Places to watch out for in Indiana for a possible Obama upset
Zogby's got Indiana's race down a statistical dead heat as of yesterday. But really...screw the polls...where are the places to watch out for in terms of Obama pulling off a narrow win?

CNN reporter John King went over the electoral map mentioned some notables:

Indiana 1st and 8th Congressional districts--According to John King, the 1st District in Northwest Indiana bordering Illinois with a 25% black population and in Illinois's major media markets is a place to watch to help Obama. A strong turnout there could be very helpful.

The 8th in Southwest IN could be problematic...it's much more conservative and a strong turnout there could help Clinton.

Indiana 7th/Greater Indianapolis--As Obama does well among more liberal, more educated voters in urban areas a strong turnout in Indianapolis is something to watch.

Bloomington, Indiana...college town--The University of Indiana is located in Bloomington south of Indianapolis. Colleges young voters favor Obama and so a high turnout among them could be a boost to help a victory for Obama.

Indiana map: http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/pdf/congdist/pagecgd110_in.pdf

Good luck Obama!

All I know is that the whole of my Hoosier family is rooting for Obama (and voting). My 18-year-old sister is so excited to finally get the right to vote. That's about 20 in Evansville, and 4 or 5 in Newburgh :)

I definitely have my fingers crossed.

I know the turnout at the Evansville rally was ginormous. Did any of your family go? :)

No, they're not really rally people, xD.
I'm just pissed that I won't be in Evansville for another two weeks, so I'll never get to see Obama in person *cry*
As far as I know, he never made it to Topeka (or I totally missed it, because of other things going on), so missed my shot there, too.

Maybe he'll campaign here in Owensboro (KY). It's only about an hour from Evansville, come on over! :D

Of course, he probably won't. 3rd largest city in the state (like E-vill is to Indiana) so I have a bit of hope.

Oooh, that's enough for me to go to Owensboro, xD :) I need to go to KY for barbecue anyways (our friends went there on honeymoon two weeks ago, on their way to TN, and forgot my barbecue *cry*)

Please, keep rubbing it in, xD. I'm going to be in that area during NOTHING. Nothing will be going on during that time period, except for Memorial Day (May 18th through June 16th). SUCKS!!

Hey does Jon Brennan (of Real World Los Angeles of the 90s) still play at Goldies?

Last I heard, yeah. I've never gone to see him there but he sometimes eats where my best friend works. We often talk about Jon Brennan "sightings" lol.

There really isn't much else to do, sadly...

I think he probably will make it to Owensboro, he's never been shy about campaigning in states that will not vote for him no matter what.:)

Aw, that sucks. It was pretty crazy though and even though we got there early, the best spot (on the floor in front of the platform where he stood) was taken by a bunch of kids who had no idea what was going on.

I know about 10 people in the Boonville/Chandler area who voted for Obama, and only two who like Hillary.

I only know of one for Hilary in Evansville (of people I know), and I feel really bad for him, because he obviously knows nothing about Obama and his fight for equal rights for everyone, and Hilary's pretty anti-gay rights, it seems.

Just curious if you have anything to support that... just curious, because I have heard that before, and I have a friend that voted for her in NH because he didn't think Obama could pull it off and wanted to make sure a democrat was in office.... but at the time I couldn't really find any info on te subject for him for either cadidate...

But they also review Obama who also says marriage is between a man and a woman. I don't think their viewpoints are too different on gay rights - looks like they both scored an 89% from the Human Rights Campaign concerning gay rights.

I think Obama is more open to the concept of gay marriage...or at least civil unions. But I think he mentioned at some point that he doesn't want to get bogged down in the issue of gay marriage (which frankly has strong opposition even in "blue" states) and so divert attention from pressing for other equally important and more achievable gay rights issues.

I find it really sad so many people across the country (and the world) see marriage as only fundamentally defined by a two people of the opposite gender. Hell, I had this debate online with a conservative friend who lives in British Columbia when the issue was a national debate in Canada a few years ago. I think a lot of people still view gays and lesbians as "different" in a negative way or alternatively only see religion as the only way to define marriage and not an aspect involving civil society.

I live in the 8th. Unfortunately, it does seem pretty pro-Clinton. Unfortunately, the county I live in is one of the poorest in the state, and people are buying into the gas-tax crap.

That sucks...and it's not even gonna happen as most Dems and Reps in Congress know it's a farce.

Exactly! People don't realize it's not going to happen this summer for sure. I read somewhere that Pelosi has come out against it as well. Ahh yes here on Huffington Pelosi: Gas Tax Holiday Would Defeat Everything We're Doing To Lower Oil Costs

And I really doubt Bush is going to allow a windfall-profits tax on the oil companies to pass.

Lafayette is another young voter hotspot - Purdue University is there. That's District 4.

District 1 will almost certainly go Obama. I live in District 1. Much of District 2 gets Chicago media, which I imagine would help Obama. I don't know much about the rest of the state, except that anecdotally my friends in Indianapolis seem to all be anti-Obama.

He probably will do well in Indianapolis (I'm not sure what distict my friends are even in, even if they are representative of their district. They might be close enough downtown to be in 7, or they might be in 5.). I'm much more concerned about, well, everywhere outside of my corner or Indy.
