Medieval Fair April 3-5

Held annually since 1976, this event relives the Middle Ages with arts and crafts, food, games, jousting tournaments, human chess games, costume contests, and more. The Medieval Fair of Norman is the state's largest weekend event and the third largest event in Oklahoma, and is held at Reaves Park, 10am to 7pm, for three days. http://www.medievalfair.org/

Car Seat Check Friday!

The Norman Police Department will be hosting a child passenger safety check-up event at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds 1-3 p.m. Friday. This is in conjunction with the Just Between Friends children’s clothing consignment sale. A limited amount of car seats are available for eligible families.

It is estimated four out of five car seats are installed incorrectly, Master Police Officer Jennifer Newell said. Those with questions may call Newell at 366-5267. Transcript Article

15th Annual Norman Mardi Gras Parade - Celebrating Ancient Cultures. Starts 6:45 p.m. Saturday. Step off begins at the Santa Fe Depot on Jones St. and goes north to Main.

Featuring stuffed animals, real animals, Moon Pies, beads, life size characters, a seven-foot fox, Victory Dolls Roller Derby team, Rowdy the Redhawk, SCA, belly dancers, fire hoop dancers, McMichael's Electric Guitar Band, Little River Zoo staff and animals and Friends of the Dog Park, with Doggie Gras, including dogs and owners in costume. A new music studio is opening in Norman and will offer lots of classes including piano, guitar, and voice, as well as visual art, movement, improvisation, and composition. Bumbo Baby Seats - New Warnings

Bumbo International is providing new warning label stickers and instructions to Bumbo owners. http://www.bumbosafety.com/ The seats are not being recalled - parents are just being reminded to never put the seat on an elevated surface. Our daughter started wiggling herself out of her Bumbo seat around 5-6 months of age.

I took this photo yesterday at Native Roots Market (http://nativerootsmarket.com/) on Main & Santa Fe. They made it out of cardboard, bottlecaps and what not ... you know, what most people would consider trash. I think this is a great store ... they sell food from a lot of local farms, as well as other organic meat, dairy and produce and organic baby/kid food. I think they are taking orders for organic turkeys for Thanksgiving. And they're having a 'grand opening' event (even though they're already open) on Nov. 16th from 7-9pm with samples of local foods & beverages, live music and an opportunity to meet the farmers.

The Cleveland County Health Department provides immunizations at no cost for children 18 and under. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Thursday from 8 - 11am and 1 - 4pm. Take a copy of your child's existing immunization record if possible.
