Question Five was inspired by this fandom secret. *pets secreter* I like that they think they can't make friends by saying Ten is a bit of an asshole. Just wait till they spend a little more time in the fandom.

A bunch of interesting links.

Charlie Stross makes some excellent points about using Google Chrome. This is why I avoid Google Docs too. ETA before I posted: Google has reworded the agreement.. But as it isn't available for Linux, it's still a no-go for me.

An ad from Michaels reveals that Bernat now has glow-in-the-dark wool. *covets*

Glarkware has rereleased the Robin Sparkles road tour t-shirt but it's only available for the month of September.

Think Geek is selling off random t-shirts for cheap. If you don't care what your t-shirt says, this might be a good time to stock up. (I bought three oversized ones to sleep in.)

OMG update! [Sep. 3rd, 2008|11:10 pm]

paperfidelity
Oh back from the dead... or camp and Scotland.

So first things first, I did a massive makeover on my journal so it's a sweet new Secret Diaries of a Call Girl theme. I'm not set on the light green yet so I'm sure that will change soon enough. But yay pretty Billie!

Scotland rocked my world. I would so live in a lot of the places we visited if it would be possible some day. If people want to see them I can post pictures of some of the hilights including our night out in Glasgow with a Sontaran.

The end of camp was sad and all angsty. I'm still suffering from separation anxiety from some people for sure. At the same time I'm so thankful for the experience and how much I learned. I really know now what I'll be doing for the rest of my life. I also miss the freedom being away gave me.

Now if only I could find that job. Job hunting sucks like woah. I need that easy button from staples only for youth work not lisa frank notebooks.

I need to work on not thinking of ways to kill my mother. Tonight she flipped out about dishes in the sink. I cooked them dinner and they ate it. I guess she thought the dishes were magic and would clean themselves or something. She also said she 'had a hard day' today because she had to sweep and worked cleaning out the spare room. Hello she didn't even make dinner I did.

Also my computer is sucking balls. It's going to bite the big one before Thanksgiving I know it. I so don't want to deal with that.

random enough for everyone?

This is a strange request, but I'm looking for recs of fics that deal with parent-child relationships of the non-babyfic, non-wangst variety. Not quite sure how to qualify what exactly I want... not fluff, not any idiot misunderstanding angst or couple come to term with impending parenthood. No Jenny - real parenting stories. Preferrably one parent and one child. Preferrably snapshot style. I'd point out exactly the sort of story I mean, but it's in a fandom none of you know. I am willing to try out new fandoms on this, though.

Just a few recs. Be nice to me pls. I will give you kitty icon.

[mood | confused]

Since my flist pointed out to me that it was downloadable, I had a look this morning. I don't like that it installs on C:// and you can't change the default. From what I glanced at, it seems to be like IE in that case - not an exact folder but somewhere integrated. Feel free to prove me wrong on that, for one, I didn't have time this morning to check further.

On the what-can-it-do side, there's the comic google made for it. I found the link in the google news section:

http://www.chip.de/bildergalerie/Google-Chrome-Der-Comic-zum-Browser-Galerie_32707828.html

It's on a German site (some computer magazine), but the comic is in English.

*mourns dead computer and makes plans for resurrection* [Sep. 2nd, 2008|02:28 pm]

Caution: Incomprehensible computer jargon below.

My desktop computer had been refusing to boot on and off all weekend, so I opened it up this morning to spread some more heat sink compound on the cpu and when I went to replace it, I discovered that some of the pins were bent (and probably had been since the last time I did this) rendering the cpu unusable. The computer is old enough that replacing the cpu meant replacing the motherboard (because my motherboard was about 5 years old) and therefore the video card (PCIe instead of AGP). I'd been planning to do this in six months anyway, so I just went ahead and ordered the parts I needed. Hopefully they'll get here in time for me to tackle the disassembly and reassembly on Saturday morning.

At least I have my laptop as a backup. While I'm waiting, I pulled out my main hard drive and plugged it into the case I bought for it (before I needed to put it in the desktop). It's now connected to the Neuros though I should be able to connect it to the laptop too and get at my files.

I'm not looking forward to tweaking the OS for the new hardware, but the last time I did this, it ran without much tweaking. The only catch might be the switch to an NVidia video card.

It will be an improvement on speed and memory, but as my current system was more than adequate for my uses and I don't game, I didn't feel the need to go with the top of line components.

School properly starts up again tomorrow. Ugh. Real GCSE year... Well, I might scrape through Maths all right if the entire paper does not consist of graphs, and I'm semi-confident about Japanese, but for everything else, if July's mock tests were anything to go by? Yeah, completely fucked. I should've taken Music, everyone else took bloody Music. Damn you, skarme, passing up an easy A* just because you find the subject utterly tedious.

But still, no worries.

Isn't Pokemon Platinum coming out in Japan in less than two weeks? That's got to be pretty sweet. Sinnoh has been my least favourite generation to date *hides save file which passed the 700-hour mark yesterday* but damn, Giratina is cool enough to offset that. Woo, I've got something else to look forward to grovelling for when its 2047 European release rolls round.

And, um, that Torchwood radio play thing is also this month, right? Coinciding with the day we may or may not all die horribly? I kind of haven't been keeping up with any news recently, bleah.
