixty bucks. Sweet.

And there's a separate page specific to Oberlin: http://citywheelscleveland.com/oberlin.php
