The concom will vote for their favorites, and they will be sent to Offworld Designs to be included in the t-shirt designs to choose from this year.
Your design doesn't have to be a finished work of art. You can do a rough sketch, or even a good description of your idea (for us unartistic types).
Good luck!
Spooky October Norwescon Concom Meeting
oooOOOOoooOOOOooooooo....
Will there be punch with CO2 fog spilling over the bowl? er, probably not.
Will there be candy? um, sure! Although asking the little glasses the hotel puts them into 'Trick or Treat' could be a disappointment.
Will there horrific stories of departments progress towards an Awesome Norwescon 32? Yes! Yes there will be.
Spine tingling stories from Programming, Member Services and the Vice Chair!
Weird tales from Convention Services and the Chair.
No bobbing for apples, but you may be able to pick up that fancy new position in your favorite department!
And just maybe we'll make it out alive.
Why?
Two words: Zombie uprising.
The fun starts at 11 AM with the Executive Team portion. Becky tells me this is not nearly as scary as you might think it is, and it's open to all ages.
There's a nice break from 1:30 to 2 PM
Then the horror! the Horror! The ConCom meeting - 2 to 2:45 PM
Departments put their people on the rack from 2:45 to 4 PM in the breakouts.
Finally we Resurrect... her Reconvene the ConCom - 4 PM to finish.
Once we adjourn we will have an after-meeting social. The place will
be posted on the website, and directions will be available at the meeting.
Future Norwescon 32 meetings will follow approximately the same
schedule, although the Executive Team portion may start earlier or
later depending on the needs of the team.
Parking is $8.00 -- bring your parking ticket to the meeting to scan
for our special price.

Hello, I am just trying to get the word out about a portal that has been created to draw together LARPers in the Portland and Salem, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, areas. We are looking for all kinds of LARPers from boffer players, to socio-political players, to horror players, to comedy players, to medieval players, so on and so forth, to get together and network. There will be resources for GMs and Players from all backgrounds of games, and we are looking to add more. We are also looking to get the word out about games, conventions, and chronicles/long running games.
You can find the site at:
http://www.shaglarp.com
Thanks!
SHAG
There were cannons, and sasparilly, and sparring demonstrations, a stilt walker (those were the LONGEST peglegs ever!), fabulous costumes, and vendors for clothes and leather goods, and all kinds of piratey stuff! We spent WAY too much money, but had such a good time doing it!
We got into the mood by dressing as much like pirates as we could - which in our case meant shirts made with pirate-themed fabric. It was just as well we didn't get too dressed up. It absolutely POURED rain for about 20 minutes at one point, and we got soaked to the skin.
Michael bought a leather pirate hat from Vic (of all people! I remember when he made vampire teeth,) I tried one on, but I just don't like wearing anything on my head. I bought two new Captain Boggs CDs. The folks at work are probably getting tired of hearing nothing but pirate music from my cubicle this week!
We need more pirates at Norwescon! I think they fit the theme, and a little swagger and cheek could only add to the atmosphere, right? Oh! We could do a chant ala Wizard of Oz: Aliens, Pirates, and Elves? Oh My!
This was the third Pirate Festival, and I hope they are already planning for next year. I would love to do a day trip with a whole group. Fun!
I plugged in my computer to charge a bit during the break at the meeting, and forgot to pack the cord up again. Anybody? Help?
also, any suggestions for an after meeting social next month?
I'd like to invite you to join the "norwescon" room on FriendFeed, a place for us to share and discuss things. I hope you'll join the room. You can check it out here: http://friendfeed.com/rooms/norwescon
Just getting it set up and figuring it out, so there's not too much there yet...
New barriers with be made for this Norwescon. The old ones will be retired soon.
It has been suggested that old school Lazer Tag from the 80s have a night to play (to remember our roots). I have Worlds of Wonder Lazer Tag and Survivor Shot. for this.
I need feed back and ideas to keep Lazer Tag fresh.
- Location:arena
- Mood:
bouncy - Music:lets lazer Tag someone
My butterflies aside, I hope this meeting will be good for several things. You'll get introduced to your execs (lots of "new" faces), hear some good things (hotel contract, newsletter, etc.), and begin making plans for 32.
At the concom meeting we will have some rather special munchies: we are having an English Tea (sort of) in celebration of Bert Carlson. Hospitality was her forte, and this is our way of celebrating her participation in Norwescon over the last few years. If you didn't know Bert, we'll speak briefly of her at the meeting. Special thanks to Art and Eleanor for their help with this!
After the meeting we'll go to Bullwinkles restaurant at the Family Fun Center just east of Southcenter Mall. You can catch the announcement in an earlier LJ entry posted by our own Jeff Cornish.
If you have ideas for future after-meeting socials, please pass them on! If you have ideas about anything, please pass them on too. We would LOVE the input!
If you can't make it tomorrow, check the web-site for updates, and watch for the e-Newsletter! If you haven't gotten yours, go to the web-site and sign up! I can't tell you how excited I am about it!!
Becky Citrak, Chair
Norwescon 32
You can play mini-golf, go-karts, lazer tag, and video games. We'll supply the pizza and soda!
Maps to the Fun Center will be available at the meeting.

And if you pick your spot to observe them, you can see that annual spectacle as fen from across the area join the...

So would people be interested in doing something similar at NWC? Could be a fun way to meet people.
At the first meeting I am going to talk to who ever is in charge of volunteers and see if we could get some NWC departments to also take part. Work for an hour, earn a button...
Even if no other department does this, I might do it for the Casino.
here are some of the details from PAX:

NWSFS will be having an outing to both of them, so you can decide which one (or both) of them you wish to attend. All of these shows are general admission seating so make sure you show up early if you wish to seat with the NWSFS group.
In Sept we are attending the Kiddie Kabaret on Sunday Sept 14th for the 2:30pm show. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for kids under 12. I would suggest buying tickets in advance as they tend to sell out.

In October we will be attending the Adult themed Cabaret on Friday October 24th at 8pm. This is a 21 and over only show. Tickets are $18. I would suggest buying tickets in advance as they tend to sell out.

Registering online, I totally lied that I had read the Norwescon rules and policies.

For those who do not know Jess’s shop burned this morning. Here are some particulars straight from the horse’s mouth so to speak.
The fire occurred between 2:30 and 5 this morning, engines from both the reservation and Marysville quickly responded and after a 2+ hour battle got the fire under control and out. Preliminary investigation has labeled it “as undetermined cause of the fire”, there is some speculation that it may have been arson but nothing solid enough for the investigator to label it as such with out further proof. Damage to the shop is total, some fire damage to the House and extensive heat damage to the parked vehicles near the shop. As the article states there was no loss of life which Jess is very thankful for. However this right on the tale end of his loosing Sue (not more than 8 weeks ago) has been quite a blow to him.
I just spent about 3 hours talking with him and finding out what his plans are. He intends to rebuild the shop on the back of the property. He will need help though and at my request he has given me a list of items he will need eventually to rebuild his shop and get back to full on sword making. I will pass this list on to those that email me as it is quite extensive for this post. He still has tentative plans to attend Crown, but with what little stock he has left that was not destroyed in the fire his focus is getting what little of the shop remains up and running as soon as possible. Currently they do not have a phone, power or water at the ranch as the fire destroyed the entire power pole which housed not only the main power box for the property but the meter as well. They are waiting on PUD to tell them what type of box is needed for them to regain power and water (pump house was wired directly to the pole), until such time as this occurs they are doing OK. There is propane to run the heat and stove.
Please pass this on to any whom you believe could help either in supplies to rebuild the shop or tools to outfit it. As I know more I will pass it on to you all.
Jay

TRUE LIFE: I’M A FAN BOY
Are you obsessed with comic books, anime, fantasy, or manga? Do you like to dress up as your favorite character and attend conventions with other fans? Have you ever waited in line overnight for a book, movie, or videogame release? Do you have tattoos depicting your favorite brand or characters? Have you ever missed work, school, or other important events to engage in role-playing or cosplay? Are you misunderstood by your family or significant other because of it? Have you ever been told to “grow up” by someone important to you? If you’re an obsessed fanboy (or girl), MTV wants to hear from you.
If you appear to be between the ages of 16 and 28 and identify with any of the above, MTV wants to hear your story. Email us at fanboy@mtvn.com. Please be sure to include your name, location, phone number, and a recent photo.
If you were a subscriber to the old forums, sadly you will have to re-register, but on the bright side, it gives you the chance to enter a cool new screen name (or you can use the old one if you really liked it a lot). As always, don't forget to tell all of your friends and fellow con goers about the forums. Norwescon is YOUR convention, and your input is always welcome.
See you in the forums
Respectfully,
The Norwescon Forums Team

I have great memories of the con, but my cats didn't and ruined my t-shirt. This is the maroon t-shirt with GoH Stan Robinson. I'd prefer a size small, but medium or large would be okay. I've already tried the printer Offworld Designs, and they're out stock.
"Greetings, all.
I received permission this weekend to tell people what's going on
with Alexander James Adams, heir to Heather Alexander.
I'll just lay it out: Alec and Kore are about to lose their beloved - and
inspiring - 30 acres. You hear about it all the time at concerts and in
songs and patter on CDs. They are facing the F-word: Foreclosure. They have
this month (August) to cough up enough money to keep the land and to protect
it.
That being the case, this is a *really* good time to buy any of his or
Heather's merchandise you have been meaning to buy - in addition to the CDs,
there's now a songbook of Heather's stuff. Additionally, he's working on
other projects to bring in funds - threatening an "Adopt a Faery" program,
among other things. Check the below websites for information...
http://www.faerietaleminstrel.com/
http://www.heatherlands.com/index.php?s
Please pass this word on to those you think might want to know, and to
choose now to buy Heather or Alec CDs, and look for a new album, and clever
fundraising ideas.
Truly believing that in sending this missive I am serving the Dream,
Mir"
The Norwescon website has been stolen! I know this because I just checked, and it wasn't there.
Instead there is a much cooler website with information on Norwescon 32 Guests of Honor such as R.A. Salvatore--N.Y. Times Best Selling Author, Todd Lockwood--Chesley Award Winning Artist, Spotlighted Publisher Wizards of the Coast and Special Guest Geno Salvatore, and links to each of these talented persons' (or organization's) websites.
Be on the lookout for the old Norwescon webpage. It is suspected of missing information on Norwescon Guests of Honor, as well as missing Norwescon News and Events, a handy link to the Norwescon Forum. It should be considered mostly harmless if found and captured.
A reward of free hotdogs, burgers, sodas, cookies, bubbles, and bad puns has been posted for the safe return of the old Norwescon Website, or to any Norwescon Volunteers, friends, family and assorted hangers-on who attend. The reward can be collected at the Norwescon Volunteer Picnic, at Steel Lake Park in Federal Way, Picnic Site 1, on Saturday, August 2nd.
Why come to the Norwescon Barbecque on Saturday August 2nd?
Find out just how many sodas can be fit into a kiddy pool!
Schmooze with other Norwescon Volunteers and the Norwescon Concom.
Have the opportunity to complement this year's Lifetime Membership Award recipients, the Pawtowskis!
And bring some cash, because the Lost and Found will be auctioned off the highest bidder! (seriously, the highest bidder, we tried 3rd highest bidder one year... not so popular) Books, jewelry, costume weapons, fine outerware, things that blink, bounce, boing and beep, catchy buttons and other assorted stuff will be up on the block!
Complete your costume! Buff up your Bookcase! Enhance your set of earrings. Get that one perfect thing for your dearest!
See you there!
