Amend 348 replacing session with interval(and fixing grammar) to read:

Each time an interval passes with no new proposals, each player shall lose 10% of their score (rounded away from zero).

e.g.: 144 would lose 15 point to become 129. -32 would lose -4 points to become -28.

Amend 337

  • Jun. 28th, 2009 at 3:16 PM
Amend 337 to read
- - -
The game will proceed by sessions, with each session lasting one or more intervals and beginning at the conclusion of the previous except where otherwise stated. Sessions will be given a number for reference, beginning with 0. Each session consists of four parts, as follows:

1. At the opening of each session, the session poll will be opened. This poll shall allow all eligible voters to vote on each rule change proposed in the previous session, in the form in which they were proposed at the close of the previous session.
2. During each session, players may propose rule changes according to the rules then in effect.
3. The community maintainers will post a reminder entry before 72 hours prior to the close of the session, and again between 29 and 19 hours prior to the close of the session. These posts shall include details for each proposal posted during that session, including at least the proposals name and number, along with a summary of the proposal's contents.
4. At the end of each session, first, all current proposals shall be closed; second, all rule changes receiving sufficient votes will be enacted; and third, all score changes resulting from that session shall be effected.
5. If no proposals have been made during an interval, posting of the reminder posts specified in clause 3 above is not required.
6. If no proposals have been made by the end of an interval, the session length shall automatically be extended by one interval. This extension shall repeat until such time a proposal is made.

- - -

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

376: Piggy Bank Withdrawals

  • Jun. 27th, 2009 at 8:35 AM
Amend 370 to add to the first paragraph:

A record will be kept of the net number of points deposited in the piggy bank by each player. If the score of a player who has deposited points in the piggy bank would ever drop below zero, that player shall automatically withdraw enough points from the piggy bank to (a) ensure that their score ends up zero or (b) reduce their net deposit to zero, whichever is less. Under no other circumstances may points be withdrawn.

It is a curious fact, but nobody ever is sea-sick - on land. At sea, you come across plenty of people very bad indeed, whole boat-loads of them; but I never met a man yet, on land, who had ever known at all what it was to be sea-sick. Where the thousands upon thousands of bad sailors that swarm in every ship hide themselves when they are on land is a mystery. - Jerome K. Jerome, Three Men in a Boat

Three-Day Reminder

  • Jun. 23rd, 2009 at 1:13 AM
So far, so quiet - 374 by [info]gible would require officeholders remain in positive-score territory, and no other rule-changes are proposed.

In the poll, with 4 votes in, 372 is passing and everything else is either tied between support and abstention or support and opposition.

Edit 1334 UTC: In the Herald Election, [info]palmer_kun is leading with 4 out of 5 votes; second place is a tie between [info]gible, [info]jonatan_kilhamn, and [info]stagemanager with 3 out of 5 each.

Office = Positive

  • Jun. 20th, 2009 at 10:53 AM
No player with a negative score shall be allowed to hold any office. If an office holding player's score becomes negative they immediately and automatically give up any offices they hold.

One-Day Reminder

  • Jun. 18th, 2009 at 8:41 AM
On the last day of the session, and the situation is as follows:
  • In the session poll, Proposal 370 by [info]gible, creating the piggy bank, is still in limbo with the same three votes - 1 supporter and 2 abstaining.
  • H102 by [info]packbat removes reminder-post responsibility from the Herald.
  • 371 by [info]packbat assigns penalties for late vote-posts to only one person.
  • 372 by [info]packbat defines two official copies of the [info]nomicide ruleset.

Reminder emails will go out to players who haven't voted whose emails I have.

372: Official Copies of the Ruleset

  • Jun. 17th, 2009 at 10:16 AM
The [info]nomicide community shall keep two official copies of the [info]nomicide ruleset. Each copy shall be the responsibility of the maintainer who posted the most recent version save where an office is specifically charged with the duty; in the latter case the officer in question is responsible. No individual shall be responsible for the maintenance more than one official copy of the ruleset; in a case where the above criteria would suggest that they are, they shall be considered responsible only for the ruleset they most recently updated.

The two official copies of the ruleset shall be as follows:

The Archival Ruleset

This ruleset shall record all changes to the ruleset, organized by kind and serial number. The [info]nomicide Game 1 and Game 2 Rulesets - currently available at http://community.livejournal.com/nomicide/926.html and http://community.livejournal.com/nomicide/39342.html - are examples of rulesets of this kind.

The Reference Ruleset

This ruleset shall record all rule-text currently in effect, organized by content. (Thus, for example, the rules describing victory conditions and results thereof might be collected under a "Winning the Game" header.) Where ambiguity and conflict exist within the rules, addition of clarifying notes (with references) is strongly encouraged.

People understand instinctively that the best way for computer programs to communicate with each other is for each of them to be strict in what they emit, and liberal in what they accept. The odd thing is that people themselves are not willing to be strict in how they speak and liberal in how they listen. Three-Day Reminder

  • Jun. 15th, 2009 at 8:03 PM
With 3½ days remaining, the session stands as follows:
  • In the session poll, Proposal 370 by [info]gible, creating the piggy bank, is in limbo with 1 supporter and 2 abstaining.
  • H102, proposed by [info]packbat, purports to remove the Herald's ability and responsibility to post reminders of upcoming vote posts - specifically by removing their ability to post reminders of any posts they are not allowed to post.
  • 371, proposed by [info]packbat, adjusts the late-penalty for vote posts to only penalize one person, to be selected based on whoever touched it last (so to speak).

Otherwise, all is quiet. (Although shouldn't there have been a post from the Diploma... oh, wait, never mind!)

371: Vote Post Responsibility

  • Jun. 12th, 2009 at 7:54 PM
Amend 342 to read:

If a [info]nomicide vote post is late by a period of time in excess of twelve hours, the person responsible for posting the delayed vote post shall lose one point for each hour or part thereof, in total, that the vote post is delayed. Said person shall be the one among those empowered by the rules to post the delayed vote post who most recently posted a vote post reminder - or, if no such person posted a vote post reminder in the session with the delayed vote post, the person who posted the vote post immediately prior. If no person meeting these criteria exists, no penalty shall be exacted.
