New Obama Seal

It is emblazoned with a fierce-looking eagle clutching an olive branch in one claw and arrows in the other and is deliberately reminiscent of the official seal of the president of the United States. Around the top border are the words “Obama for America;” across the bottom is the campaign’s Web address. It also contains the logo of the Obama campaign, variously interpreted as a sunrise or a view down an open road.Just above the eagle’s head are the words “Vero Possumus,” roughly translated “Yes we can.”

I'm trying to warm up to it. The "Vero Possumus" helps.

I can't not like something that sounds like opossum. It's not a pretty as the other one, but does have more of an official, presidential, solid look to it.

Haha, I think it's kind of cool. Saw a posting about it on CNN and people are wanking about how presumptuous (and dictatorial -- what?) it is. *eyeroll* I kind of like the "O" one better, but it's fine. Positive thinking. LOL.

Don't like it. Not as recognizable from a distance... like it's trying to trick people or something. I'm gonna stick with the old one.

Trick people? what people and where is the trick?

I don't know if 'trick' is the right word... but I guess if I were a republican and I saw such a presidential and stuffy-looking seal, I'd think it were a republican thing... and then when I got closer I'd see it was actually an Obama thing and OH MY GOD those SNEAKY democrats and now I have to KEY THIS CAR! LOL.

I don't know. I guess the old seal was just so.. friendly. So open and kind and welcoming and grass-roots. The new one looks so... stuffy and pretentious and stuff. I've never been fond of the big vicious eagle holding some poor innocent symbol in its talons, I guess. I can't explain it. I just look at the new seal and I think it's something that the McCain people would create.

I recently saw a bumper sticker with Obama's face. That was recognizable from a distance. Cool, I thought. Then I got closer and saw that the sticker said "You will be very disappointed." WTF? I felt tricked, frustrated and angry. No need to anger or frustrate people, although just being for something that someone else is against is enough.

I'm sorry, I'm rambling. Been making no-bakes for the Obama bake sale, got four kids running around, trying to get dishes done... and I'd rather be reading with a glass of iced tea at my side. :-)

"I'd think it were a republican thing"

Republicans don't hold trademark on elegant design ;)

Oh, I know. But I don't think it's an elegant design. It's fussy and stodgy and serious and impregnable and exclusive. It's not any person's design. It's not fun and open and friendly. It's a stiff upper lip, it's an academic insignia, it's a guy playing polo. It's not... ME! :-)

Plus, I just made a bunch of shrinky-dink necklaces of the OLD seal. It would be a major PITA to do the new one in shrinky dink format. :-P

LOL I guess not!!! I forget what a bubble this is out here.

You know, if this new emblem instills a sense of excitement and pride in the rest of the country; if they need it to believe he's serious... well then I'll take that eagle! And call me a latte-sippin', homebirth havin', environment-lovin neo-hippie!

I don't see why people are getting so wanky about this.

Candy Crowley hates it according to her blog post.

I've had the silver seal for my wallpaper for about threeweeks to a month. I guess the website gets things before they release it publicly.

also, edit: BURN! it's totally a burn to the presidents.

the download from the website has "e pluribus unum" rather than the "vero possumus"; the eagle is the same though. I like the olive branch + arrows.

I like the olive branch and the arrows gig. Good thing the arrows are not a scroll.
