4th Annual Numb3rs Slash Ficathon: Numb3rs Gets Clued In

Welcome to the 4th Annual Numb3rs Slash Ficathon!

The Ficathon is a celebration of the return of Numb3rs and has purposely been timed to take place over hiatus so that a) we all have a reason to live until the new season starts *g*, and b) the posting of the fic will coincide (for the most part, anyway) with the premiere of the fifth season.

This year’s theme, Numb3rs Gets Clued In, is based very loosely on the game Clue. How loosely, you ask? Well, we’re going to assign you a prompt consisting of a person, place and thing, and you have to use those three items in your fic. However, how you use your assigned prompt is up to you. They can form the basis of your entire fic, merely be mentioned in passing, or be alluded to only indirectly; you may twist the prompt however you like.

To make things even more interesting, the “person” will be one of the guest characters (excluding the oft-writ Coop and Edgerton), we’ve met on the series.

Rules:

Please note that, even though prompts will be assigned in a format based on the game Clue, you are not expected to write a ‘Colonel Mustard in the kitchen with the candlestick holder’ type of fic. Unless that’s what you want to write. *g* Remember, how you use the prompt is entirely up to you, and you may twist it however you like.

You may write any slash pairing (that includes both m/m and f/f slash), any rating, any genre. There is no maximum word length, but stories should be at least 1000 words. (That’s only about 3 pages, folks!)

Welcome to the 3rd Annual Numb3rs Slash Ficathon!

The Ficathon is a celebration of the return of Numb3rs and has purposely been timed to take place over hiatus so that a) we all have a reason to live until the new season starts *g*, and b) the posting of the fic will coincide (for the most part, anyway) with the premiere of the fourth season.

It was a close vote, but the theme for our third Ficathon is ‘Episode Titles’. I have chosen 100 episode titles from BtVS/Ats, SPN, due South, The Sentinel and NCIS. I’ll drop those titles into a hat and randomly assign everyone two titles, one from the BtVS/Ats/SPN collection and one from the dS/TS/NCIS collection. You may use either (or both *g*) of those titles as inspiration for your fic.

Rules:

You may use your assigned titles in any manner you choose. It can be the title of your fic, a line in your fic, or it may only indirectly be alluded to in your fic. Twist the prompt however you want.

3rd Annual Numb3rs Slash Ficathon: Help me decide on a theme for this round!

It's almost that time again! Sign-ups for the next round of Numb3rs Slash Ficathons open next month, but I've got a problem. I've come up with several possible themes for this round, but I can't choose between them! So I'm asking for your help. I'm going to briefly lay out the four themes I'm considering, and then ask you to vote for the one you like best. (It doesn't mean the others are off the table, just means they won't be used this round. *g*)

Themes:

~Guest Characters: You’ll be assigned one of the guest characters that have graced Numbers, such as Lt. Walker. (You will be given the opportunity to choose one guest character you wouldn’t write if we paid you to, so no worries that you’ll get the one character you don’t want to write.) You must include that character in your fic. Their role can be as large or as small as you like.

~Episode Titles: You’ll be assigned an episode title from another series, such as BtVS (Lie to Me), Ats (Why We Fight), SPN (All Hell Breaks Loose), NCIS (SWAK) . . . Use that as the inspiration, however obliquely, for your fic.

~These 50 States: You’ll be assigned a state. Send your guys (or ladies) there for school, work or play. Did you get Idaho? Maybe Colby takes Charlie home to meet his parents. New Jersey? Maybe Don visits Charlie at school. New Mexico? Maybe Coop visits Don in Albuquerque. Colorado? Maybe David and Colby take a weekend off to go skiing . . . .

~Fusion: Stick your favorite Numb3rs characters into another fandom. This is not a crossover, exactly; you write your fic as if your characters have always been part of that ‘verse. For example, maybe Don leads a Stargate team, or maybe Amita is called after Kendra dies, or maybe David and Colby are hunters who visit the Roadhouse to get some help from Ash . . . .

It’s August 29th, which means there’s one month to go before the deadline. *bounce* I’m sure you’ve all been working very hard on your stories (*cough* just like me *cough*).

I wanted to remind everyone that, if you’re having trouble making your prompt work, you can take advantage of our one-time offer and ask us to assign you another prompt. (We merely ask that you not make the request on a whim, but only after due consideration. *g* Thanks.)

And, if you’re going to ask, do it soon, because I’ll be out of town (and sadly, away from the internet) from Sunday, September 10 through Sunday, September 17, and if you wait, you’ll have less than two weeks to play with your new prompt. ADMIN: Clarification on What’s ‘Allowed’

A couple of people have asked about the type of fic that is allowed for the ficathon. The two main questions have been about crossovers and threesomes. I thought it might be a good idea to share my answers to them with all of you.

Crossovers: Allowed, but we’d prefer that the fic take place in the Numb3rs ‘verse and that the pairings remain solely Numb3rs characters. We don't want, for example, a BtVS fic with a few Numb3rs characters thrown in. ETA: I think a better way to say what I tried to say here is this, that while crossovers are okay, the fic should be Numb3rs focused. Clear as mud? *g*

Threesomes: Allowed, but we’d prefer that the ‘base pairing’ be m/m or f/f slash, and that you’re not trying to slip a het pairing in under the radar by making it a threesome fic.

We’re not trying to stifle anyone’s muse, but this is a Numb3rs Slash Ficathon, and we’re looking for Numb3rs slash fic so please just use your best judgment.
