AboutThis is a multi-fandom icon challenge for clean and simple icons. This is about being clever with cropping, text and very simple effects. Those of you who use Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro have access to tools many people don't have which puts you in a different league than those of us with Paint or Graphic Converter. This community is designed to focus more on the concept of the icon than the highly stylized pictures and text so often seen in general icon contest communities.
Does this mean that if I use Photoshop or other 'fancy' programs that I can't post here? No. Not really. But the images and text in your entries must be clear with few effects used. Can I get into your brain or your computer to see what program you're using? Of course not. But I can see the result. If you're posting 'fru fru' icons here, I'll probably redirect you to more general icon comms.
So what kind of 'effects' aren't considered 'fru fru'? If you can do it with the free graphic program that came with your computer, it's probably fine. I'm thinking of programs like Paint for PCs and Graphic Converter for Macs. Cropping, sizing, changing color along one color line (for example the whole thing is in shades of blue, or black and white), cutting and pasting pieces of different pictures together, text and hand drawn lines or images (arrows, smiley faces, whatever) would be examples. We should not see anything with brushes or textures here.
What kind of contests will be run? There will be two contests each week. One will be a general topic contest like 'love' or 'green' or 'boys will be boys'. This contest will be open to any fandom you feel like crafting an icon for. ALL kinds of icons will be accepted - het/gen/slash/whatever. Nasty comments on someone's chosen pairing, grouping or whatever will result in being banned from the community. If you don't like it, don't vote for it, but don't slam it.
The other contest will be a featured fandom. Make an icon of any sort for the fandom of the week.
Suggestions for both themes and fandoms of the week would be lovely. If you're suggesting a fandom, please include a link to at least one publicly accessible image site.
The goal here is to be funny, be profound, be pithy, be smart. And keep your images visible and your text readable.
