This may sound completely crazy, but does anyone know of an East African restaurant in the city or surrounding area? specifically, Tanzanian, or barring that Kenyan.
My searches online are fruitless. Thanks for any help. |

| Bring Your Own - NYC |
[Mar. 20th, 2009|12:44 pm] |
Please help me with a new wiki: byo.wikispaces.com, a listing of Bring-Your-Own establishments. As I drink in NYC, that's the majority of the content so-far. I've only just started (literally) and am looking for recommendations (and maintainers).
( I wasn't able to find any up-to-date websites on this topic, so I went out and started one :). xposted about) |

| where can i find: california-style sandwich? |
[Feb. 21st, 2009|12:56 am] |
hi i'm looking for a place in manhattan or near brooklyn that serves a great fresh "california-style" sandwich: you know, the avocado+tomato+sprouts+asiago cheese on wholesome sourdough... i know it's easy to make at home, but i'd like to have something like this for an out lunch. thanks for your suggestions! |

| Hello, kind of random question but hopefully you all can help! |

| [ | mood |
| | tired | ] | Hi everyone! Uh I think this is the right comm for this, but if it's not please direct away? My boyfriend currently goes to culinary school, and he needs to do a work-term to graduate. So we were looking into places where he could work at it. It would need to be fairely fancy, because he'd need to work under an actual chef- as in someone who actually graduated from a culinary school.
Problem is, I am cheap when I go to eat in New York ( I live in New Jersey, hoboken to be more specific) so I don't know of any. Can anyone recommend away? I know there are famous chefs in NYC, but like I said I am cheap!
If anyone could list places, or even better link me to their website, that would be fantastic!
Help, please? D: |

| Uncle Nick's Ouzaria |
[Jan. 6th, 2009|02:02 pm] |
Hello!
I posted here a bit back and have successfully found a 21st birthday spot. I'm going back to my Greek roots (and not forcing everyone to make the trek over to Astoria) and heading to Uncle Nick's Ouzaria on 9th Ave. between 50th and 51st. I'm rather excited as I haven't been to a Greek tapas restaurant (mezedopoulio, or ouzeri) in ages, and only ever in Greece.
Following this, I have two questions:
1) I checked out the yelp reviews, and everything looks pretty good -- any personal experiences? Suggestions?
2) I'm looking for a place to go afterwards for dessert that's in the area. Especially someplace within walking distance that would welcome a party of 8 on a Saturday. Suggestions?
Thanks, again for all the wisdom!

| 21st |
[Dec. 15th, 2008|09:58 am] |
I am not much of a partier or a drinker, but I am in search of someplace to celebrate my 21st.
I'm hoping for a place that is cozy and inviting, with food (of any kind, extra bonus points for something scrumptious...like fondue* or chocolate) and drinks, where those under 21 can also have fun (not asking for someplace that will allow them booze, but will allow them entry) for a group of 10 (plus or minus). Also, as a quirky kid, quirky places are pretty cool too.
*At the moment, I'm quite intrigued by the fondue idea and am looking for a suggestion of a place with similar criteria as the above. Also, any opinions on Dip NYC? They seem to get very mixed reviews.
Lo, I come to the font of collective New Yorker wisdom.
Thanks! |

| Hungry, tired and maybe looking for some jazz? |
[Dec. 10th, 2008|10:49 pm] |
Hello there! I'm making a day trip on Saturday 20th December with my husband, sisters and a few friends to NYC for a day and we're looking for a place to get some dinner and perhaps hear some live jazz in Manhattan between Times Square and China town.
That probably sounds blatantly crazy, but we basically need to be in Chinatown for 11pm after seeing Times Square at about dusk and will have been on our feet since 7am.
We're not loaded, so looking for something reasonable?
Thank you SO much!! I appreciate it SO much!! :) |

| beer drinking locales |
[Nov. 18th, 2008|08:37 am] |
I'm meeting up with some friends on Saturday afternoon for some leisurely beer drinking. I'm looking for a place with a substantial selection of beer where we can chat, linger and eat something too. I'm thinking maybe some place that specializes in beer & moules frites, something like that. I've got a few ideas and I'm Yelping for more, but any suggestions you might have are welcome too. I like to find new places. Looking for locations in chelsea, hell's kitchen, west or east village, or williamsburg.
thanks!

| | Greensleeves Rock Version | ] | Check out this article at Consumerist/LifeHacker! http://lifehacker.com/5069261/buy-25-restaurant-gift-cards-for-2
Basically Restaurant.com is selling their gift cards at a discount right now. 40$ cards for 25$ and the most expensive one $375 for $150. Well, according to the article, if you also type in the discount code TREATS it takes another 80% off. So, I went and tested it out. I put in the most expensive card, $375 and typed in the code, and holy crap It's $30! I feel almost guilty getting it.
The economy sucks shit right now. I don't know about you guys but this seams like a fairly good way to gather up some X-Mas/Channuka gifts, or at the very least some stocking stuffers. Or a great way to save on a few dates or family dinners. I hope it works out for some of you!

I got a 50.00 gift card in the mail this afternoon for a restaurant in NYC called PICHOLINE. Seeing as I'm in Michigan, and I don't know what to do with it, if any of you heard of it or like it and are interested in it, reply? |

| Bachelorette night |
[Jun. 17th, 2008|06:52 pm] |

I want to take my sister out in Manhattan for her bachelorette night. Does anyone have any recommendations of a good, fun place to go? Somewhere hip and trendy, and not terribly expensive. Neighborhood isn't too important, just not too far uptown. Somewhere in SoHo or around Union Square might be good, since those are the neighborhood's my sister likes. |

A couple of guys from work and I are thinking of going to get steaks tonight. I know of Arthur's in NJ that has cheap but good steaks. Is there any place in NYC that has good steaks at a fair price? I am thinking Peter Luger's, but I don't know how much it'll cost us. Their website doesn't have prices on the menu. Does anyone know of Peter Luger prices? Thanks. cross-posted to newyorkers |
