Anyone up for a little speculation?
Just like with the "real" Ats, I am absolutely on the edge of my seat as the Ats:NL season finale is drawing close! I can't help but find myself wondering what we are in store for! I certainly trust that [info]thebratqueen and [info]flaming_muse way more than the JW and DG now, so I feel it's safe to expect something cool!

Spoilers for Ats:NL are too hard even for me to find! (Believe me, I tried, but alas Spoiler Slayer and TWoP are not covering Ats:NL for some reason that I can't understand :-P) However, I have read up through 6.19, so if you are not there yet, what I am about to discuss could be spoilery to you.

I think we got some BIG clues in 6.19, including the fact that Wes is contracted to annoy Angel whether souled or not, and Wes's words to Gunn about not wishing a contract like his on his best friend or his worst enemy. Angel's team also noted repeatedly that Wes is doing a craptastic job of pestering Angel. And I am pretty sure that Illyria's move from the "death" of the basement to the "life" of the roof is symbolic.

I can't even express how awesome I think it is that they made Wes the big bad this season! It ties in with the rest of the series so perfectly, and it gives Wes a lot of 'screen' time! However, I can't imagine that Wes has gone evil without a good reason, so I think we will see that his purpose is actually something greater. Maybe similar to what Angel was doing at the end of season 5. I just keep going back to Angel's very words about Wes from season 5 Lineage, "[Wes is] the guy who makes all the hard decisions, even if [he has] to make them alone." I think that Wes is doing this for Angel, ultimately. I know my vision may be clouded by my Wes/Angel slash-colored glassed, but even in canon there was a strong platonic love between them. I can see Wes going to the ends of hell and earth for the vampire that he believes in. Maybe he is either trying to release Angel from HIS contract, or to earn him the Shanshu. Or, dare I even suggest, to help him save his soul.

What does anyone else think?,

I agree. There's got to be some grander plan behind Wes's actions. Yes, I've got my Wes/Angel slash-colored glasses on, as well :P Hee hee. I love how you said that :) But that doesn't change the fact that Wes's going evil wouldn't have made him go stupid. If this was all him trying to really be a Big Bad...he would do so much better at it. Scarily better, I imagine.

And, yes, it is awesome that Wes got to be bad this season :D He is so cool when he's evil. I love how the W&H peons fall all over themselves not to displease him. I would pay good money to have seen this aspect of the A:NL storyline play out on television.

LOL! Those alter-egos! Always popping up when you aren't expecting it!

You are so right about Wes not becoming stupid just because he is evil! I never thought about it quite like that, but that's dead-on. He is definitely up to something... but what!! I can't wait to find out. I am having faith that it's something to do with actually helping my favorite vampire. (for the record, that's ANGEL)

Any ideas about Illyria's move to the roof top? Where does that mean her character is going? Is she finally catching on to the whole humanity thing?

I definitely believe Wesley is really trying to work against WRH to Angel's benefit. I hope he is. But Gunn!!!!! Gulp!

I know, omg Gunn!!! I can't believe the Wes we all know and love would really do try to kill Gunn... unless Gunn was getting tyo close to ruining whatever it is that Wes gave up his afterlife for. But even then...

I think that might tie in with Illyria's new world view somehow. Is she starting to value life? Is she going to bust out with some magic old-one powers and heal him?

I cannot believe that Wesley is evil through and through. I agree, he is up to something that he believes will be to the benefit of the greater good. Certainly he's prepared to kill for it, as well as putting himself back into a W&H contract. He's already proved he's willing to die in the name of fighting the good fight.

Slight down point is that what Wes *thinks* is essential for everyone else is not always what is actually the best thing to do. But, that aside, I think he means well.

Me and [info]princess_s were discussing this a while back, and she pointed out how what Wes *has* achieved so far is bringing AI back together. Gunn has rejoined. Connor is definitely on board. And now even Illyria seems to have finally moved away from Wes a little bit. Bar Wes, everyone is present and correct.

I think Wes only went for Gunn because Gunn was about to destroy Wes' plan. I *need* to know what was in that Appendix A, what were the conditions, what has Wolfram and Hart promised Wesley that he's so desperate to protect.

I am wondering about the Shanshu and the whole issue of Angel still, technically, being a member of the Circle of the Black Thorn.

I think you and [info]princess_s are onto something about Wes reunifying AI. I can't think of what his goal is, though, unless it goes back into Angel's needing people to keep him from turning evil. That would tie into either the black thorn theory, or the Shanshu theory.

I definitely think Gunn was way too close to something... most likely whatever was in Appendix A. Had Gunn gotten Wes fired, would that have voided Appendix A?

I wonder if it was just Wes's way to be reinacting Angelus's crimes, or if that was a clue of some kind?

Yep, something is in Appendix A that Wes is willing to kill for. If Wes' contract had been voided, either something would have been taken back or something promised to him would have become unattainable. I'm also wondering if Lilah is going to re-enter the picture at some point in the future; I'm guessing that she is the one who met Wes when he woke up in the afterlife.

As for why Wes copied Angelus' actions, hmm. At the time I saw it simply as the easiest way Wes could be evil without having to come up with new ideas for himself, plus it something guaranteed to bug Angel. But than again, this is Wes, and he tends not to pick something just because it's easy. THere may well be another reason.. *ponders*
