Hmm, Moksa. It’s fascinating to note that the word is synonymous with Nirvana, a post-mortem state of bliss, the final release, the ultimate ending - or Heaven? Hmm, ominous but very interesting ...

... I wonder: has anyone discovered what they were - ah - required to learn? Has anyone managed to leave?

It was Friday.

And he was nervous.

It was a weird feeling. Kaito Kuroba didn't get nervous with girls. Sure, there was that giddy fluttering feeling in his stomach when he first asked them out, and there was always a blush or two while he was with them, but nervousness? There was never a reason to be nervous. They were just cute girls, after all. It wasn't anything he couldn't handle.

But with Aoko, things were different. Maybe it was because he actually cared about her. Maybe it was because she was his best friend. Maybe it was because he had known her since she was six (although shouldn't that have made it easier?) Whatever it was, it had him trying his best to make sure that everything was perfect for this date.

Although how different was it going to be from their previous outings? They had gone to the movies together before. Then again, back then they were going as just friends. It was funny how a few words could seemingly change everything so quickly.

He needed to stop worrying about it.

Kaito tried his hardest not to over think anything as he finally made his way up to Aoko's front porch. He stared at the front door for a long moment, wondering what Inspector Nakamori would say if he answered. Did the good Inspector know? Would he pull Kaito aside and lecture him? Or would he just--

Now he really needed to stop thinking about it.

With a sigh that anyone around him would have heard, he lifted a hand and knocked on the door, silently willing himself to calm down.

It was just Aoko, after all.

Kaito reclined in his chair, his feet propped up on his desk, as he stared idly out the window next to it. Around him, his classmates were slowly filing into the classroom for the day. Some were conversing with each other, comparing their weekends. Others were sitting quietly by themselves, reading books or putting the final touches on their homework. Kaito was doing neither, having opted to watch a small blue bird leap around the windowsill and wish he could be outside doing something much more fun instead.

Aoko hadn't been at school when he arrived. Which was strange, because the young girl was usually always there before him (on the days they didn't walk to school together, of course). Ah well, her father had probably kept her late or something. It wasn't anything he needed to worry about (unless she didn't show up at school at all. Which would have been odd).

The magician sighed and shifted in his seat. He was bored already, and the teacher hadn't even started lecturing.

When Aoko approached him and asked if he wanted to go camping with her and her father over the coming weekend, Kaito had immediately responded to the affirmative. They hadn’t done anything like that in a long time, and it sounded like fun.

It was for this reason that she found herself squeezed into a car with her best friend and her father and all the necessary equipment for a few days outside, reconnecting with Mother Nature.

Aoko stared at scenery when they arrived to the campgrounds. It was a beautiful day for camping out, and it was supposed to be a great night for sleeping under the stars. Plus, wherever they were going was right next to a lake, so plenty of fun opportunities there.

The campsite they’d gone to was out in the middle of nowhere, and so Aoko suggested that they take a hike in the woods. It was the perfect day for it, and the trees would provided plenty of shade. While Ginzo opted to stay behind and set up the campsite, the two teenagers headed off into the woods to enjoy what was left of the late afternoon.

It was over.

Almost two full years of searching, hiding, fighting and fearing for their lives. Twenty-three long months of dead ends and retracing their steps, of lying to their friends and having to look down to talk to Kudo, of lying awake at night and getting jumpy every time someone suspicious in black walked into a room.

Another several long days of police reports and explanations, arrests and news interviews, witness stands and hospital visits -- both for himself and others. Several more after that of tears and confessions, story-telling and name calling... and plenty of hurt and anger, even if it was mixed in with relief.

( Okay, so it was mostly over. )

Aoko sighed heavily.

Really, she should have known better. She wasn't cut out for this. Her acting experience amounted to all of a few hours of drama class in grade school, and she wasn't a very artsy person to begin with. Compared to students who had been spending a good part of their high school years acting and putting on plays, she was as green as they came.

Thinking back on it, she honestly couldn't say what had possessed her to volunteer for this year's play, much less the female lead. The theme had come up in class, and for some reason everyone had thought she'd be perfect for the role. Aoko failed to see how, but how could she say no to all of her classmates? Even Hakuba had agreed, strange as it had seemed at the time.

At least it wasn't too bad. She didn't have any particular sense of stage fright, and as long as she was careful to memorize her lines and cues, she should do all right. Keiko-chan was working on her costume, and some of the last-year students came in to rehearsals to offer help and advice. All in all, it wasn't bad.

Except for one thing.

Feeling a hand not-so-subtly inching towards the hem of her skirt, Aoko took her rolled-up script and smacked it, hard. Kaito retreated quickly, nursing the appendage in question and giving her a sulky look. "Oi!"

Aoko just gave her fellow lead a hard look. She still didn't know what had possessed Kaito to volunteer for the male lead, either. Of course, he was an excellent actor, but he'd never bothered with the drama classes before. He'd always just gone off and done his own thing, whatever that happened to be. But for whatever reason, he'd decided to sign up this year.

And now they were here, in the open and echoing school auditorium, after dark, with everyone else gone home, practicing their lines because Kaito could not get through a complete rehearsal without wandering off-task or off-topic. Aoko had no doubt that he had all his lines memorized, but it wasn't going to do her any good if she wasn't able to practice them with him.

"Could you just try to focus, Kaito?" she asked sternly, folding her arms and giving him another Look. She wanted to go home, but she also wanted to get this right, and that wasn't going to happen unless he started cooperating.

Oi oi, have you all gone crazy? Considering the nature of this community and what it can do, you think you all would have left by now!

None of this is scientific. The theory of alternate dimensions is just that-- a theory. And yet for some reason this online community acts as a nexus for communication between worlds. Not to mention a gathering place for murderers and (apparently) thieves. Don't think I haven't seen you posting around the community, Kaitou Kid.

Guess I don't have any choice but to investigate the community-- like any good detective would do. Points of interest:

1) The community acts as a nexus between worlds. People can communicate with others in a completely different dimension using this website.
2) Every so often, the community is plagued by what the members call 'viruses.' These viruses can do anything, from changing key personality points to physical appearance.
3) 'Worldhoppers' are people (creatures?) with the ability to traverse from dimension to dimension. They can also bring along someone else if they want.
4) 'Gods' from Greek mythology apparently frequent this place as well.
5) I'm still not quite sure you all are telling the truth. This could be a roleplaying site, for all I know.
