N.E.W.T.s will be rescheduled for 31 July and 1 August. If you are unable to provide your own methods of transportation to Hogwarts at that time, the Hogwarts Express will be running at half nine in the morning.

O.W.L.s will be rescheduled for 21 and 22 August. I apologise for the late date; however, it is more imperative that the seventh years are able to take their N.E.W.T.s so that they may begin looking for employment.

Finally, after careful deliberation, I have decided to close this journal project when the term ends.

I know that some of you will be against this decision and that some of you will be more than supportive. This was not a decision that I made lightly. There were many factors in this decision.

This project was an idea of Headmaster Dumbledore's. It is not certain whether or not the headmaster will ever fully recover. There are still several Death Eaters on the loose. One of our most beloved professors has given his life in protecting our students, and two others nearly did the same.

At this point in time, I believe that it would be for the best to end this project. I do not have the time to manage it, nor do any of the other professors. Frankly, it no longer seems necessary. I believe that human relationships are far more important.

When the students embark the Hogwarts Express at half one to finish their term, these journals will be sealed forever.

mood : enraged

I've finished my breakfast, I've packed up my last Hogwarts uniform.

At last the time has finally come to say goodbye to Hogwarts, or at least it has for those of us in the seventh year, and that's the only year I particularly care about anyway. It's odd, actually, because I still feel as though we'll be returning next term. Clearly, I've been brainwashed and this will take some getting over.

I thought that I ought to make a final statement to all of you, and by 'all of you' I mean those of you who didn't make the list I recently assembled. I would go on at length about how terribly I'm going to miss you all, but it's not polite to lie. Of course, I could also tell all of you exactly what I think of you, since it's likely I won't have to look at most of your gaping maws ever again, but I don't feel as though I have the time to do so. You'll be glad to know that I don't intend to fill this journal entry with individual remarks about the rest of you.

Instead, I'd simply like to say:

I AM STILL BETTER THAN YOU.

For the benefit for those of you who were unable to attend this evening's Leaving Feast due to your own injuries or the injuries of others, I will re-post the information here that I shared last evening.

The man who, the evening of Friday last, requested that all students turn in their wands, was not the headmaster. It pains me to say this, please understand. There is absolutely no apology that I can give you for what was ultimately a fatal error on my part. Had I been more vigilant, I would perhaps have noticed that the man posing as Professor Dumbledore was a fraud. I did not, however, and it is too late to turn back time.

Those of you in your seventh year of History of Magic may be familiar with Pellnor Wilkes. For those of you who are not, I will explain. Pellnor Wilkes was a Death Eater during You-Know-Who's reign in the late nineteen-seventies and very early nineteen-eighties. For many years he was believed to be dead at the hands of Aurors. Unfortunately, the Ministry of Magic was unaware of the fact that Wilkes was a Metamorphmagus. A Metamorphmagus, for those of you who are unaware, is a witch or wizard who can change their physical form entirely.

Thanks to the efforts of some very dedicated Unspeakables, we were able to determine that the man who was killed in 1980 was not, in fact, Pellnor Wilkes, but a wizard called Clyde Bones, whose form Wilkes had been taking for years. Bones, rest his soul, appears to have been an innocent bystander. Aurors were under the impression that Bones's appearance was Wilkes's actual one, we have been told.

For the past eighteen years, Pellnor Wilkes has been in hiding in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts department at the Ministry under the name Lowell Perkins. There is no such person as Lowell Perkins. This appears to be an assumed name, an identity created simply for Wilkes to hide within the Ministry.

Late in the hours of Sunday evening, as the Aurors and I were at our wits' end, it was Potter who came to me with the suggestion that I examine the Death Eater trials in Professor Dumbledore's pensieve. Please understand that under normal circumstances, it would be considered highly unethical to examine another man's pensieve (and Potter, you are forgiven for doing so years ago), but given the situation it seemed that there was little choice. It was very lucky indeed that I did this. When I reached the headmaster's office and examined his pensieve, the pensieve had ceased moving. The Aurors, fortunately, were able to unlock the pensieve, and I was able to examine the headmaster's memory of Wilkes's trial several times, and this is how I discovered that Wilkes was taking the form of Clyde Bones. I noticed that Wilkes's ear changed shape once, and this was the proof that we needed to confirm that Wilkes was a Metamorphmagus.

Following his trial, Wilkes fled from the Wizengamot. Since the headmaster was not present for these events, they are not entirely clear, but reports from 1980 state that Wilkes was captured and killed by Aurors outside of Lode Gaffle. It is now painfully evident that the man killed was not Wilkes and was, in fact, Clyde Bones, whose home was in Lode Gaffle. Bones was previously assumed missing.

Luckiest of all, this is where I found Headmaster Dumbledore: wandering within his own memories repeatedly. The pensieve was locked to prevent his escape, and had I not broken my own ethics to examine his memories myself, he would likely still be there.

It seemed that he was stuck upon the memory of last Friday afternoon, during his meeting with the Head Boy. I suppose that you all would like to know about the Head Boy. It makes me so angry that I can scarcely say his name. Severus and myself both voted against him, but Albus seemed to feel that he had changed his ways. Thus, he became the Head Boy, and thanks to the pensieve I was able to discover that it was the Head Boy who trapped Albus within his own pensieve.

The Head Boy has been taken to the Ministry of Magic for questioning. Macmillan, if you could please make an appointment with your brother to come to the Ministry over this matter, it would be extremely helpful.

We can confirm that it was, indeed, Wilkes who was seen outside of Hogwarts last Wednesday, though the form he took was that of Clyde Bones and not, in fact, Wilkes's actual appearance. One silver lining in this cloud is that we have discovered that Wilkes was killed in the attack on Wednesday. Thanks to the Unspeakables once again, we were able to discover that one of the unidentified bodies among the Death Eaters was Pellnor Wilkes in his true form.

It is believed that it was Wilkes, in the guise of Perkins, who let Peter Pettigrew out of Azkaban.

There are many 'what ifs' in this situation, not least of which involves Amelia Bones, the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement since 1981. Ms Bones has dedicated her life to this for nearly twenty years, and it is unfortunate to think that she became involved in it due to her brother's disappearance. I wish to strongly remind everyone that there is not a single person in this castle who should fault themselves for our losses.

Dwelling upon the past and your own memories is a very dangerous business indeed. The headmaster is extremely confused, but the best mental Healers at St Mungo's are working on him around the clock.

All students must check their wands for any spells or jinxes immediately. If fifth, sixth and seventh years could please assist the younger students in doing this, it would be greatly appreciated. All professors, Aurors and Unspeakables will be available for help in this matter.

I know some people that go to school here believe in God. I don't know anything about that and I don't know if I believe there could be a God at all. I don't understand it, especially now. But I just wanted to ask people who pray if they could pray for Luna Lovegood. I know probably everyone's already busy praying for someone else but a lot of people woke up today and Luna didn't, she's not waking up at all, even though Madam Pomfrey healed her head Luna isn't waking up. I read poetry to her today 'cos you're supposed to talk to people who won't wake up, right? But she didn't wake up or even move. Maybe nobody but me cares if she does but I do care so much for her, I don't want her to go. I've had so many people taken from me by him, please, I don't want another one. Someone please pray for Luna.

Thank you,

Still no news about Dumbledore. Professor McGonagall looks more tight-lipped than I've ever seen her.

I finally managed to sleep a little last night, thanks to that sedative. I think if I'm smart, I'll take another dose tonight. It's been so dreadfully quiet all day. Eating has been haphazard for everyone, although they've had tables of sandwiches set up in all the common rooms. Nobody seems to have much of an appetite. I understand most people have been either in the library or walking rather aimlessly around the grounds. The weather, at least, has been rather fine. Perfect for Quidditch, although no one, of course, would dream of playing.

I spent the morning in one of the greenhouses harvesting and grinding up the blood root and blood vine that St. Mungo's had sent in by owl shipment. Madam Pomfrey's supply had been totally exhausted by midnight the night after the attack. My hands and shoulders ache from all that work grinding, and my fingers stink from that putrid-smelling sap, but I don't mind at all, none of us do, because it's working. No further deaths since yesterday morning, which I know is more than they'd dared hoped for: they were dreadfully worried for Orla Quirke and Marley Cedar in particular. Seamus is certain we've turned the corner for sure now. Families have claimed over half the bodies in the Classroom 11 morgue, so there are only six or seven students' bodies left there now.

I'm not sure if they've taken Remus away yet, and I didn't like to ask. Haven't seen Harry or Sirius all day.

They are allowing a few visitors in to the wards, but the St. Mungo's staffers sent by the Ministry have insisted on taking over tending the injured who are still recuperating--reasoning, I guess, that even though there are students eager to help, we shouldn't be subjected to the trauma of seeing all those healing injuries. (As if we hadn't our fill of trauma the first fifteen minutes after those thestrals burst through the ceiling.) Seamus, of course, simply acts as if this stricture doesn't apply to him, and I guess it doesn't. Dean must have bullied him into coming away from the ward to eat sometime during the morning, though, but otherwise he was back and working tirelessly all afternoon.

One of the healers that I know well did ask me specially to sit with the students with the worst of the Cruciatus injuries, the most agitated ones. (She's the one that recommended me for that job with the pharmacology department at St. Mungo's.) They know I have a knacky sort of way of talking to Cruciatus patients that soothes them, calms them down. (Lots of experience, I guess.) I sat and talked to with Prunella Palushock the longest, and she did seem to be resting easier by nightfall.

It's rather too soon to tell whether any of those Cruciatus injuries will be permanent.

I hope not.

There's other things I've been thinking about, but I'm not ready to talk about them yet. So that's all for now.

A number of facts that were previously overlooked have come into question again, and we at the Ministry of Magic must insist that everyone in the wizarding world remain safely indoors for now. We have sent out a number of Aurors to begin investigation at Lowell Perkins's home and will alert the world when any news is discovered.

To those who lost loved ones in the attack on Hogwarts, I wish to extend my deepest sympathies.

Students, Professor Sinistra and I have opened the hospital wing to visitors. We must ask that you please behave in an orderly fashion and recognise that three hundred of you are not going to be able to get into the wing at one time. There will be a cutoff of no more than 14 people in the room at once, and we must ask that those of you who are waiting in line outside please wait quietly. I must also request that you do not pester Poppy Pomfrey as she has been working tirelessly, and while none of us have slept Poppy has had the most strenuous and incredible burden of any of the teachers here. If you have questions about the condition of the students you may ask me or Sinistra.

Slytherin House, you will all be given updates as to the status of Professor Snape's condition as we learn more. By now you should all have had your wands returned to you and anyone who does not needs to see me immediately. Mr Malfoy, I have your three wands here with me in the hospital wing and will give them to you and Miss Bulstrode when you return.

Narcissa, I don't know if you will be reading this or if you have gone home, but you and your son are more than welcome to use my quarters as long as you need to.

I would like to write more about the events of yesterday but I see much has been said already and I have to return quickly to the ward.

On the 6th cyclical day of the 6th month of the 6th year, it happened.

Requiescat in pace, Remus, Pansy, Lisa, Mandy.

Goodnight, Lucius.

I have been a teacher now for nearly thirty years, and in all that time I have never seen Hogwarts hold the look of sweeping agony that it did last night.

Please note that this should serve only as a listing of those who are injured and still under treatment in one of the three hospital wards that have been set up on the Ground and First Floors of Hogwarts School. We have determined that as all relatives of the dead have been notified, it would be inappropriate to list them here. The list of those treated and released is far too long to place here. Also note that none of the injured have been relocated to St. Mungo's; rather, in a sense, St. Mungo's has been relocated to Hogwarts School. Parents, if you have inquiries that are not answered by this post please direct your owls to Professor McGonagall here at Hogwart's School and not to the mediwizards here or at St. Mungo's. Thank you.

With very few exceptions, we are not allowing visitors until 8am tomorrow, so please, go back to your common rooms or the library. If you wish to be of assistance, please report to your head of house, or Professor Vector, for further instructions.

blondenarcissa
mood : crushed

It seems like forever and a day that the owl came and at the same time it seems as though I just found out a moment ago. My Lucius is dead. My Lucius is dead and my son is without a father and I am a widow. It feels so very strange to type those words. There is a tightness in my throat that is unfamiliar and it aches but not nearly as much as my heart aches. It aches not so much as for me but for my Draco and my Lucius.

Lucius and I had a number of disagreements the past few years. At times we would take to having a holiday from one another so that we could concentrate on our own needs as individuals in order to be better for us when Fate would decree that it was time for us to come together again. At times when we would have these holidays, I would miss him terribly and often curse his name for making me so very much. And it would be all right that I would curse his name because I knew that, in the end, we would come together again and be stronger together.

This will not be the case any longer. I will miss him terribly and curse his name but we will never come together again and I fear I will weaken terribly. I already am. I can feel it in my very bones.

But right now I cannot afford to be weak. I have a son for whom I must be strong. He needs me now more than he ever did and I hope to Merlin that I will be what he needs, that I will be enough.

I arrived here at Hogwarts earlier to identify Lucius' body. Apparently, from what the Ministry representative told me, Draco had requested to see him but he was denied that. I am glad that he was, as I wanted to be the one to first see Lucius and make sure that his-- to make sure that he was somewhat presentable and would not upset Draco further than he already is.

When I found Draco, he was seated next to Miss Bulstrode in the hospital wing, looking over poor Pansy Parkinson's body. I almost did not want to disturb him but I must say that I am glad that I did. I have never in my life needed to feel my son's arms around me more than I did just then. I think he felt the same about me. We did not speak for the longest time but rather just let our emotions be. I think I ruined his shirt and he mine but I do not care. We can always have new shirts. We can never have our family again.

I took him in to see Lucius later. I hope I didn't hurt him; I was holding his hand so very tight. I only let go when he indicated that he wanted to get closer to his father. He reached out and pressed a finger against Lucius' cheek and I cannot recall much after that as I began to cry once more.

Hilda offered me a place in her quarters for the evening and I am grateful for her thoughtfulness. I do not wish to be away from Draco, not now. I believe Hilda may be staying with Professor Wiglorn tonight; I am not sure. She gave me use of her quarters and Draco will stay here with me tonight.

Tonight, I just want to hold my little boy until he falls asleep.

I just wanted to post so they could pass on word to my family I'm all right. I haven't slept. I've been with the infirmary crew, preparing the plants they're using to treat blood loss. My hands are sore; I've been working the mortar and pestle all day.

I got some scalp cuts when the glass fell, and they bled like anything so I had blood sheeting down my ears and neck. It looked a lot worse than it was. Head wounds always bleed a lot, and they were actually pretty shallow and easy to close when it was all over. It's strange; I only remember the attack in bits and pieces, like a series of disjointed photographs, frozen like Muggle ones. Seamus says that's shock. He's in shock, too, but he's still working with no signs of stopping. None of us want to stop.

I remember being trapped underneath one of the tables. I was desperate for my wand. The noise was unbelievable, all the screams and breaking glass and curse blasts. Me and Dean were arguing furiously because we could see one of the suits of armour holding a mace over to the side, and we wanted that mace so bad, we thought it might even the odds. And he wanted to make the run for it, but I pulled him back, and said I should go instead, and then two more Deatheaters landed between us and the suit and Dean swore a blue streak because that hope was gone.

Then my memory starts breaking up, and I'm not clear on the order that things happened. Time got oddly stretched, and there was a roaring in my ears. I don't remember seeing Lisa die, but I remember Hermione screaming in my ear and tipping the table and charging the Deatheaters with it, and the thumps and grunts as they went down. I saw the stunned look on Sirius Black's face. It must have been when Remus jumped in front of Lucius Malfoy's wand, but I don't remember seeing him fall. I only saw the look of total disbelief in Sirius' face.

Then it was a blur for a while. They told me that the spell that killed Voldemort knocked everyone out around him for a while. The next thing I remember was three or four of us all kneeling over Mandy Foster, the second year from Hufflepuff, trying to staunch the blood coming from her jugular with wadded up robes. It had been slit by falling glass. Seamus had grabbed a wand--I think it was Remus'--and was working on Christine Castlemaine, and I know Christine would have died if he hadn't been right there. Another group was working over Geoffrey Wood from Slytherin. I remember people whipping off their ties and making tourniquets with table knives. Madam Pomfrey couldn't help; she was so busy trying to save Luna Lovegood.

But we couldn't save Mandy. If her parents ask to talk to me about it, I will, but I hope that I can let them know right away that there wasn't time enough for her to get really scared. It happened so fast. We just couldn't stop it. She got icy cold, and then we could see she was getting sleepy, and she just drifted off. And they should let them know that her sister Patricia was there beside her, too, so at least she had some family with her. Please let them know we didn't give up on her. We kept trying and trying, even after Dean felt her pulse and said she was gone.

Seamus still has Remus' wand, I think, or at least he did when I last saw him. He's been clutching it all day, even while he's been using his own. I think he wants to give it back to Sirius personally.

Oh yeah, and I remember hearing at some point the booming sound from the benches that they were using to try to ram the doors to the Great Hall open again. Then nothing. That's the last thing I remember up until, I guess, until I was up in the hospital wing, several hours later, working to distribute the blood treatments in triage.

I've never been so glad to see my wand back again.

There will be other stuff later on, I know, but the only other thing I guess I want to say is I never thought I would ever be so sorry for Draco Malfoy. I can't imagine how he must feel, knowing that his father was involved, murdering children, including some from his own house.

I have to get back to the infirmary.

Poppy gave me some kind of tea so I'm not shaking like I was before.

I want you all to know how Remus died. He died saving my life. He saved Harry's life too. Lucius Malfoy is dead. Remus killed him. Malfoy tried to curse Harry, but Remus saw it and got out his walking-stick that I had got him on our anniversary. It had a sword in it because I thought it was cool. We both saw Lucius pull his wand out of his cane and go after Harry, and Remus got there first because I was Padfoot and I was fighting Wormtail. I bit off his tail before he got away. Then Remus pulled his sword out and he ran Lucius through with it. He got him where his heart would have been. He stood over him and made sure it went through all the way. I've never seen Remus look like that. He said he was keeping his promise and that this was for James and Lily and Harry and him and me and Alice and Frank and Neville and the Weasleys and Snape and everyone that this evil had ever touched. Then he laughed but he was crying too because Remus never wanted to kill people even the ones who deserved it. Then I told Lucius he deserved it. I stood over him and I spit on him and told him to give the Devil my regards. I shouldn't have done that. Lucius was dying but he wasn't dead yet and all of a sudden he had his wand in his hand again. He pointed it at me. Then all I saw was Remus and then I heard Lucius say the words and there was green light and then Remus fell. I carried him out. I couldn't help Harry anymore so I helped Remus even though he was dead because he still needed help. I carried him to the hospital wing and I sat with him and I told him some things I thought he needed to know. I should have said them all sooner but we thought we had more later than we did. It should have been me but Remus saved me. He was always saving me but I don't think he ever knew it. James said Remus was always the bravest one of us by just getting up every morning and he was right.

He was always worried about living forever because he didn't want to outlive us.

I wanted you all to know what happened. Harry's awake now. I told him about Remus and he said we have to go Amsterdam like we were going to. He kept saying it over and over that we have to go to the Jordaan in Amsterdam and then he said he wanted to see him and then he started to cry and I don't think I can write in here anymore right now

Just so mum's not going completely mental, Ginny told me to post something here. We're both alright, except I've no idea where my hand has crawled to, so if anyone's seen it DON'T STEP ON IT, WILL YOU?? Everything's a bit weird and messed up right now but we're fine. I was just at the hospital wing to see Hermione and Harry, she's okay and Harry's awake now, so all's good. Malfoy and Bulstrode were there again, well I don't think they've left at all for days, I saw them when I walked by the bed with the curtains drawn when I was leaving. They're sitting next to her for ages, well I don't know if I should be saying this but Parkinson's dead. I said hello to Malfoy but they don't seem to realise I was there. Good thing though, I mean, I sort of don't really know what to say to them. It's a bit odd seeing them looking like that, you know, so uh yeah, I'm going to go back and check on Harry again but we're all okay and that's all I guess.
