Ruleset Nominations: Poll!

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 10:35 PM
The nomination is as follows, a single proposal. Hence this poll will ask the question: do we start with the ruleset suggested, or shall we continue to seek a new one?

Convention, Game 3: Ruleset Proposals

  • Oct. 28th, 2009 at 9:56 PM
As the convention has been idle for two weeks, I hereby open up the floor for the proposal of new rulesets.

Naturally, there are no rules when the game is not in effect, but I suggest the following guidelines:

  • Each current player (defined as members who have answered the player list poll) may post up to two (2) candidate rulesets for Game 4. These rulesets should not be ideas - requests for feedback on such can be posted, but will not be considered candidate rulesets.
  • All rulesets shall be lj-cut. Do this by placing the string <lj-cut> before the first line of the ruleset and </lj-cut> after the final line.
  • Rulesets should be formatted clearly. Anyone interested in seeing the HTML code of previous rulesets to base their style off of may email me - I'll send you an example - but any style is permissible so long as each rule is clearly numbered and separated.

In a week and a half - Sunday, November 8th - I will review whatever proposals are current, and if it looks like people are ready to vote, I'll open a poll.

Player List Poll - Game 4

  • Oct. 18th, 2009 at 5:47 PM
As goes another game, so comes another player list poll! As before, the rules are simple:

If you'd like to play, you should join the community (which may be done here - PB) and fill in the 'poll' below, so that we can be completely certain that we have an accurate list of players. Please do remember to join the community: if you don't, you won't be able to post proposals or vote. Please don't join the community if you're not intending to play; all the game posts will be public, so non-member watchers won't be missing anything.

If there's people on your flist who might like to play, please link them to this post. And if you'd like more information, feel free to comment here or ask one of the maintainers ([info]active_apathy or [info]packbat).

When the game gets underway, the member list will be updated to match.
I hereby declare Game Three of [info]nomicide Concluded, with [info]palmer_kun the victor.

As no rules are presently in effect regarding a Constitutional Convention, I shall leave the operation of said Convention to its Head. [info]palmer_kun, take it away!

Paradox.

  • Oct. 9th, 2009 at 8:06 AM
I apologize for missing this for a week, but we (very conveniently, it seems) have had a paradox halting play.

As you know, Bob, Session Thirty-Five had (1) no new proposals and (2) voting on Proposal 377 by [info]palmer_kun.

Amend 337 to read
- - -
The game will proceed by sessions, with each session lasting one or more intervals and beginning at the conclusion of the previous except where otherwise stated. Sessions will be given a number for reference, beginning with 0. Each session consists of four parts, as follows:

1. At the opening of each session, the session poll will be opened. This poll shall allow all eligible voters to vote on each rule change proposed in the previous session, in the form in which they were proposed at the close of the previous session.
2. During each session, players may propose rule changes according to the rules then in effect.
3. The community maintainers will post a reminder entry before 72 hours prior to the close of the session, and again between 29 and 19 hours prior to the close of the session. These posts shall include details for each proposal posted during that session, including at least the proposals name and number, along with a summary of the proposal's contents.
4. At the end of each session, first, all current proposals shall be closed; second, all rule changes receiving sufficient votes will be enacted; and third, all score changes resulting from that session shall be effected.
5. If no proposals have been made during an interval, posting of the reminder posts specified in clause 3 above is not required.
6. If no proposals have been made by the end of an interval, the session length shall automatically be extended by one interval. This extension shall repeat until such time a proposal is made.

Note, then, the paradox.

1. If the session were to end, all current proposals receiving the votes to pass would have to go into effect.
2. However, if Proposal 377, which received the votes to pass, were in effect, the session would not end.
3. However, if the session were not to end, Proposal 377 would not go into effect.
4. However, if Proposal 377 were not in effect, the session would have to end.

I think, given the current situation, it would be appropriate to invoke Rule 215 and conclude the game with [info]palmer_kun the winner.

Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

Amend 348 replacing session with interval(and fixing grammar) to read:

Each time an interval passes with no new proposals, each player shall lose 10% of their score (rounded away from zero).

e.g.: 144 would lose 15 point to become 129. -32 would lose -4 points to become -28.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

376: Piggy Bank Withdrawals

  • Jun. 27th, 2009 at 8:35 AM
Amend 370 to add to the first paragraph:

A record will be kept of the net number of points deposited in the piggy bank by each player. If the score of a player who has deposited points in the piggy bank would ever drop below zero, that player shall automatically withdraw enough points from the piggy bank to (a) ensure that their score ends up zero or (b) reduce their net deposit to zero, whichever is less. Under no other circumstances may points be withdrawn.

It is a curious fact, but nobody ever is sea-sick - on land. At sea, you come across plenty of people very bad indeed, whole boat-loads of them; but I never met a man yet, on land, who had ever known at all what it was to be sea-sick. Where the thousands upon thousands of bad sailors that swarm in every ship hide themselves when they are on land is a mystery. - Jerome K. Jerome, Three Men in a Boat
