    Searching
    Hello!

So I'm moving to new york for graduate school. Shortly, in fact. I've been scouring craigslist for 2 br apartments in the 1200-1300 range and am finding some, but was wondering of anyone knew of any other websites that had useful listings or a reputable realtor. We've been looking in Brooklyn and Queens, as well as at East Harlem. Our credit is pretty good and we have guarantors if needed.

my best friend is from manhattan so she's doing the legwork while i fret in L.A. so we do have someone to physically look at things.

really, any advice would be super awesome.

    thanks a lot!

Looking for a roommate? Know someone who is?
    Namaste, New Yorkers...

I'm moving to New York city in a few weeks to be a Raw lifestyle coach / raw vegan chef / nutritionist / personal trainer / etc.... I just got my certifications and I've been preparing branding and logos and marketing plans and all the rest of it for the past couple weeks here in Atlanta.

Here's the thing... I don't know hardly anyone in Brooklyn! And I especially don't know any other raw vegans, yogis, conscious people, or spiritualists. I want to find roommates that at least have similar lifestyles.... I don't think the typical New Yorker would quite sympathize with morning chanting or their roommate drinking algae or growing Kombucha fungus in the fridge unless they were of certain "alternative" inclinations themselves. Not to mention, I'd rather not deal with the vibes of drinkers/smokers or non-organic chemicals and such that most people keep in their homes..

So I'm posting this entry in this community in the hopes that someone here knows someone in Brooklyn, preferably a vegan, yogi, hippie, spiritualist, whatever, who is looking for a roommate!

    Here's to intention! :-)

    Thanks

1br/ studio in ny with out credit report?
     Hey all,
Im desperate about finding an apartment to move in sooooooon. I hate craigslist because all of its brokers ads even in "by owner only" section. I've been trying to find apt for two months already. My "problem" in this country is that I never used a credit card, as I don't like the idea of living in credit and can't imagine myself doing it. I guess I'm not normal in this society. I've been living in US for 2 years, worked (for cash) and went to school (filmmaking).  Im currently not working and not planning to next 3-4 months as I'm expecting a baby to be born in June. Im willing to give double (or tripple!) deposit and the upper level of monthly rent for me is $1200 including utilities.
Im starting getting frustrated in this unsuccessful hunt for a place to live with a baby. Sorry if youre seeing this third time, Im cross posting.
May be someone is subletting his/her 1br/studio for summer? or any single parent is looking for a roommate?
Or anyone can help with an advice?

    Stuyvesant Town
    Hey,

I'm beginning an apartment search and wanted some opinions on Stuytown. Which are the best buildings? What have you heard about it- both good and bad? Any stories? Anything to beware of? I really want to hear people's experiences and what they have to say.

    Seeking Roommate in Midtown West
Hi there. I am moving into a new 2BD, either on March 15 or April 1. I've found a pretty large place in Midtown West, right off thriving 9th Avenue and near lots of train lines. It's spacious, has a good layout - with rooms on opposite ends of the apartment for privacy and quiet, an average-sized living room, laundry in the apartment and a nice new kitchen. It's discounted because of the market, from $1400/person to $1200/person. I'll be furnishing the common areas with some nice furniture and am looking for a roommate to share the place.

I'm a mid-20s girl who works pretty long hours, is neat but not freakishly so, and likes to be low-key and drama-free at home. Looking for someone sane with a steady job/credit to move in. Please be in touch at packsherbags on gmail.

    Best of luck!

    won't you be mine
Hello! My name is Jeanne-Marie, I've been living in Forest Hills for abooout 18 months now and I'm looking to relocate within my neighborhood. Roomie issues, I know everyone can empathize. Well, I saw this lovely little number and my brain went all "GRABBYHANDS". So it's cheap, it's clean, there are hardwood floors, and it's in a fabulous location. Would anyone like to go in with me?
Here are a couple of personal details, so you know you'd be getting into.
  • age - Nearly 30
  • job - Case worker. I help the unemployed, so my position isn't in too much danger right now.
  • likes - Vegetarian food, the F train, ridiculously fannish things like Harry Potter, X-Men, and everything by Joss Whedon
  • plans for the apartment - Get some kind of pet. Probably not a dog because they're too high maintenance. Maybe a cat, though. Maybe. If that's a deal breaker, I can get something smaller and less with the allergens.
  • preferences - My room is my domain, which means that it's not even close to spotless. The common areas, though, they stay neat and clean.
  • Okay, I think that covers pretty much everything. Let me know if you're interested and we'll swap numbers!

    Other than craigslist...
I am leaving my apartment on March 1 and trying to fill my room (http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/roo/1038479602.html, if you're interested). Can anyone suggest a place to post an ad other than craigslist.org and sublets.com?

Room available in nice elevator building in Prospect Heights
I am moving out of a great apartment in Prospect Heights and looking to fill my room beginning March 1.

The room is on the small side, but has a huge closet and is very comfortable. It currently has a full size bed, a desk and a small dresser.

The apartment is pretty new - fresh paint, nice appliances, air conditioning. There's a balcony with a great view of Manhattan. The building itself is great and has an elevator. The management company has an office across the street and is extremely helpful and always available. Your half of the utilities (cable, internet and ConEd) usually run about $90/month.

There is easy access to the 2,3,4,5,B,Q,C trains by way of the Franklin Ave. Shuttle train, which is around the block. There are also several bus routes nearby. You can walk to the Brooklyn museum in under 10 minutes, Grand Army Plaza and Prospect Park in about 15, and Park Slope in 20-25.

Your potential roommate is a graduate student at NYU and works full time at a museum in the city. He's a gay male and is really friendly and a lot of fun. I moved here from out of town, and he made me feel very comfortable and welcome.

I'm sad to be leaving the apartment, but these things happen. Please send an email to jessmaso at gmail dot com with a little about yourself and we can set up a visit. Craigslist ad below:
    http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/roo/1018976852.html

I will have photos available by tonight and can send them by email.

    Room for Rent January 15th!!!
Great bedroom available on January 15th for a cool and fun FEMALE in a HUGE 3-bedroom Park Slope apartment!

The rent is $850 a month and you will need to pay a one month's deposit and 1st month’s rent to move in. The utilities are split 3 ways and range between $60-$100 a month.

    The Apartment:

It’s the top floor of a 3-apartment building located in the heart of Park Slope – right on 7th Avenue! There are super high ceilings and hard wood floors throughout. It’s very light and bright and open. There are one and a half baths, gorgeous moldings, and there is roof access. It’s just steps (or at the most, blocks) from anything you could think of, including the B/Q and 2/3 subway stops. Walking distance to Atlantic Center where there’s a Target, Daffy’s, Old Navy, etc.

    The Room:

It’s approx. 9’ x 10’ with a window looking over a back yard. Very sweet and cozy. There is no closet in the room, but I’m selling my armoire (see photos below) and there are 2 huge closets in the dining room that are only for you. It’s more than enough storage, believe me! The room fits a queen size bed easily (again, see photos.)

Photos of the apartment and the room are here:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/33460330@N06/sets/72157611292521431

    The Vibe:

There are currently two roommates in the apartment, one of who will be moving out on or near March 1st. She’s a 38 year old art teacher.

The other one is a 27 year-old law student who is super busy most of the time.

Currently, we all hang out/watch movies/have conversations (and sometimes a few drinks) with each other, and are looking for a similar situation with whoever moves in. During the week we mostly turn in early (10-11 pm or so), and on the weekends tend to go out in the city or Brooklyn and meet up with friends, or sometimes stay in and watch movies or Top Chef marathons.

No live in boyfriends/girlfriends, although an occasional overnight is fine. Also, constant weekend parties are not cool, but if you want to have a couple of friends over to cook dinner or whatever, that’s totally fine.

The apartment is quite tidy and clean and it’s important that you are too. New York is already crazy enough, and it’s important that you respect the public spaces – clean up your messes, do your dishes, take the garbage out, vacuum occasionally, etc. The idea is to have the apartment be somewhere that you like to be.

NO PETS (unless you have a goldfish or something like that). There is a cat here until the other roommate moves, so if you are severely allergic keep that in mind. After that, there will be no pets.

There is some furniture here that is for sale, and some that will be leaving, so let us know what kind of furniture/kitchen stuff/etc you have.

If you are a mature, fun, responsible, employed (or in school), conscientious, NON-SMOKING female between 25-35, this could be your next home – I’ve LOVED living here, and I’m sure you will too!

Please comment with some information about you, and we’ll set up a time for you to stop by.

    Thanks, and good luck!

    Looking for a film location
Any of you New Yorkers have access to a roof with a view of the city? My friend’s video has a scene where the lead character is viewing the city and making a decision--nothing too disruptive. The shoot date for the roof scene would be November 1.

Just how late can rent be?
I've been googling and reading for awhile and still nothing, maybe you can help?

Here in NYC, how long do you have to pay rent? If its due on the 1st, do you have up until the 3rd?

I know in California, that's the case. Is this a state mandated thing? A landlord thing?

    Any help/answer/links would be great.

    thank you!
