About
Welcome.

This is a closed writing community created by [info]iamleaper and [info]hellbait to create a collaborative writing experience.

The project?

To create a novel... one chapter at a time.

No set plot. No set characters. No constraints on the creativity of the authors.

Here's how it works: five to seven authors gather to create a novel. One writes the first chapter, the next the second, and so on. They go in order, composing chapters one after another based only on the chapters that have come before.

In this, we hope to create a work of written art unparalleled in LiveJournal form... or, at least, have some fun while we're at it.

Currently we have seven authors and our Author's Circle is full. If you are interested, you're welcome to submit an application to be a backup author, or read along as we go.

[info]glamourcharm
Name: Marissa
Alias: glamourcharm
Age: 19
Website: n/a
Occupation: Theatre & English Major/Actress/Theatrical Designer/Lady Makin’ the Pancakes
Writing experience: I’ve been writing for a long, long time with a recent dry spell. Submitted work (prose, drama and essay) to various competitions. Dabble in fan fiction (but most of it stays off the ‘net). I am best at prose and essay. My poetry is unthinkably trite. I still feel that I’m quite the amateur.
Favorite quote:
“The real or fancied indifference of some man or woman I love,
The sickness of one of my folks—or of myself…or ill-doing…or loss or lack
of money…or depressions or exaltations.
They come to me days and nights and go from me again,
But they are not the Me myself.”
-Walt Whitman, Song of Myself
Theme song: “That Day” by Natalie Imbruglia

Writing experience: For the most part, a poet, but a playful and thoughtful one. However, I've written ten or so chapters of a cycle novel previously.
Favorite quote: "Act in such a way that you always treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, never simply as a means but always at the same time as an end." -Kant
Theme song: Warning - Incubus

Are you interested in joining our group? Here's what we expect:
  • You must be dedicated to the cause. We expect you to post a chapter within four days of your turn coming around.
  • You must follow characterization. Please do not make characters act... well, out of character. Yes, your only basis for their personality may be a passing mention in a previous chapter by a different author, but adhere to that.
  • Respect the work of the writer before you. Don't completely undo another author's work with a few sentences of your new chapter. In other words, read what has been written before and try to make some sort of logical sense of it. This isn't random mish-mash.
  • ACTIVITY. If you go inactive for more than two turns, you will be kicked out and replaced. If you will be gone for an extended period of time, let one of the two maintainers of the community know.
  • Please proofread and spell-check your work. We aren't grammar nazis, but simple misspellings that can be caught with spellcheck will not be tolerated. (As a side note, please learn to pluralize. Excessive use of apostrophes will be grounds for a bitching from Lauren.)
  • Please submit your chapters with titles. For example Chapter Fifteen - A Boy Falls in a Hole.
  • Adhere to the format of posted chapters. There is to be an empty line between all paragraphs. Italicize words that should be italicized. Use proper punctuation and quotation marks.

How, exactly, will this all work? Basically, there will be five to seven authors in a set order. Each author will have four days to write and post their chapter -- which can be any length as long as it adds to the story -- before the next person in the order starts. If an author takes longer than four days, their turn is automatically skipped and the next author in the order takes up the writing of the next chapter. If an author skips two turns in a row, they are automatically out of the group unless there are severe circumstances. The story can go in any direction with any characters as long as it remains coherent.

Why do you want to join the Novel Project?:
Please submit a REQUIRED example of your writing, 300 to 500 words in third person POV, with a five foot long loaf of French bread as your prompt. You can do anything with this prompt as long as the bread appears in there somewhere, but make sure it is a good showing of your writing. If you have writing posted elsewhere, please submit a link as well as the bread example.
