No Pity. No Shame. No Silence.
Surviving Sexual Violence
About:
Welcome Here

I'm a survivor of sexual violence.
No Pity. No Shame. No Silence.

No Pity. No Shame. No Silence.

This community was inspired by [info]misia's post No Pity. No Shame. No Silence. This is a forum for support and expression to those who have survived or know people who are survivors of Sexual Violence.

Due to some unfortunate incidents with harrassment, we had to make this a closed community. So far, that has worked to everyone's advantage and hasn't seemed to cause any problems. If you apply to the community and have no public posts in your journal, no user information or method of contact in your bio, or your public posts don't tell us a little bit about you (if your journal is wholly or for the most part "friends only"), we will unfortunately have to refuse your application to join the community. We decide to approve someone based on our sense of the person who is applying, as best we can determine from that person's journal. If it looks strange or suspicious, chances are that we will not add you. Don't take it personally. To make the application process smoother, please ensure that you have some information in your bio that tells us a bit about you before you apply, and includes a method of contact in case we have questions. Thank you very much. [added 08.19.05]

Our Simple Rules:

Before you join – read this page. Ignorance of the rules does not mean you may break the rules.

Respect. Respect each other, respect the community, and, most of all, respect yourselves.

- Please refrain from posting quizzes and the like. Please do not promote other communities unless they are of a similar nature to ours and may be of help to our members.

- - The LJ-Cut feature is your friend. If you have a long post, or a post with details and triggers that may upset other readers please use this feature. This allows other members to digest at their own pace. Thank you. (If you need help with this feature, please see FAQ #75)

While we want every single member here to feel free to post what they need to post to get it out of their system, we also need to respect the fact that some of our members have been through similar experiences. For those members, even reading about similar experiences can trigger painful and emotionally charged memories. In some cases where the member may have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, the person is taken back to that incident, and physically feels the incident all over again.

To avoid this, and show respect for each other, we kindly request that any posts that have triggers, strong language, or highly disturbing imagery should be posted in an LJ-cut along with a warning. We have been lax about this rule in the past, but have (from the growth of our community) come to realize that we need to enforce this rule more strictly than we have in the past.

Any post that is triggering, and not behind an LJ-Cut will be warned. From that time, the user has 24 hours to LJ-cut the entry. If the entry is not LJ-Cut within 24 hours, the entry will be deleted.

If you happen to see a post that might be triggering, it is okay to gently remind your fellow community members to place it behind a cut as a comment in that thread. Emphasis on gently. If you are not comfortable with making a request to the person directly, feel free to contact any one of the mods and we will be happy to handle it. We want this community to be as open and helpful as possible, but everyone needs to remember to have respect for one another. Thank you all for your generous assitance to your fellow survivors.

- You may lock your post and make it private; there is nothing wrong with that and no one will mind.

- You may use the banners we've provided to spread our community's message. No permission needed to use the banner or to link here.

A Safe Place

- This is a safe place for Survivors of Sexual Violence and all those who support Survivors. Everyone is welcome here, and moderators will support everyone in feeling safe. If you feel unsafe, let a moderator know, and we will address the issue.

- Do not link to someone’s personal journal without permission.

- No harassment of any kind, against anyone, or by anyone will be tolerated. Period.

Moderating and Moderators

- Moderators reserve the right to delete posts, and to ban for offenses as outlined by these rules, but not limited to these rules. We will consult as a team and make an announcement on any decision of this nature.

- Only members may post in the community. Only members may comment in the community. Membership is no longer open to all, due to trolling incidents. Members who comment with the intention of mocking or personally insulting other members are also violating the rules and appropriate action will be taken.

Trolling will not be tolerated. There are no exceptions.
