Prompt#102: Confession: "Her admission"
so far, this is only a 3-part story.

Title: Her admission.
Short series: Lewis.
Pairing/Characters: Amita, OMC.
Prompt: #102: Confession.
Rating: PG-13

Summary: In India, Amita tells her betrothed* about Charlie.
(* = if there’s a better English word, I don’t know it…but then, that’s not difficult)
Word Count: 300.
Spoilers: 1.01, mention of 2.14

Notes: Don’t worry, I’m not giving up on the Rachel Eppes series – but Amita batted those lovely eyes of hers, and asked me to tell this story.
Disclaimer: I own none of the canon characters. If anyone wants to use Lewis, go right ahead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In India, Amita was introduced to the nice banker she’d been arranged to marry years ago. After the initial meet-and-greet, they met up a little later at a public gardens.
“Lewis?” Amita asked, slightly incredulous.
He nodded. “My parents named me after their favorite author.”
“C.S. Lewis?”
“Him,” Lewis confirmed.
“Your parents named you after the author of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’?”
“That and ‘Lives of a Cell.’ Natural history’s something of a hobby for most of my family.”
“I see. Well, Lewis,” Amita said, “I really hate to tell you this – I mean, you’re a nice guy, and my grandmother likes you, and…” You’re a hard worker, loyal. You’re successful, but that’s neither here nor there.
“Take your time,” he said. “There’s no hurry.”
“I can’t marry you.” Her tone was gentle, her face apologetic…
…and her words a sack of bricks. “Oh,” Lewis said, looking down at his hands. “There is another. I understand.”
“I’d like you to, yeah,” Amita said, and started describing Charlie – intelligence, sense of humour, and all the little quirks that made him so lovable in her eyes. She nearly left one detail out, but eventually decided to mention it last, in as casual a manner as the situation allowed: Charlie wasn’t Indian.
When she finished, she watched him for his reaction.
He didn’t stomp off or slap her or curse her. Didn’t denounce her or say she’d never get away with it.
…instead, Lewis said to Amita, “Could I have a few days to mull this over? Mind you, I have no objection to you being with a man you love…however, our families may require some convincing.”
“Take all the time you need,” Amita said. I might be back in the States in a few days, but take all the time you need.
Huh...you know, in all this time - I never even thought about this. Kudos to you for writing it for us. I'm not much for an Amita/Charlie ship but it has to be better than an arrange marriage...though I'm glad Lewis seems nice enough. :) *is curious about more*
PS I LOVE the bit about CS Lewis. Nice job!
I've thought about doing a story about Amita's fiance and how he would react to Amita not marrying him. I'm interested to see what you have planned. (Lewis, eh, not a very Indian name... ;-))
I'd love to read such a story. (and wouldn't object to being the beta)
as for this series, I think Lewis is an optimist.
as to the name - well, "Thomas" was an option...but in India, that's a surname.
Amita's one of my favorite characters, so I'd been thinking about this facet of her life. It's nifty to see another author doing so, too, and writing such an engaging series about it!
